Black Daleks (German: Schwarze Dalek) (AUDIO: Daleks Among Us ^[+]Loading...["Daleks Among Us (audio story)"]) were senior ranking Daleks within the Dalek hierarchy and the most common rank to take up the role of Supreme Dalek or Supreme Controller, (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Chase, Mission to the Unknown, The Daleks' Master Plan, Resurrection of the Daleks, Remembrance of the Daleks) although neither of these titles were exclusive to their rank. (TV: Day of the Daleks, Planet of the Daleks, AUDIO: "Death to the Daleks!", Blood of the Daleks) There was a distinction made between a Black Dalek and a Supreme Dalek. Those that did not hold the title of Dalek Supreme were subservient to the existing Supreme Dalek. (AUDIO: Brotherhood of the Daleks, Daleks Among Us, Masters of Earth, COMIC: Fire and Brimstone) They outranked Silver or Grey Dalek drones, Blue Daleks and Red Daleks but were in turn outranked by Gold Daleks after their introduction, as well as the Dalek Emperor or the Dalek Prime. After the end of the Last Great Time War, the Dalek race was crippled and facing extinction. (TV: Dalek, The Parting of the Ways, The Day of the Doctor) With the exception of Dalek Sec, Black Daleks disappeared from the ranks of the Daleks altogether, serving no part in the New Dalek Empire (TV: The Stolen Earth/Journey's End) or the early stages of the New Dalek Paradigm. (TV: Victory of the Daleks, The Pandorica Opens, COMIC: The Only Good Dalek, GAME: City of the Daleks, Evacuation Earth, Return to Earth, The Eternity Clock) By the time of the formation of the Dalek Parliament, Black Daleks were eventually reintroduced but they were subservient to the blue Strategist, orange Scientist, yellow Eternal, white Supreme and red drone Dalek officers. History

Early history

The Black Dalek of Skaro (TV: Dr. Who and the Daleks)

In the account of the Thal-Dalek battle of history version B, a Black Dalek served as the Dalek Leader of the Dalek City on Skaro. (TV: Dr. Who and the Daleks; PROSE: Dalek Survival Guide)

According to one account, an early Black Dalek was the Dalek Supreme who ruled the Dalek City. The "original Dalek leader", it normally resided in a nutrient tank but was able to transfer itself into an entirely black version of a Dalek War Machine casing if it needed mobility. The Supreme donned its armour to lead an attack on the Thal City but was seemingly destroyed when Ian Chesterton overloaded the power feeds to the Dalek City. (AUDIO: Return to Skaro)

Black Dalek Leader

The Black Dalek confronts Zeg. COMIC: Duel of the Daleks)

By another account, the first Black Dalek was the Black Dalek Leader, (COMIC: Plague of Death) the Dalek Emperor's immediate subordinate. It was mostly referred to simply as the Black Dalek, (COMIC: Duel of the Daleks) and was also known as the Dalek Supreme. (PROSE: The History of the Daleks) It was summoned by the Emperor to deal with Zeg after he challenged the Emperor's authority. The Black Dalek's weapon was unable to penetrate Zeg's metalert casing. (COMIC: Duel of the Daleks)

When the Daleks developed space travel, the Emperor led an invasion force off Skaro to conquer other planets, (COMIC: The Amaryll Challenge) leaving the Black Dalek in charge of the Dalek City. When the Daleks were threatened by the outbreak of a rust plague, the Black Dalek was infected in such a way that it could be used as a vessel to transmit the plague to other Daleks. The Emperor returned to Skaro to deal with the situation and found the Black Dalek rusting away, resigned to its fate. The Emperor claimed the Black Dalek was too valuable to lose and sent it to the recasting furnace to be repaired. (COMIC: Plague of Death)

Later, after its recovery, the Black Dalek led a force of Daleks to the planet Phryne in search of new technologies as war with the Mechanoids became evermore certain. They successfully occupied the planet. (COMIC: The Archives of Phryne)

The Emperor called a meeting with the Black Dalek and a Red Dalek when the presence of the One in a Million Dalek threatened to cause a civil war. (COMIC: Shadow of Humanity)

After the Daleks destroyed the human-made spaceship, the Starmaker, which had to land on Skaro, the Black Dalek Leader reported to the Emperor that they had recovered a piece of paper revealing the existence and location of Earth. The Daleks thus started planning to conquer the planet. (COMIC: The Road to Conflict)

