Theory:Timeline - Bilis Manger
If this thread's title doesn't specify it's spoilery, don't bring any up.
This page lists appearances of Bilis Manger in the order he experienced them. This timeline is based upon observations of the Doctor Who universe and the events that occur during each of these stories. From these observations we have attempted to build a concise timeline. It is assumed that for each novel, comic, audio or television series, their published, broadcast or numbered order is the order they occur in.
Limiting factors[[edit source]]
Due to Bilis Manger living outside of time, that entails living in many times simultaneously. Despite this, the Torchwood team tend to encounter him in the same order that he encounters them. However, certain non-televised stories can arguably be placed in different parts of his timeline.
Timeline[[edit source]]
Serving Abaddon[[edit source]]
- In 1876, Bilis and his counterpart, Cafard Manger, witness the reopening of the Rift and the release of Abaddon and Pwccm. (PROSE: The Twilight Streets)
- Being a greeter at the Ritz in January 1941 and the manager of the Ritz in the early 2000s simultaneously, Bilis traps Jack Harkness and Toshiko Sato back in time as part of a plan to open the Rift. He allows Toshiko to write the rift equations needed to return them to the present, scratchs out some of the numbers and allows Owen Harper to find them in the present. Manipulating the team into saving the two of them causes the unstable Rift to open up, threatening modern day Earth.
- Bilis' plan comes to fruition when the Rift opens and lets out horrors of the past and the future around the globe, all linking back to the Torchwood Rift. When they revolt against Jack, Abaddon rises over Cardiff. Believing his work to be done, Bilis disappears.
- Bilis is working at his shop, which ends up burning down. He claims to be an expert in time and grandfather clocks. During Sam's attempt to seal Bilis into the Rift, Bilis states that he must be free to keep the Rift stable for an upcoming catastrophe.
- The events of End of Days allow Pwccm to send the Dark to battle the Light in Cardiff. After Pwccm successfully imprisons most of the Light, Bilis and Torchwood work together to imprison the Dark in a wooden box and send the Light to imprison Pwccm. Shortly afterwards, Bilis leaves on a plane with Abaddon's ashes. There are no records of Bilis' shop.
Owner of Amser Hotel[[edit source]]
- Bilis acts as manager of the Amser Hotel in Roath, Cardiff in 1869. When the Rift opens and frees a creature, Bilis is trapped in the Hotel and forced to lure people in to feed the creature. When the creature forces Bilis to lure Jack Harkness in, in the hope of using Jack to anchor him to the Earth, Bilis feeds Jack enough clues to work out how to defeat the creature and free Bilis.
Feud with the Committee[[edit source]]
- Bilis is trapped inside the Traveller's Halt by the Committee, caring for those trapped at the Traveller's Halt until he is able to escape.
- Bilis has "beef" with the Committee and thwarts their plans to replace three people with duplicates for their new society and places them on a train in a time loop as payback. Bilis decides that he must "visit old friends", implicitly leading into A Kill to a View.
- After the demolition of the Ritz dance hall, Ritz Tower was built in its place to harness human aggression. Bilis acts as the caretaker, wanting to harness this aggression and use it to open the Rift and send a message to whomever the Sorvix had fled from and lead them to Earth. After St John Colchester kills Sandra, Bilis claims he had successfully sent his message, and considers his mission to be complete.
Meddling with the Timeline[[edit source]]
- Fully aware of a future Torchwood Three team, that he labels "New Torchwood" containing Diana Lopez, Vijay Meghani and Bryn Popkin, Bilis makes it his mission to step in and change history, erasing this future, by causing the death of the three humans and destroying many pieces of technology that would have gone on to save the human race in the near future. Bilis recalls the 'Herald' arriving, Yvonne's universe hopping, and Colchester cheating death, setting this after the events of God Among Us.
- The story ends on a strange note Vijay having dreamt these events and with them in another timeline, heading to Cardiff Castle on a Torchwood mission. This is most likely the "original timeline" that was edited by Bilis.
Trapped in the Torchwood Archive[[edit source]]
- Bilis tells Jill Anderson that "his games with Torchwood extend through history and are like a game of cat and mouse", suggesting a long rivalry.
Evading the Vondrax[[edit source]]
- Bilis claims to be retired, listing being a servant and repairing clocks as his past occupations, and is creating a trail of false corpses across time to fool the Vondrax.
