A version of Braxiatel who, like the one who would go to Legion, considered placing a data bomb in the Matrix prior to the Project Alpha test left Gallifrey, (AUDIO: The Inquiry (audio story)) choosing to be a collector and put aside his heritage as an "accident of birth". (PROSE: Where Angels Fear (novel)) He purchased works of art and kept in contact with his other self in violation of the Laws of Time (AUDIO: The Inquiry (audio story)) and saw himself as being on the sidelines of the universe. By the time of Romana II's first presidency, one version of Braxiatel had left Gallifrey (AUDIO: The Inquiry (audio story)) to dedicate his life to being a collector, putting aside his heritage as an "accident of birth" to live on the sidelines of the universe. (PROSE: Where Angels Fear (novel)) He kept in contact with the version of himself on Gallifrey, in violation of the Laws of Time, (AUDIO: The Inquiry (audio story)) and helped found the Collector's Guild to find like-minded people. However, he rarely played a part in the way it was governed. (PROSE: The Cost for a Collection (short story))

Although he had heard of Romana II from his other self, this Braxiatel did not meet her until she purchased a sculpture he had intended to purchase from a museum and left an unsigned letter asking him to meet her on Colesteron. Centuries after leaving Gallifrey, (PROSE: Where Angels Fear (novel)) Braxiatel became head of the Department of Theatrology at St Oscar's University on Dellah and sponsored the Shakespeare Building. Although he once claimed that he was helping out on Dellah because it was "good for the soul", he implied that his reason for being there was because of God, (PROSE: Dragons' Wrath (novel)) who was interested in the planet due to the Ferutu. Braxiatel put a lot of effort into the planet (PROSE: Where Angels Fear (novel)) but spent very little time there. He made use of his old friend and colleague Skutloid to make stray cruisers disappear and supply mercenaries for secret missions. He received a job application from Ferdinand Archduke to work in Theatrology, but he was unimpressed by it and rejected him, unaware at the time that Archduke was a member of the Knights of Jeneve and had applied in the hopes of making his acquaintance.

Irving Braxiatel, also known to his friends as Brax, was a Time Lord and the elder brother of the Doctor.

He maintained the Braxiatel Collection and briefly held several high offices on Gallifrey, including Cardinal, Chancellor, and President. He lived a life of many paradoxes and anomalies, including separate lives on Dellah, Legion and the Braxiatel Collection. He was finally set on his "true path" by the Watchmaker, after which he became embroiled in the Last Great Time War.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Early life[[edit] | [edit source]]

Irving Braxiatel lived on Gallifrey (PROSE: The Empire of Glass [+]Loading...["The Empire of Glass (novel)"], etc.) and had a father who laid down a cellar of Draconian brandy when he was a "babe-in-arms". (AUDIO: Everybody Loves Irving [+]Loading...["Everybody Loves Irving (audio story)"]) He also had a younger brother, the Doctor, (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle [+]Loading...["Tears of the Oracle (novel)"]) and several sisters. (TV: Arachnids in the UK [+]Loading...["Arachnids in the UK (TV story)"]) He would later tell Bernice Summerfield that he grew up in a culture with little in common with her own. (PROSE: The Light that Never Dies [+]Loading...["The Light that Never Dies (short story)"])

Braxiatel studied at the Time Lord Academy. Although he hated his time there, during which he was nicknamed "the Icicle", (AUDIO: Lies [+]Loading...["Lies (audio story)"]) he was determined to succeed so that he could leave Gallifrey, attracted by the wealth of knowledge in the universe and not wanting to conform. (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle [+]Loading...["Tears of the Oracle (novel)"]) He was tutored by Danna Dementara and learnt from her how to be a diplomat and a soldier as well as how to shoot down a whole flock of Pazithi bats with one shot whilst blindfolded. (AUDIO: Soldier Obscura [+]Loading...["Soldier Obscura (audio story)"]) A lesson that he learnt at school was that "time plays silly buggers with us all". (PROSE: Winging It [+]Loading...["Winging It (short story)"])

Passing with a handful of firsts, Braxiatel became an unofficial ambassador for the Time Lords, dealing with off-world affairs that he pretended not to be wholly interested in so as to disguise his desire to leave. He was eventually able to persuade the Time Lords that he would be of more use as a permanent presence off-world. Although the First Doctor respected Braxiatel, he envied his brother's freedom to leave the planet and attempted to follow in his footsteps before realising that the Time Lords did not need another Braxiatel. He instead deliberately underachieved at the Academy, something that Braxiatel believed was genius. (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle [+]Loading...["Tears of the Oracle (novel)"])

When he was young, Braxiatel met the Blind Soldier recovered from the Obscura and stole The Art of the Obscura from him. To his horror, he learnt that the soldier was not a survivor of the ancient Time Wars but of a time war yet to come. (AUDIO: Soldier Obscura [+]Loading...["Soldier Obscura (audio story)"])

Maris' potential engine told her that the Doctor's brother was a government stooge. (PROSE: Celestial Intervention - A Gallifreyan Noir [+]Loading...["Celestial Intervention - A Gallifreyan Noir (short story)"]) At one point, Braxiatel held the position of Lord Burner, the personal assassin of President VII, who "burned" people from history. During this time, he allowed an old man and his granddaughter to flee Gallifrey, even though he had been given the order to erase them from history. The very same day, President Pandad died when a power relay in his office overloaded; an inquiry headed by Braxiatel found that this was an accident. (AUDIO: Disassembled [+]Loading...["Disassembled (audio story)"])

Braxiatel later tutored at the Academy and taught Romana. She confided in him about her encounter with Pandora in the Vaults, prompting him to hypnotise her to forget about it as well as to forget about him. (AUDIO: Lies [+]Loading...["Lies (audio story)"])

Beginning the Collection[[edit] | [edit source]]