Expansion of the Dalek Empire

By the 22nd century, more Black Daleks existed to take up leadership roles in the Dalek expansion. The invasion of Earth in that century was commanded by the Black Dalek Leader, with the title of Supreme Controller. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth, PROSE: The History of the Daleks) However, other subordinate Black Daleks also participated in the invasion. In 2163, one Black Dalek interrogated the Sixth Doctor before it was killed by the Daleks' Varga plant virus. (AUDIO: Masters of Earth)

In the 2150 Dalek invasion of Earth which took place in the version of history "B", a Black Mine Controller served under the Gold Chief Dalek in the Dalek Invasion Force. (PROSE: Dalek Survival Guide, TV: Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.) The Black Dalek, the Red Saucer-Pilot and two Robomen once patrolled a street of the ruined London, narrowly missing the presence of an older Susan in TARDIS, which they mistook for a simple police box. (HOMEVID: Untitled 1)

Another Black Dalek was in charge of the research facility DA-17 where the Daleks had been experimenting with a matter transmuter, which survived the invasion. They attempted a reprise of the invasion in 2199 and planned to conquer England but the Eighth Doctor stopped them, blowing up the facility. (PROSE: Legacy of the Daleks)

After the Daleks were rendered inactive on Skaro due to the power to the City being cut off, a Black Dalek was among a number of Daleks reactivated by Bob Slater who betrayed his expedition. The Daleks were deactivated once more but not before the Black Dalek warned the remaining members of the expedition that full power would one day be restored and the Daleks would return. A Black Dalek acted as Dalek Supreme during the attempted invasion of Earth in 2223, leading a single Dalek saucer to London to establish a base. It clashed frequently with the Dalek Litigator, who was using the invasion to hunt down the Bruce Master, and wasted resources sending Daleks to fight the Master, who massacred them. It was furious that the Litigator contacted the Dalek Parliament who ordered the invasion be abandoned. The Master came to confront the Daleks at the saucer and tortured the Supreme, eventually killing it after it interrupted him. (AUDIO: Vengeance)

After the failure of the invasion, the Daleks identified the Doctor and the Black Dalek Leader, under orders from the Dalek Prime, (PROSE: The Chase) ordered an assassination squad to pursue his TARDIS in a Dalek time machine. The squad failed. (TV: The Chase) The Black Dalek Leader later led an attack on the rebuilt Mechanoid City on Mechanus against the Mechanoids and Gubbage Cones to avenge the failure of the mission. The attack was successful and the city was destroyed but a surviving Mechanoid swore revenge. (COMIC: The World That Waits)

The Black Dalek addresses the Galactic Council. (TV: The Daleks' Master Plan)

The same Black Dalek that originally organised the assassination mission, acting as a Supreme Dalek, oversaw the Dalek operations on planet Kembel in the year 4000. It was wiped out when the Doctor hijacked the Time Destructor. (TV: Mission to the Unknown/The Dalek's Master Plan) This was a massive blow for the Dalek Empire as the Dalek Prime considered both the fleet and the Black Dalek irreplaceable. (PROSE: The Mutation of Time)

In an alternate timeline in which the Time Destructor was successfully developed, a Black Dalek acted as the Dalek Supreme when the Daleks invaded the Third Galaxy and attempted to enslave the population of Urbinia. (AUDIO: Daughter of the Gods)

During the Dalek Civil War which ended the Great War, Black Daleks fought alongside the Emperor's guards to put down the rebelling humanised Daleks threatening the Emperor. (PROSE: The Evil of the Daleks, TV: The Evil of the Daleks) They successfully crushed the rebellion despite the devastation it caused. (COMIC: Bringer of Darkness, Children of the Revolution) In the aftermath, Black Daleks became outranked by the introduction of Gold Daleks into the Dalek hierarchy. (TV: Day of the Daleks, Frontier in Space, PROSE: War of the Daleks) A Gold Dalek acted as the Supreme Dalek in an alternate timeline in which the Daleks reconquered 22nd century Earth but according to one account, a Black Dalek was also present, acting as the Gold Dalek's second-in-command. The plan failed when Shura blew up Austerly House with a Dalekanium bomb as the Daleks invaded, saving the Second World Peace Conference. (PROSE: Day of the Daleks)

