Hyperion and Galvin were two members of the Great Assimilation who were disgraced for minor misbehaviour. They sought to win back favour by spying on the Arbiter of Eternity, the Firmament's leader. Through this observation, they learned of the Arbiter of Knives's mission to travel from the 10,000 Dawns to the Totality to steal the Book of Books and tried to get it first. After the Strid got it before anyone and asked the Arbiter and the Assimilation agents to each make a bid on behalf of their respective organisations, the Assimilation operatives offered the Strid a planet within the Assimilation, but also a prominent place in the Assimilation's interdimensional military, with a seat at the decision-making table. Ultimately, however, this became moot when Rachel Edwards blackmailed the Strid into giving the book back to her, and the interdimensional interlopers into retreating.

In Why We Need This Book, a situational holographic play created by Archimedes Von Ahnerabe to summarise the situation for Rachel's sake, Hyperion was given the likeness of actor Matthew Broderick. (PROSE: Rachel Survived)