Braxiatel became a cardinal, (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Extinction Event [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Extinction Event (audio story)"], etc.) but accounts differed on whether this entitled him to a seat on the High Council; one had Romana II saying that he was on the Council whilst he was a Cardinal (AUDIO: The Inquiry [+]Loading...["The Inquiry (audio story)"]) whilst another indicated that he was not on the Council until he was appointed High Chancellor. (AUDIO: Lies [+]Loading...["Lies (audio story)"])

Braxiatel calculated that Project Alpha's Timonic Fusion Device would be devastating and, after failing to convince Glower to put an end to the project, placed a data bomb in the Matrix recording information on it and its destruction of Minyos. However, time was changed and the Timonic Fusion Device was stolen, with Braxiatel being told that it had been dismantled. Given the amount of destruction that the device could have caused, he was driven to begin the Braxiatel Collection, gathering art from across the universe for its own protection, a mission which involved regularly communicating with his future selves. (AUDIO: The Inquiry [+]Loading...["The Inquiry (audio story)"])

During a meeting which included the Celestial Intervention Agency and the castellans, Braxiatel remarked that chapters and houses were no longer of the highest import. Narvin disagreed with him and later wondered if Braxiatel had been referencing Narvin's own family history. (AUDIO: Damned If You Do [+]Loading...["Damned If You Do (audio story)"])

In his position as the Time Lords' unofficial ambassador, Braxiatel organised the Armageddon Convention which he tried to get the Third Doctor to chair, but after the Omega crisis his agents accidentally brought the wrong incarnation. The Convention was not particularly successful, although it did outlaw the use of Cyber-bombs. Due to the relative failure of the Convention, Braxiatel decided to begin focusing on building up his Collection rather than involving himself in galactic politics. (PROSE: The Empire of Glass [+]Loading...["The Empire of Glass (novel)"])

Brax of Legion[[edit] | [edit source]]

Romana's presidency[[edit] | [edit source]]

Braxiatel sought Romana II out when she returned to Gallifrey and supported her throughout her campaign to become president, wanting to keep an eye on her due to Pandora (AUDIO: Lies [+]Loading...["Lies (audio story)"]) and also planning to succeed her. (AUDIO: Pandora [+]Loading...["Pandora (audio story)"]) Some years after her election, he informed her when the Eighth Doctor's TARDIS dematerialised of its own accord, having been infected with anti-time. (AUDIO: Zagreus [+]Loading...["Zagreus (audio story)"])

Months later, (AUDIO: Lies [+]Loading...["Lies (audio story)"]) Braxiatel went to the Outlands with K9 Mark I to take Leela back to the Capitol and discussed the issues of the Timonic Fusion Device and Gryben with Romana and Narvin, later countermanding Romana's command for Gallifrey's transduction barriers to be lowered for the refugees. Darkel informed him that there would be an inquiry into how the Gryben situation was handled. (AUDIO: Weapon of Choice [+]Loading...["Weapon of Choice (audio story)"])

Whilst a pretend temporal summit was held elsewhere under Liaison Officer Hossak's supervision, Braxiatel attended the real one as Gallifrey's chief negotiator. (AUDIO: Square One [+]Loading...["Square One (Gallifrey audio story)"])

Alongside Darkel, Braxiatel presided over the inquiry into Romana's actions. He was arrested by "Torvald" after his flouting of the Laws of Time became known, although he claimed that he did so for the benefit of the universe, and was let off when Romana determined his crimes to be inconsequential. He admitted that he had planned to install a data bomb should Project Alpha have gone ahead to ensure that it could not be covered up and also suggested that Leela look at Andred's biodata in the Panopticon Archive to help with her search for him. (AUDIO: The Inquiry [+]Loading...["The Inquiry (audio story)"])

Braxiatel supported Romana's edict to permit off-worlders to study on Gallifrey, as did several chancellors and castellans of the chapters and houses. (AUDIO: Damned If You Do [+]Loading...["Damned If You Do (audio story)"]) Once the new university was established, Braxiatel was placed in charge of it.

Braxiatel set his sights on the office of High Chancellor and a place on the High Council, two things that Romana told him that she would not give him due to their friendship and Braxiatel's involvement with his past and future selves. He defended Narvin when he was implicated in Andred's escape and, in the vaults, confessed to Romana that he had put a memory block on her at the Academy. Following Pandora's apparent defeat, Braxiatel recommended that Narvin, whom he had told about his law-breaking, be given a selective memory wipe. (AUDIO: Lies [+]Loading...["Lies (audio story)"])

More than a week later, Braxiatel suggested that Romana take a leave of absence whilst K9 Mark I and Mark II scoured the Matrix for Pandora, aware of Darkel's desire for her to step down. He investigated the broken man and planned to collect him and his TARDIS secretly to protect Romana, a mission in which he was unsuccessful. (AUDIO: Spirit [+]Loading...["Spirit (audio story)"])

Braxiatel was finally made Chancellor after Darkel suggested that Romana do so for the good of Gallifrey. He appointed Leela as acting castellan in Wynter's absence (AUDIO: Pandora [+]Loading...["Pandora (audio story)"]) and successfully trapped Pandora inside Darkel's mind after she released her, storing some of the creature in his own mind to act as a key to its true prison. (AUDIO: Mindbomb [+]Loading...["Mindbomb (audio story)"]) He chose to protect Gallifrey from her by entering a self-imposed exile to keep Pandora from entering the Matrix, but Romana was forced to strip him of his titles and exile him in disgrace after Narvin made his breaking of the Laws of Time known. Before leaving, he advised Romana to place Leela in charge of the Academy. (AUDIO: Pandora [+]Loading...["Pandora (audio story)"])

Exile and the Axis[[edit] | [edit source]]

In exile, Braxiatel had a number of adventures in which he took down the Free Time movement. He heard several rumours of Gallifrey one day facing a terrible threat which only Pandora would have had the strength to defeat and also realised that whoever was president during the Dogma Virus situation would be taken down. (AUDIO: Panacea [+]Loading...["Panacea (audio story)"])