A gold-and-black Dalek Supreme of the Supreme Council and second-in-command to the Dalek Prime oversaw the Spiridon campaign in 2540. (TV: Planet of the Daleks, PROSE: Doctor Who and the Planet of the Daleks) The Dalek Survival Guide defined this casing model as a Black Dalek with a gold dome, shoulder slats and sense globes. (PROSE: Dalek Survival Guide) By one account, this Supreme was none other than the original Black Dalek Leader. (PROSE: The History of the Daleks)

Under the watch of the Golden Emperor, a Black Dalek was present on Skaro along with the Red Dalek, a red-domed Dalek and a force of grey Daleks as the TARDIS, carrying the Fifth Doctor, was brought to the planet via a time corridor in an attempt to exterminate their nemesis once and for all. The Imperial-Renegade Dalek Civil War

At the beginning of the civil war between the Imperial Daleks and the Renegade Daleks, the Black Supreme Dalek led the expedition to find Davros and have him develop a cure for the Movellan virus. The Supreme Dalek planned to use a duplicate of the Fifth Doctor and his companions to send to Gallifrey and assassinate the High Council of the Time Lords. Stien, a rogue Dalek duplicate, set the space station to self-destruct, (TV: Resurrection of the Daleks) but the Black Dalek survived and went on leading the Renegades until the Shoreditch Incident. It was the last remaining Dalek of the incident and killed itself after the Seventh Doctor convinced it that it had no purpose. (TV: Remembrance of the Daleks)

Black Daleks led Dalek assault forces or operations, including the invasion of Gallifrey, (AUDIO: The Apocalypse Element) capturing the Sixth Doctor to prevent Davros from building the Juggernauts, (AUDIO: The Juggernauts) and the attack on Bliss. Black Daleks could self-destruct with enough power to destroy a base. (AUDIO: Enemy of the Daleks)

A Black Dalek took command of an elite Dalek squad which part of the Emperor's Personal Guard was part of. It survived on Strellin along with other Daleks when their ship crash landed. (AUDIO: Order of the Daleks)

After the end of the Imperial-Renegade Dalek Civil War, forces within the Dalek Empire were divided on who to support - Davros or the Dalek Prime. Only the Gold Daleks remained fully loyal to the Dalek Prime while the Black Daleks, along with the Red Daleks, Blue Daleks and drone units, were split. The Dalek Prime organised for Davros to be placed on trial in hopes his supporters would reveal themselves and this proved successful as a Black Dalek attempted to assassinate the Dalek Prime before Davros could be executed. Davros' supporters were believed to have been destroyed in the ensuing battle. (PROSE: War of the Daleks)

A Black Dalek was present on the planet Azimuth. (AUDIO: Daleks Among Us)

In the 53rd century, a Black Dalek assisted the Supreme Dalek in leading the invasion of the New Earth System aboard the Dalek Hive. It was destroyed by impure Daleks. (COMIC: Fire and Brimstone)

The Time War and later history

As shown through officers like Dalek Sec, the Black Dalek rank remained in practice during the Great Time War (TV: Daleks in Manhattan)

During the Last Great Time War, Daleks with black casings served as officers, (AUDIO: Planet of the Ogrons, TV: Doomsday) such as serving as a military unit's commander, (TV: Evolution of the Daleks) but were distinct from the position of Supreme Daleks, with a Supreme instead residing within a type of specialised red casing (PROSE: Dalek Combat Training Manual) previously seen in the Second Dalek War (AUDIO: Out of Time) to distinguish them from Black Daleks. (PROSE: Dalek Combat Training Manual) One unique Black Dalek with a flashing red eyepiece was designated as the overseer. Its casing also had exceptionally short luminosity dischargers, an alternative manipulator arm and several other appendages attached to the weapons platform. (AUDIO: Planet of the Ogrons)

Dalek Sec served as the leader and commander of the Cult of Skaro. (TV: Daleks in Manhattan, Evolution of the Daleks) Black Daleks were among many ranks of Daleks and Skaro Degradations present at a temporary base on Moldox in the city of Andor. They were overcome in a prisoner revolt instigated by the War Doctor and Cinder. (PROSE: Engines of War) All Black Daleks were among countless Daleks destroyed in the final battle of the War when multiple incarnations of the Doctors moved Gallifrey into a pocket universe. The Dalek Fleet, firing on the planet from all directions, blasted itself into oblivion after its target disappeared. (TV: The Day of the Doctor)

