The Seventh Doctor and Ace revisit the Tribe of Gum to see how they have progressed only to find that nothing has changed.

- The Doctor explains to Ace that at times he feels it's nice to return to the scenes of his earlier adventures to find out the long-term effect of his intervention.
- The Doctor calls the Tribe of Gum legendary.

- The Tribe of Gum appeared in the first Doctor Who story, An Unearthly Child. In 2013, the Tribe did return in the comic story Hunters of the Burning Stone but far from not progressing at all technologically, they had been enhanced by Promethean technology up to a point where they had space-faring capabilities.