Braxiatel during his exile. (AUDIO: Panacea [+]Loading...["Panacea (audio story)"])

Following the destruction of the Matrix, (AUDIO: Warfare [+]Loading...["Warfare (audio story)"]) Braxiatel returned to Gallifrey. He publicly declared that Darkel was not president due to the stripping of his offices being technically annulled, meaning that Valyes was never Chancellor and could not appoint her as his successor. Braxiatel claimed the presidency for himself but, unable to deal with Pandora's hatred in his mind in the presence of so many Time Lords, he resigned and appointed Matthias as his successor, seeking to save Romana. Before returning to his exile, he used the small amount of Pandora in his mind to free the creature imprisoned in Darkel, which devoured her. (AUDIO: Mindbomb [+]Loading...["Mindbomb (audio story)"])

Braxiatel brought Romana and Elbon to the Axis, (AUDIO: Reborn [+]Loading...["Reborn (audio story)"]) although he pretended that they were on a planetoid. He used a Time Scoop to remove the biodata archive, along with Leela and Narvin, with the intention of using it to reconstruct the Time Lords following Gallifrey's fall. However, matters were complicated after a cure that removed the ability to regenerate headed to Gallifrey with a consignment of guns. (AUDIO: Panacea [+]Loading...["Panacea (audio story)"]) He located a portal in the Axis which led to a Gallifrey that he wished to explore.

On the first Gallifrey that the group visited, Braxiatel met and flirted with an alternative Romana and was intrigued by the selling of regenerations. (AUDIO: Reborn [+]Loading...["Reborn (audio story)"]) Upon returning to the Axis, he remained there to prevent it from being taken over by anybody from an alternative timeline and fought with an alternative Doctor who attempted to do so, falling into a portal with him. Romana said that it was likely that they would fall through time for eternity, although one or both of them might survive and land in one of the timelines. (AUDIO: Disassembled [+]Loading...["Disassembled (audio story)"])

Braxiatel found himself on a Gallifrey which had embraced magic as its way of life and was mistaken for his treasonous counterpart. Queen Romana ordered Sir Narvin to take him on a hunt for the Great Beast and, on their journey, Braxiatel was able to persuade him that he truly did come from another timeline. He found that the Great Beast was his counterpart transformed by magic into a dragon who hoarded temporal technology and used the paradox of their meeting to create a spark to activate the technology, opening a portal in time he hoped would take him home. Before leaving, Braxiatel gave Narvin a hint on where his counterpart's weakness likely was. (AUDIO: The Questing Beast [+]Loading...["The Questing Beast (audio story)"])

A fresh start[[edit] | [edit source]]

Braxiatel arrived in what he believed might be another universe, although he did not rule out the possibility that it could be his own. (AUDIO: Everybody Loves Irving [+]Loading...["Everybody Loves Irving (audio story)"]) He briefly met Bernice Summerfield, who told him that his future self would attend her wedding, (AUDIO: Disassembled [+]Loading...["Disassembled (audio story)"], Judgement Day [+]Loading...["Judgement Day (BFBS audio story)"]) and learnt about the Braxiatel Collection, now owned by "other people", (AUDIO: The Curse of Fenman [+]Loading...["The Curse of Fenman (audio story)"]) and the crimes that his other self committed. (AUDIO: Everybody Loves Irving [+]Loading...["Everybody Loves Irving (audio story)"])

Braxiatel left the sector that his other self operated in and sought to run a museum or art gallery. He went to the Chamber of Real Estate on Dexter Prime to purchase a property and encountered Avril Fenman, who sent Pandora from his mind into his other self in the past and used a crystal to influence him. Removing his memory afterwards, she influenced him to buy a customs house on Legion and to find Peter. He purchased Peter from the slave pits of Bastion and attempted to buy Antonio Tulloch as well, but he was killed. (AUDIO: The Curse of Fenman [+]Loading...["The Curse of Fenman (audio story)"]) He then took Peter to Legion. (AUDIO: Judgement Day [+]Loading...["Judgement Day (BFBS audio story)"])

Dropping the name "Braxiatel" to avoid his other self's enemies, (AUDIO: Everybody Loves Irving [+]Loading...["Everybody Loves Irving (audio story)"]) Irving established the White Rabbit in Legion City (AUDIO: Paradise Frost [+]Loading...["Paradise Frost (audio story)"]) and became aware of Avril's manipulations after finding that Peter believed that he was still in a relationship with Antonio. He hired Jack to work at the White Rabbit when he sensed that he had another of Avril's crystals in him (AUDIO: The Curse of Fenman [+]Loading...["The Curse of Fenman (audio story)"]) and located Benny in a stasis chamber on Mars, leaving her a message inviting her to reunite with Peter on Legion. (AUDIO: Judgement Day [+]Loading...["Judgement Day (BFBS audio story)"])

Benny's arrival[[edit] | [edit source]]

Irving welcomed Benny when she and Ruth finally arrived on Legion (AUDIO: Paradise Frost [+]Loading...["Paradise Frost (audio story)"]) and did his best to make them comfortable. (AUDIO: Vesuvius Falling [+]Loading...["Vesuvius Falling (audio story)"]) He went with Benny to Ikeria City to buy the Crater Base and a shuttle and was surprised that Lord Galot knew him due to a previous business with the other Braxiatel. After making his purchases, he and Benny made a toast to new frontiers. (AUDIO: Everybody Loves Irving [+]Loading...["Everybody Loves Irving (audio story)"])

Braxiatel and Benny. (AUDIO: New Frontiers)

Irving promised to find Benny archaeological work and was contacted by Bil Bil Gloap, who wanted to hire her to write a book on poetry. He passed the message on to her. (PROSE: The Slender-Fingered Cats of Bubastis [+]Loading...["The Slender-Fingered Cats of Bubastis (novel)"])