When the Resurrected Dalek Empire reintroduced the bronze casings previously used in the Second Dalek War and the Last Great Time War, Black Daleks were also reintroduced as lower-ranking officers. Some Black Daleks dubbed insane by the Dalek Parliament were inmates of the Dalek Asylum. They were destroyed when the Parliament fired on the Asylum after the Eleventh Doctor shut down the planetary force field. (TV: Asylum of the Daleks)

One such Dalek oversaw the progression of the Dalek Project and was connected to Survey Ship Sigma before the ship's destruction in a battle of the First World War. The survival chamber survived and the Black Dalek was destroyed when the Eleventh Doctor overloaded the Dalek ship in 2017. (COMIC: The Dalek Project) Its position was very similar to that of the earlier Chief Strategist. (COMIC: The Only Good Dalek)

A pair of Black Daleks aboard the Starbane. (GAME: The Doctor and the Dalek)

Black Daleks, accompanied by Red Daleks, had occupied the Starbane when the Twelfth Doctor and Lumpy arrived with the intention of destroying the vessel along with the Orb of Fates. All Black Daleks were destroyed when Starbane exploded. (GAME: The Doctor and the Dalek)

Another Black Dalek was among the many variants of Daleks present in the rebuilt Dalek City on Skaro. Davros intended to turn these Daleks into Dalek/Time Lord hybrids. They were destroyed in an attack by regenerated decomposing Dalek mutants which destroyed the City. (TV: The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar)

A Black Dalek once chased the Twelfth Doctor through a metallic corridor and attempted to exterminate him. However, the Doctor used his sonic screwdriver to close sliding doors just as the Black Dalek was crossing a gateway. The two heavy metal doors thus held the confused Dalek in place like a vice, while the Doctor made his escape. (WC: A Hero like the Doctor)

Ace had a dream in which she was chased by a "huge black swastika-wearing Dalek". (PROSE: Timewyrm: Exodus)

In a possible future that the Eighth Doctor briefly saw, where "the Ninth Doctor" was not a "man with big ears" but instead a "listless-looking" man, (PROSE: The Tomorrow Windows) the Daleks assisted the Master in kidnapping the Ninth Doctor and his companion, Emma, and were led by a black Dalek with golden bumps. Upon seeing the Doctor sacrifice his life to save even his greatest enemies, the Black Dalek declared that the Daleks would become "good" in order to honour the fallen Time Lord. The Dalek then witnessed the birth of the Thirteenth Doctor. (TV: The Curse of Fatal Death)

Davros' chair, on which the Dalek design was partially based, was black with silver sense globes. (TV: Genesis of the Daleks)

Dalek saucer commanders which oversaw saucer operations during the 2150s Dalek invasion of Earth had a casing which alternated between black and silver. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth, COMIC: The Threat from Beneath)

The Dalek Emperor's guards and other elite guards had black domes and were even designated as Black Dalek Leaders during the Dalek Civil War. (TV: The Evil of the Daleks, The Parting of the Ways, PROSE: Prisoner of the Daleks, GAME: The Eternity Clock) One Imperial Guard Dalek whom served the Dalek Emperor in the Last Great Time War was distinguished by, in addition to the black dome, a black base unit with gold sense globes, whilst their weapons platforms remained bronze, (TV: The Parting of the Ways, PROSE: Dalek Combat Training Manual) appearing much like the earlier Silver-type Black Dalek casing. (TV: The Chase)

Grey Dalek drones had black globes, as did their Gold Dalek leaders, and also commonly had black solar slats during the Dalek-Movellan War and beyond. A half black, half gold Dalek arrived on Spiridon on the eve of the Second Dalek War and was believed by the Thals to be a member of the Supreme Council. (TV: Planet of the Daleks) A similar Dalek led the force which captured various Earth naval vessels and raided Sydney Harbour. (COMIC: *Sub Zero) Another such Dalek, the immediate subordinate to the Emperor, was part of a mission on Kar-Charrat to obtain information from the planet's Library. (AUDIO: The Genocide Machine)

During the Second Dalek War, Dalek X, the Dalek Inquisitor General subordinate to the Supreme Dalek, had a gunmetal black casing decorated with gold. (PROSE: Prisoner of the Daleks)

Makkith, a humanised Black Dalek, was present on the planet Kyrol. (COMIC: Children of the Revolution)

The Chief Dalek had a black dome. (COMIC: Return of the Daleks)

