This page lists appearances of Captain John Hart in the order he experienced them. This timeline is based upon observations of the Doctor Who universe and the events that occur during each of these stories. From these observations we have attempted to build a concise timeline. It is assumed that for each novel, comic, audio or television series, their published, broadcast or numbered order is the order they occur in.

Working for the Time Agency[[edit source]]

- John is working for the Time Agency on paper but has gone rogue. He threw his line manager into a black hole.

- John referencing having just been searching for gauntlets in restoration England, referencing The Restored.

- John notes that he and Jack have not taken on these names yet, but disregards this continuity as "boring". The Restored was "last week", and he also recalls escaping the "wooden prison" from Escape from Nebazz.

- Reference is made to one of the gauntlets, hidden on Earth, as seen in The Restored.

- John has gone undercover at the Braxiatel University as one of Prof. Bernice Summerfield's students as a ploy to learn about Dark Gallifrey. His plan is interrupted when he bumps into the War Master who has similar plans. Bernice takes them both there, seemingly against her will. It's a trap, and The Imbomination captures them. No reference of the Torchwood Institute or Jack Harkness is made, suggesting a solo mission.

Creating an alternate timeline[[edit source]]

- John creates an alternate timeline with his meddling.
Reuniting with Jack[[edit source]]

- John reunites with Jack, now the leader Torchwood Three in early 21st century Cardiff. John learns that Jack cannot die.
- Jack, Owen, Tosh and Ianto are caught in a trap set by John Hart, who reveals he has Jack's brother, Gray, as a hostage after Gwen and Rhys save them, leading directly into Exit Wounds.

- Continues where Fragments left off. Upon confronting John, Jack leans that Gray is actually holding John hostage in a plan for revenge on his brother for losing him.