When Jack plugged a WonderBox 3000 into the White Rabbit, Irving was kidnapped by faceless men and taken to the Great Shifting Wurm which invaded his mind to find the equations to escape into the real world. He fought it inside a robot in his mindscape until Olk started fighting the Wurm and Benny and Jack saved him. They returned to the real world and Irving said that he would throw the box into a sun, but he instead took it to his other self on a world under a burning sky. (PROSE: Wurm Noir [+]Loading...["Wurm Noir (short story)"])

Advent[[edit] | [edit source]]

Deciding to name his shuttle after himself, Irving began painting his name onto it until Benny told him that she wanted to name it after her father, leading him to call it the Irverfield. He sent Benny, Ruth and Jack to deliver documents to Harrison in the Theia Quadrant on Till Madden's behalf. (AUDIO: A Handful of Dust [+]Loading...["A Handful of Dust (audio story)"])

Irving became aware of Adam Yarryl's crime to some extent and established a business relationship between the White Rabbit and the Yarryl Corporation. He sent Benny to meet him, which she agreed to on the condition that he pay for a holiday on Bella Sol, and, following Yarryl's exposure and death, he denied having manipulated her and claimed not to have known the full extent of Yarryl's crimes. She believed him. (PROSE: Filthy Lucre [+]Loading...["Filthy Lucre (novel)"])

Having worked out Avril Fenman's plans, Irving destroyed her asteroid, Hera, and arranged to celebrate Advent at the Crater Base. He finally admitted that Antonio Tulloch had died and the reason that he hired Jack and thwarted Avril's plan, allowing Peter to shoot her and free Antonio. Afterwards, Benny confronted him about him being manipulative, but he told her that he would do what he had to to protect his new family. (AUDIO: The Curse of Fenman [+]Loading...["The Curse of Fenman (audio story)"])

Irving was suspicious of Danny Crosby's show and, after Ruth and Jack claimed to be busy, he sent Benny to investigate. She later wondered what he would make of what she had discovered. (AUDIO: White Christmas [+]Loading...["White Christmas (audio story)"])

The Epoch[[edit] | [edit source]]

Mistaking Irving for his other self, Pike Thornton pretended to be the Brimstone Kid and lured him and Benny to the Cosimo Diamond Mine with the promise of a share of money stolen during a train robbery. After Thornton revealed his deception and the real Brimstone arrived and activated octagon detonators, Irving and Benny fled in escape pods, but Irving's was drawn off-course (AUDIO: The Brimstone Kid [+]Loading...["The Brimstone Kid (audio story)"]) by the Epoch. (AUDIO: In Living Memory [+]Loading...["In Living Memory (audio story)"]) Benny then forgot him. (AUDIO: The Brimstone Kid [+]Loading...["The Brimstone Kid (audio story)"])

The Epoch made Irving believe that he was Miles Richardson, a voice actor who played Irving, a fictional character remapped as a rich man named Julius. He, Benny, Ruth and Jack were saved by another Benny and led to the Heart of Time where the other Benny threw herself and Dr Bernard Springmoore into the Time Vortex to render the Epoch redundant and end their scheme. When Benny suggested that they use the Epoch's technology to recover those that they lost, Irving said that he would like to find Gallifrey. (AUDIO: In Living Memory [+]Loading...["In Living Memory (audio story)"])

After the Epoch[[edit] | [edit source]]

Benny indicated that Irving was still running the White Rabbit during Ruth and Jack's engagement. However, Keri, before making comparisons with Irving, asked the Twelfth Doctor if he had met "the guy who used to own" the pub, suggesting that he had moved on from Legion. Brax of Dellah[[edit] | [edit source]]

A new life[[edit] | [edit source]]

By the time of Romana II's first presidency, one version of Braxiatel had left Gallifrey (AUDIO: The Inquiry [+]Loading...["The Inquiry (audio story)"]) to dedicate his life to being a collector, putting aside his heritage as an "accident of birth" to live on the sidelines of the universe. (PROSE: Where Angels Fear [+]Loading...["Where Angels Fear (novel)"]) He kept in contact with the version of himself on Gallifrey, in violation of the Laws of Time, (AUDIO: The Inquiry [+]Loading...["The Inquiry (audio story)"]) and helped found the Collector's Guild to find like-minded people. However, he rarely played a part in the way it was governed. (PROSE: The Cost for a Collection [+]Loading...["The Cost for a Collection (short story)"])

Although he had heard of Romana II from his other self, this Braxiatel did not meet her until she purchased a sculpture he had intended to purchase from a museum and left an unsigned letter asking him to meet her on Colesteron. He did so and answered her questions about the data bomb in the Matrix, telling her that he had once considered planting one and sharing with her what he would have had it do. Afterwards, he contacted his other self to inform him of the meeting and told him that he liked Romana. (AUDIO: The Inquiry [+]Loading...["The Inquiry (audio story)"])

When telling Narvin about how Romana had got her information for the inquiry into her response to the Gryben debacle, the Braxiatel who was on Gallifrey said that this other Braxiatel was, by then, "living far away with new friends". (AUDIO: Lies [+]Loading...["Lies (audio story)"])

At St Oscar's[[edit] | [edit source]]

This section's awfully stubby.

Further info from Deadfall [+]Loading...["Deadfall (novel)"] and The Medusa Effect [+]Loading...["The Medusa Effect (novel)"] needs to be added

Centuries after leaving Gallifrey, (PROSE: Where Angels Fear [+]Loading...["Where Angels Fear (novel)"]) Braxiatel became head of the Department of Theatrology at St Oscar's University on Dellah and sponsored the Shakespeare Building. Although he once claimed that he was helping out on Dellah because it was "good for the soul", he implied that his reason for being there was because of God, (PROSE: Dragons' Wrath [+]Loading...["Dragons' Wrath (novel)"]) who was interested in the planet due to the Ferutu. (PROSE: Where Angels Fear [+]Loading...["Where Angels Fear (novel)"], Twilight of the Gods [+]Loading...["Twilight of the Gods (BNA novel)"]) John would later accuse him of hiding and forgetting the people to whom he belonged.