A Supreme Dalek commanded the invasion of Gallifrey. This Dalek had a bronze casing with black a dome and globes. (AUDIO: Extermination, Ascension)

A minority of bronze-type Daleks aboard the Dalek Emperor's flagship following the Last Great Time War had black base units with golden sense globes in addition to a black dome similar to that of the Emperor's Personal Guard. (TV: The Parting of the Ways)

Dalek Sec had a completely black casing. (TV: Doomsday)

Dalek Sec, originally the bronze Dalek commander of the Seventh Incursion Squad received a distinctive solid black metalert casing, when the Emperor promoted him to leader of the Cult of Skaro prior to his evolution into a Human-Dalek hybrid, after which he abandoned it. The Defence Drones, a human built variant of Dalek casing, were largely painted black. (TV: Revolution of the Daleks)

In the Unbound Universe, the Black Dalek was the leader of Davros' second batch of Daleks, though Davros noted that the Black Dalek was not meant to be a leader in the truest sense of the word, as the Daleks were designed to be equal to all of their kin, but a rather a central point for which the Daleks to base their psychology and society around. Before he abandoned Skaro, Davros often conversed with the first Black Dalek. By the time of the Quatch invasion of Skaro, the Fourteenth Black Dalek ruled the Dalek City. The Black Dalek was reprogrammed by Davros to be loyal to him and the Quatch, subsequently being destroyed when the Quatch mothership exploded. (AUDIO: Masters of War)

• Dapol, which produced a range of toys based on the classic series of Doctor Who, released several original black Dalek variants which did not appear on-screen.
  • W008-2 was black with a golden eyepiece, neck rings, slats, manipulator arm, gunstick and sense globes.
  • W008-CR was black with a pink dome, eyepiece, manipulator arm and gunstick, with a purple neck grille, slats and sense globes.
  • A "Millennium Dalek" (W008-M5) had a sparkly black body with a golden neck grille, slats and sense globes.
• The Dalek Battlepack, first released before the publication of Prisoner of the Daleks, includes a Dalek with black casing with gold slats and globes similar to Dalek X, the Dalek Inquisitor General.
• The "Dalek Patrol Ship" sets released in 2014 by Character Options included an exclusive 3.75-inch bronze "Dalek pilot" figurine bearing a black dome and alternating black "skirt" panels identical to the colour scheme of the Dalek saucer commander.
  • In addition, Character Options released a "Dalek security patrol ship". This "stealth" version included a Dalek pilot coloured predominantly black with a red dome and silver slats and sense globes.
• The Into the Dalek time zone and figure collection includes a Black Dalek figure along with a black hoverbout, even though Black Daleks were not a part of the episode. Like the revived series Black Daleks from Asylum of the Daleks, The Dalek Project, The Doctor and the Dalek and The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar, it is uniformly black, identical to Dalek Sec.

Invalid sources

• The Doctor Who Technical Manual (1983) makes the claim that the positions of Dalek Supreme and Black Dalek are a synonymous second-in-command to the Emperor Dalek, and that thus there was only ever one Black Supreme at any given point in Dalek history.
• The Universal Databank identifies Dalek Supreme as an alternative title for the Black Dalek warlords, with one being associated with the 2150s Dalek invasion of Earth and the Mechonoid Incident, another with the Spiridon Incident and Duplicate Incident, and yet another leading the Daleks in the Hand of Omega Incident. The Gold Dalek of the Time Paradox Incident is also identified as a warlord and suggested to be an "avatar" of the Black Dalek. It is claimed that both Black Daleks and Gold Daleks were below the Emperor Dalek's Dalek Council.
• The Eleventh Doctor Interactive Story introduces the Children of Davros, a Dalek faction rivalling the New Dalek Paradigm with ranks consisting of bronze Daleks led by a Black Dalek. They are depicted using archive footage of Dalek Sec and the Cult of Skaro from Daleks in Manhattan.

Role Playing Game

The Doctor Who Role Playing Game: The Daleks established a "Black Dalek" rank below the Dalek Supremes but above the Grey Daleks who themselves were above the Soldier Daleks.

