The 122nd issue of Doctor Who Magazine had a cover date of March 1987. This was the last cover to show Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor (though sporting a beard) before it was made evident he had been dismissed from the role. It also was the first cover to display Bonnie Langford as Melanie Bush.

- Travelling Companions - Tegan Jovanka: in recent years, the tendency has been towards short-lived and less memorable companions. Tegan Jovanka, played by Janet Fielding, was a significant exception.
- Pennant Roberts Interview - Pennant Roberts was one of the most adept directors on Doctor Who. He came to the series in 1977, during the Tom Baker years, and stayed with the programme for 26 subsequent episodes. Richard Marson heard about Robert's time on Who, and his script that was never filmed.

- This issue, priced 85p (UK), featured a promotional shot featuring new companion Mel (Bonnie Langford) by Steve Cook.
- This issue's prose story by Stephen Moxon was the winning entry from the over 15's Category in a Short Story Competition. The prize was a custom made Sevans model Dalek and the signed artwork by artist John Ridgway.