Braxiatel put a lot of effort into the planet (PROSE: Where Angels Fear [+]Loading...["Where Angels Fear (novel)"]) but spent very little time there.

Braxiatel met Bernice Summerfield, (PROSE: Dragons' Wrath [+]Loading...["Dragons' Wrath (novel)"]) although she had already met another version of him whom she believed to be his future self (PROSE: Dragons' Wrath [+]Loading...["Dragons' Wrath (novel)"]; AUDIO: Many Happy Returns [+]Loading...["Many Happy Returns (audio story)"]) at her wedding, following the murder of Newark Rappare. Investigating the murder, he deduced that Rappare had created a false Gamalian Dragon for Romolo Nusek to use in a scheme for power and ensured that he acted as chairman on the Stanturan Inquiry to prevent it. (PROSE: Dragons' Wrath [+]Loading...["Dragons' Wrath (novel)"]) He also discovered that Joseph was spying on Benny for God, but kept this to himself because she "never asked". (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle [+]Loading...["Tears of the Oracle (novel)"]) Nusek attempted to have him and Benny executed on Tharn, but Braxiatel caused a volcanic eruption which allowed them to escape. He later realised that they had been used by the Knights of Jeneve to protect Earth's empire. (PROSE: Dragons' Wrath [+]Loading...["Dragons' Wrath (novel)"])

According to one account, Benny had her adventure involving the Gamalian Dragon without Braxiatel. Instead, it was Mappin Gilder who assisted Benny and who acted as chairman of the Stanturan Inquiry. (AUDIO: Dragons' Wrath [+]Loading...["Dragons' Wrath (audio story)"]) A third account indicated that Benny met a separate Braxiatel whom she interacted with only briefly. (AUDIO: Judgement Day [+]Loading...["Judgement Day (BFBS audio story)"])

During the summer holidays at St Oscar's, Braxiatel spent his time wandering the arboreta, reading in the library, writing entirely incorrect annotations to the museum's catalogues and drinking wine. He was interrupted in the course of enjoying a bottle when Benny burst in and told him of her latest adventure. (PROSE: Ship of Fools [+]Loading...["Ship of Fools (novel)"])

Braxiatel asked Benny to look out for Emile Mars-Smith. He later gave her Jakson Pierce's coordinates Ardethan coordinates and arranged new lives for the political prisoners that Jason Kane and Chris Cwej rescued. (PROSE: Deadfall [+]Loading...["Deadfall (novel)"])

He later helped Benny and Skutloid by providing them with information on Medusa and assisted Stuart Stonely. (PROSE: The Medusa Effect [+]Loading...["The Medusa Effect (novel)"])

The Gods of Dellah[[edit] | [edit source]]

When the Time Lords ordered Braxiatel to return to Gallifrey in anticipation of the release of the Ferutu, Braxiatel refused and his TARDIS was recalled. As a result, he could no longer return even if he wanted to.

Braxiatel used Renée Thalia to spy on John, whom he did not trust, and later forced her to join the Sultan of the Tashwari's New Moral Army. He realised the danger that the rise in religious belief posed to him after Solomon Merrick's execution and tried to get Renée to leave with him and several other academics, an offer which she declined. He helped Emile Mars-Smith evacuate the spaceport before its bombing and led the refugees to John's fleet of ships, although he was temporarily captured by Renée and learnt that she had been manipulating him, and was forced to leave without Benny. (PROSE: Where Angels Fear [+]Loading...["Where Angels Fear (novel)"])

Braxiatel eventually convinced Renée to leave him. (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle [+]Loading...["Tears of the Oracle (novel)"]) Aware that his people were doomed, he intended to use a huge and extremely dense energy field in space generated by interdimensional leakage to provide for them once he created a new homeworld. (AUDIO: Resurrecting the Past [+]Loading...["Resurrecting the Past (audio story)"]) He also decided to set up a permanent collection and invited Benny to assist him with them.

After attempting to save Skutloid from St Oscar's, Braxiatel won KS-159, (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle [+]Loading...["Tears of the Oracle (novel)"]) located inside the energy field, (AUDIO: Resurrecting the Past [+]Loading...["Resurrecting the Past (audio story)"]) from Hayward Denson at a casino and went there with Benny and a team to find the Oracle of the Lost. He asked the Oracle if he would ever return to his people, which he knew she could not answer, and contacted them to send Cwej to help investigate what happened to Edward Watkinson. When the Paracletes parasite entered Joseph, Braxiatel sent a message to God through B-Aaron and later went with Benny to find a way to cure her brain affliction. (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle [+]Loading...["Tears of the Oracle (novel)"])

Braxiatel and Benny sought the help of the Stratum Seven Agent to investigate after Kara Delbane was killed, also being assisted by Chris. (PROSE: Return to the Fractured Planet [+]Loading...["Return to the Fractured Planet (novel)"])

When Benny decided to leave the Collection, Braxiatel was, like Jason, Clarence and Cwej, concerned that she would not return and planned to ensure that she would have a boring time with Dent Harper on Virabilis. He communicated with Jason over a supralight microwave link and fed him information on Dorpfeld's Prism to help him infiltrate Rula Winther's Cartel. When Benny returned to the Collection, he gave Clarence the honour of putting the Prism away, although only reluctantly did he decide not to touch it. (PROSE: The Joy Device [+]Loading...["The Joy Device (novel)"])