The Black Daleks are the military leaders of the society. On a mission of sufficient size to warrant a Supreme, the Blacks take orders from him. Usually there is one Black for every 30 Daleks, which means that usually a Supreme will have at least two Blacks with him on a mission. On missions of a size not warranting a Supreme, usually of between 20 and 40 Daleks, a Black will be in charge. It receives its orders from the Supreme in charge of the zone it is assigned to. The Black will then be responsible for carrying out those orders, supplementing them as need be. Blacks are chosen in the same manner as Supremes, with past experience being the determining factor for the mission leader.'The Daleks

Imperial Dalek

• Whilst the position of an Imperial Supreme Dalek subordinate to the Emperor Davros was first introduced in The Curse of Davros, its image was visualised on the cover of Sullivan and Cross - AWOL, rendered by James Johnson.
  • As with previous work, Johnson once again released a closer look at the Black Dalek Supreme design featured on the cover, noting its origins from the Dapol line of action figures. Cover artist Caroline Tankersley also noted the design draws inspiration from the Black Dalek seen in The Curse of Fatal Death.

Once the Imperial Dalek faction was established, it became necessary to implement a Dalek Supreme to command operations, such as the Napoleon Stratagem - much to Davros's displeasure. To ensure his authority as Emperor remained unchallenged, Davros conditioned the mind of the Supreme to be totally obedient to his will, with the capacity to punish it painfully in the event of failure. Nevertheless, its main purpose is to serve the Dalek cause - and will exterminate all who oppose it.James Johnson

• Appearing as they did in The Doctor and the Dalek, Black Daleks feature in Doctor Who Game Maker.
• In Dalek Hack, the player has the option to turn a Dalek's casing black with gold livery, similar to Dalek X.
• In both Dr. Who and the Daleks, the remake of The Daleks which itself did not feature a Black Dalek, and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., the remake of The Dalek Invasion of Earth, a Black Dalek is present, first as leader and second as subordinate to the Gold Dalek.
• Black Daleks have featured much less prominently in revived series media than in classic series media. Dalek Sec and Dalek X were Black Daleks but they held special positions and had names, not typical of previous Black Daleks. It was not until Asylum of the Daleks in 2012 that another revived series Black Dalek was seen, albeit only briefly in the background of the Asylum as one of the episode's many Dalek cameos. The Dalek Project, released five days after the premier of Asylum, was the first story to feature a revived series Black Dalek in a traditional commanding role. 2014's Engines of War followed this up by including some Daleks with black casings, though only briefly and during the Time War, and The Doctor and the Dalek later showed multiple such Black Daleks present aboard the Starbane, while The Magician's Apprentice followed this trend by another Black Dalek serving as an officer in the Dalek City, being stationed at Dalek control as one of the the Supreme's right hand men.
• Both The Dalek Chronicles and Volume 2 of John Peel's novelisation of The Daleks' Master Plan imply that there was only one Black Dalek in existence for much of the Daleks' early history, although neither of them seem to factor in the Black Dalek from The Dalek Invasion of Earth. Masters of Earth later confirmed that more than one Black Dalek was involved in the Earth invasion, although the former stories could be referring to the Black Dalek Leader, the senior Black Dalek featured in The Dalek Chronicles.
• Black Daleks feature on the covers for the special edition DVD of Remembrance of the Daleks, the novelisation Mission to the Unknown, the audio dramas Daleks Among Us and Daughter of the Gods, and the Short Trips anthology Dalek Empire.
• Several Black Daleks appear within WC: Daleks invade Weston-super-Mare.
• The trailer for AUDIO: Master! depicts the Dalek Supreme in Vengeance, showing it in the modern Supreme casing first seen in TV: The Stolen Earth, but with a black and silver colouration instead of red and gold.
• James Johnson rendered a Time War-era Dalek Commander model which was featured on the cover of Gallifrey: War Room 1: Allegiance, sporting a black and silver livery likened to the earlier Battle Computer unit seen in the Shoreditch Incident, which was replaced by the Commander. Ahead of release, Johnson released a closer look at his designs, also clarifying that the accompanying text wasn't in any way official, and that he added it "just for fun".
• James Johnson's "headcanon" for the bronze Dalek Pilot design he rendered for the cover of What Lies Inside? stated that their battle-shell was infused with Black Metalert to withstand excess heat and space fatigue.
• The bronze Daleks have notably been seen with a total of no less than seven distinct Black Dalek models: the black-domed Imperial Guard Daleks, the mostly black Imperial Guard Dalek with bronze middle section, the black Dalek Inquisitor General with gold slats and sense globes, the all-black Dalek Sec-type, the black and silver Dalek Supreme, the black and silver Dalek Commander and the Dalek Pilot.
