In one of the parallel universes within the 10,000 Dawns, Graelyn Scythes's mother, with whom Graelyn Scythes still lived in Moscow as of 2471, was an abusive and controlling woman. She alternated between belittling Graelyn and shouting at her, no matter how well Graelyn did in school, and trying to make Graelyn feel bad for being a burden to her "poor, sick mother".