Braxiatel was summoned to Juana Somata by Benny to help keep Anderson Lee Stractiphy from potentially damaging sites of archaeological interest. He examined the sculpture of frozen time that she had found and tried to remove it to be taken to the Braxiatel Collection, but it stole ten years of his memories before vanishing along with the ruins around it, meaning that ALS's work could continue. Although he never discussed his missing memories, Benny believed that they did indeed bother him. (AUDIO: Collector's Item [+]Loading...["Collector's Item (BFBS audio story)"])

Warned by the Time Lords and the People that Dellah's sector of space would be destroyed by the Doomsday Probe if the matter of the gods was not resolved, Braxiatel sent Benny, Jason, Cwej and Clarence to transport the planet to the Ferutu's universe with a transference node and to recover Teran Sevic to help him bring peace to Vremnya. Once both situations were resolved, he set up the University of Vremnya, hired Benny as the head of the Archaeology Department and put Emile Mars-Smith, who had been assisting him at the Collection, in charge of overseeing the initial stages. He promised Benny that they would recover Jason from the Ferutu's universe when the time was right. (PROSE: Twilight of the Gods [+]Loading...["Twilight of the Gods (VNA novel)"])

Establishing the Collection[[edit] | [edit source]]

Approaching the age of 1,500, (PROSE: The Collection [+]Loading...["The Collection (short story)"]) Braxiatel recruited Benny to work for him as the Collection neared completion. Shortly afterwards, he took her to mediaeval Blackpool where he acquired a copy of the Domesday Book. Benny, however, told him that it was theft and forced him to return it after she had a quick look at it. (AUDIO: Many Happy Returns [+]Loading...["Many Happy Returns (audio story)"])

Braxiatel became aware that the Delvian Academy's Comparative Religion Society was stealing from other researchers to slow their progress and ensure that their own findings were published first. To stop them, he invited them to dinner on the Collection, knowing that they would attempt to steal a book on Traxis Four and Traxis Six and planning on catching them in the act. Benny was unaware of the plan and moved the book, but the scheme ended up working and Erich Fromm was caught. (PROSE: A Question of Identity [+]Loading...["A Question of Identity (short story)"])

Benny agreed to help Braxiatel by cataloguing the Collection's film library and presented him with a documentary on the 22nd century Delcanto rebellion in which Mrrct'llz acts differently each time Benny rewinds his execution. Braxiatel noted that he did not believe in ghosts, but they learnt that Mrrct'llz was a Brv'cllnz and burnt footage of the execution, with Braxiatel promising to find any other copies and ensure that the same has not happened to anybody else. (PROSE: The Light that Never Dies [+]Loading...["The Light that Never Dies (short story)"])

Wanting access to the Ganesh system, Braxiatel sent Benny to the Exhalation to negotiate with COMBINE. She succeeded in convincing the Lady to give the Collection access (PROSE: Heart of Glass [+]Loading...["Heart of Glass (short story)"]) and travelled to Ganesh, but she was kept from the sites of archaeological interest by the authorities. Braxiatel flew to the planet to help her and briefly had his face stolen by Janus before Benny bargained for its return. (PROSE: Kill the Mouse! [+]Loading...["Kill the Mouse! (short story)"])

After Braxiatel learnt that an aphrodisiac had been released into the air conditioning at a bar on the Collection, he informed Benny, who had been at the bar. He later discovered that Porl Tomas was behind it and that a ring capable of travelling through time had been stolen from his personal collection and went to confront Porl with Anderson and two members of the security team. He found Benny in Porl's bed and demanded to know where Porl was, but she sent him in the wrong direction whilst she confronted him herself. (PROSE: Step Back in Time [+]Loading...["Step Back in Time (short story)"])

Braxiatel held a memorial service following Steven Mead's death, during which Tony Deek saw what he believed to be Steven's ghost. He asked Benny to speak with Tony and, once the situation was resolved, he shared bourbon with her and asked what she saw when she held the Memory Stone. She avoided telling him that she saw Jason. (PROSE: Christmas Spirit [+]Loading...["Christmas Spirit (short story)"])

When Daglan Straklant asked for Braxiatel's help, he refused as he did not want anything to do with the Fifth Axis. He accepted his offer of finding the other half of the Doomsday Manuscript to show good faith, but was alarmed upon finding that Josiah Vanderbilt, whose invitation Straklant had, was murdered. He disguised himself as a Fifth Axis commander, took Benny prisoner and branded Straklant a traitor before returning to the Collection. (PROSE: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Doomsday Manuscript [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Doomsday Manuscript (novel)"])

Braxiatel sent Benny to the Repository of the Improbable to meet R. F. Wilburton and pass on a message asking him to oversee the unloading of artefacts from the Magellan Cluster. She later told Braxiatel about how she and Joseph flew to Goron IV and saved the Goronians from the Earth Federation, but did not tell him how she had collided and temporarily merged with Jason due to a joining stone. (PROSE: The Door into Bedlam [+]Loading...["The Door into Bedlam (short story)"])

When Braxiatel asked Benny to take part in a docudrama about her life, she refused until she learnt that it was being produced by InterMedia. She unwittingly made a legally-binding contract with them and looked for Braxiatel to help her, but she could not find him. (PROSE: Digging up the Past [+]Loading...["Digging up the Past (short story)"])

Benny stood in for Braxiatel whilst he was away on business and attempted to get in contact with him before leaving the Collection with Dominic Troy, but she was unable to. When he did return, he questioned Benny and Avril Fenman to determine which of them was the real Benny and kept Avril from destroying Benny's soul. He permitted Avril to remain on the Collection and live in her former tomb, a decision that Benny was unhappy with. (PROSE: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Squire's Crystal [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Squire's Crystal (novel)"])

When it became apparent that the Argians' loot was hidden in a War Temple on Venedel, Braxiatel requested permission from the Earthlink Federation to send an expedition there. He was refused and instead sent Benny to join the Nishtubi expedition and find the Argian Oracle, telling her that it might be capable of telling her where Jason was. (PROSE: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Gods of the Underworld [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Gods of the Underworld (novel)"])

