The Book of the Enemy was a book which erased its readers from history, turning them into fictional characters. Sherlock Holmes heard many rumours of the Book during his investigations, coming to the conclusion that its purpose was to shape the Spiral Politic to be as the Enemy wanted it.

One chapter of the Book was entitled "Cobweb and Ivory". It documented the Original Mammoths and their painted warriors. (PROSE: White Canvas)

History

In the 1910s, the Book was kept in the library of the British Museum. (PROSE: The Book of the Enemy)

A copy of the Book was also kept in the Plume Coteries' Library, whose Bookkeepers knew it was "a fairly dangerous book, as far as books go".

Additionally, versions of the Book existed across the 10,000 Dawns (PROSE: White Canvas) as part of a series of books describing the war as fiction. (PROSE: Rachel Survived) When the Original Mammoths, (PROSE: White Canvas) one form of the Enemy, (PROSE: Cobweb and Ivory) sent their painted warriors to attack the 10,000 Dawns, they stole every copy of the Book from the Dawns to cover their tracks. However, Lady Aesculapius noticed that they had done so, allowing her, Graelyn Scythes and Archimedes Von Ahnerabe to travel to the Plume Coteries' Library to obtain a copy and thereby learn about their foes. Finding it with the help of Coloth and Marissa, they were able to read it and learn how to get to the Mammoths' alter-time realm. (PROSE: White Canvas)