Braxiatel was in contact with Bratheen Traloor, who hired Adrian's firm to build his extension on Rhinvil and later requested Benny's help in identifying an artefact found on the planet. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Stone's Lament [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Stone's Lament (audio story)"])

Upon learning that a Halstad Harp was being sold at auction on Palastridon, Braxiatel picked up Benny from Lavellin and took her there to authenticate the artefact. He was willing to purchase the harp from the Gulfrarg Ambassador despite learning that he had destroyed Halstad and did not believe that the Ambassador's actions excused Hulver's attempts to murder him. When Benny realised that the Halstad artefacts legally belonged to Hulver, Braxiatel purchased the harp from him and offered him a job on the Collection, but Hulver killed the Ambassador and was arrested by the Gulfrarg Conglomerate. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Extinction Event [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Extinction Event (audio story)"])

Braxiatel introduced Benny to Dr Rupert Gilhooly and Father Igron Alsabalus and sent her to collect data from Tinker's Cross. When she was reunited with Jason, she promised to ask Braxiatel if he could live on the Collection. (PROSE: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Infernal Nexus [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Infernal Nexus (novel)"])

Before Benny took Braxiatel's shuttle to Karthos, she called him and, unable to get a hold of him, left him a voice message letting him know where she was going. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Skymines of Karthos [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Skymines of Karthos (audio story)"])

Braxiatel made it known that he had no interest in the latrines being excavated in the car park of the Gigamarket on Baladroon, but Benny went regardless so that she might do some shopping. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Greatest Shop in the Galaxy [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Greatest Shop in the Galaxy (audio story)"])

Joseph sent a message to Braxiatel from the Glass Prison on Deirbhile informing him of a planned invasion and Benny having given birth to Peter. He, Jason and Adrian took Benny, Peter, Joseph, Sophia and Claire to safety and, as a reward, he gave Sophia access to the Collection's treasures. He informed his friends of the disarray caused to the Fifth Axis by the death of their imperator and arranged for Isaac Summerfield to attend Peter's naming ceremony. (PROSE: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Glass Prison [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Glass Prison (novel)"])

Benny tried and failed to contact Braxiatel from Goron IV to ask him to keep an eye on Jason and Adrian. When Peter was returned to Ms Jones in reception, Jason and Adrian took him to Braxiatel to be looked after whilst they saved Benny from Ashantra du Lac. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Green-Eyed Monsters [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Green-Eyed Monsters (audio story)"])

Braxiatel told Benny that there was nothing she could do when she learnt from illegally gained records that Blastertal started a war (PROSE: Something Broken [+]Loading...["Something Broken (short story)"]) and, when she was unable to get to a dig that was being broadcast, he suggested that she fake her appearance. (PROSE: Time's Team [+]Loading...["Time's Team (short story)"])

Braxiatel sent a message to Benny informing her of Charles Stafford's upcoming visit and reminded her again two days later, finding that she had completely forgotten what had happened to her in that time. He later burned the mnemosine store book that Stafford gave to her. (PROSE: A la Recherche du Temps Perdu [+]Loading...["A la Recherche du Temps Perdu (short story)"])

Avril Fenman transferred Pandora from the head of the Braxiatel who later went to Legion back in time and into the Braxiatel on the Collection, around the time of Peter's birth. The liberated Braxiatel believed that this accounted for the actions that the Braxiatel on the Collection would go on to perform. (AUDIO: The Curse of Fenman [+]Loading...["The Curse of Fenman (audio story)"])

Braxiatel and Adrian Wall went after Benny and Jason after they fell through a mirror, inside of which Braxiatel encountered a fake Benny who accused him of engineering Peter's birth so that he could add him to his Collection. When Jason accused Braxiatel of knowing more than he was saying and asked why there was no evil double of him, he hypnotised him into forgetting his suspicions and suffering migraines whenever they should resurface, later blaming his migraine on the mirror. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Mirror Effect [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Mirror Effect (audio story)"])

Captain Patrick Quilby asked Braxiatel to send an archaeologist to the Rites of Passage to assist on Bellotron, a planet which Braxiatel was not familiar with. He granted the request by sending Benny (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Bellotron Incident [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Bellotron Incident (audio story)"]) and later hired Bev Tarrant.

Braxiatel received a request from Lord Paranash to send Benny to Draconia, ostensibly to examine an artefact found on Tranagus. Although she was hesitant to go as she wanted to spend time with Peter and was concerned about the consequences of the mass suicide of Draconians on Tranagus, Braxiatel managed to persuade her to go on his shuttle. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Draconian Rage [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Draconian Rage (audio story)"])

Braxiatel sent Benny to Chosan upon learning of the Calabraxian threat to the Sea Devils there, knowing of her friendship with Nedda. When Benny contacted him following the destruction of the Sea Devil base, he told her that everything on the Collection was fine but urged her to return as soon as possible. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Poison Seas [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Poison Seas (audio story)"])

Axis occupation[[edit] | [edit source]]

Braxiatel and Benny during the Fifth Axis occupation. (PROSE: Life During Wartime)

The Collection was attacked and occupied by the Fifth Axis, who placed Braxiatel under house arrest (PROSE: The Fall [+]Loading...["The Fall (short story)"]) and, hoping to gain access to his TARDIS, tortured him. (PROSE: Five Dimensional Thinking [+]Loading...["Five Dimensional Thinking (short story)"]; AUDIO: Death and the Daleks [+]Loading...["Death and the Daleks (audio story)"]) He and Joseph pretended to alter the Oracle of the Lost so the Axis would ignore its prophecies (PROSE: Careless Talk [+]Loading...["Careless Talk (short story)"]) and, coming to believe that his future self was behind the Axis, attempted to kill himself and Mushtaq Anson with poison. However, Benny convinced him to allow her to administer the antidote. (PROSE: Five Dimensional Thinking [+]Loading...["Five Dimensional Thinking (short story)"])

Braxiatel contacted Kellarn and asked him to come to the Collection disguised as Leo Didas, but he was killed by the Axis and replaced with a duplicate who tested Benny's loyalty, (PROSE: The Price of Everything [+]Loading...["The Price of Everything (short story)"]) and later told Ash Madai how to get Benny's Time Ring when Madai threatened to tell Anson how the Axis would be defeated. (PROSE: Midrash [+]Loading...["Midrash (short story)"])

A Watcher appeared to Braxiatel. Braxiatel had Joseph tell Benny where he was before strangling Bev Tarrant, leading Benny to shoot him in the chest and the Watcher to be dragged towards him before falling apart. Once it had, Braxiatel came to and was unharmed, telling Benny that he strangled Bev in an attempt to defeat the Watcher. (PROSE: Fear of Corners [+]Loading...["Fear of Corners (short story)"]) The root of an organic part of his technology later took Benny's form and attempted to kill him, but he was able to defeat her. (PROSE: Paths Not Taken [+]Loading...["Paths Not Taken (short story)"]) When the Axis demanded that Braxiatel remove his non-human acquisitions, he convinced Martlak to sell them to the Finliri and coordinated with Bev to smuggle the Axis' Ormand-Seltec flyers off of the Collection. Once they were found out, they were punished. (PROSE: Passing Storms [+]Loading...["Passing Storms (short story)"])

Braxiatel learnt from Benny of Isaac Summerfield II's involvement with the Axis and continued to resist the temptation to use his TARDIS for fear of it being what the Axis wanted, also making sure that Anson did not know how worried he was about the changes to the timeline that allowed the occupation. When Joseph told him of the Daleks' involvement through a coded message, Braxiatel dematerialised his TARDIS and observed the fight, later using it to take the resistance to the control centre and attacking Isaac upon finding that he was still under Dalek control and was part of a plan to steal his ship. He built a device similar to a battle computer which Isaac used to destroy the Axis, after which Braxiatel returned him to the 1980s. (AUDIO: Death and the Daleks [+]Loading...["Death and the Daleks (audio story)"])

The restoration[[edit] | [edit source]]

With the Collection liberated and the Axis defeated, Braxiatel made new alliances and arrangements with the nearby civilisations, who ensured that the Collection would be protected in the future. (AUDIO: Death and the Daleks [+]Loading...["Death and the Daleks (audio story)"]) As Mr Crofton had died during the occupation, Braxiatel hired Veronica Bland as the new gardener and fell in love with her due to her powers. The two were soon engaged until, at the wedding, Braxiatel realised that he was being controlled and turned everyone against her, causing her to wither away. (AUDIO: Braxiatel in Love [+]Loading...["Braxiatel in Love (audio story)"]) He then persuaded Hass to take on the job. (PROSE: ...Be Forgot [+]Loading...["...Be Forgot (short story)"])

Braxiatel was concerned when Irinidoi Saluja came to the Collection following his daughter Reep's death and, when seventeen people put forth claims for compensation following their relatives' deaths on the Collection, he accepted that they would have to pay up. Benny found out that Saluja had actually sent a robot and was planning on getting Braxiatel to admit liability for the deaths, which did not come to pass. (AUDIO: Benny and the Grieving Man [+]Loading...["Benny and the Grieving Man (short story)"])

Braxiatel with his colleagues. (PROSE: A Life Worth Living)

By Christmas, the Collection was almost fully rebuilt. He threw a party with tacky decorations and, in his office, found that the Eighth Doctor had left him a pair of socks, signed "Thete". (PROSE: ...Be Forgot [+]Loading...["...Be Forgot (short story)"]) In April, Braxiatel invited students to the Collection so that everybody would start to relax, giving them made-up traditions to rebel against. (PROSE: Misplaced Spring [+]Loading...["Misplaced Spring (short story)"]) He later held the First Annual Braxiatel Collection Archaeology Conference and wondered if the academic setting was too restrictive for Benny. (PROSE: Final Draft [+]Loading...["Final Draft (short story)"])

Braxiatel purchased a planetoid at auction and sent Bev to collect items from its surface before it was destroyed. He relented and agreed to Benny's suggestion that they celebrate Christmas early after she threatened him with carols, gifting Benny, Jason and Bev with engraved pendants. He, Benny and Jason destroyed the Verphidiae weapon that Bev assembled with blasters and he later sent Bev to get rid of all the items she had recovered. (AUDIO: Signifiers of the Verphidiae [+]Loading...["Signifiers of the Verphidiae (audio story)"])

Learning from the Draconians that something was coming for the Collection, Braxiatel contacted his past self on Gallifrey and had him send him a Gallifreyan crystal. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Crystal of Cantus [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Crystal of Cantus (audio story)"]) He brought Ronan McGinley to the Collection to help Clarissa Jones move on from Bernard Moskof, (PROSE: A Summer Affair [+]Loading...["A Summer Affair (short story)"]) after which he turned him into a Cyberman and took him to Cantus, the Gallifreyan crystal allowing Ronan to control and manipulate the Cybermen to defend the Collection. Braxiatel was aware, however, that the crystal would slowly kill him. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Crystal of Cantus [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Crystal of Cantus (audio story)"])

Braxiatel refused to cancel Stamis's speech when Benny asked him to, saying that it would make him no better than the Axis, and instead told her to convince Stamis not to give it. (PROSE: Denial [+]Loading...["Denial (short story)"]) He showed Benny Dr Kardom's body and presumed that he had been killed by the poisonous book that Benny acquired, although this was later found to be untrue. (PROSE: The Blame of the Nose [+]Loading...["The Blame of the Nose (short story)"]) As part of a plan to acquire a set of statues, Braxiatel gave Benny time off to spend with Jason and sent Bev to Viveka instead, eventually resulting in the statues being removed to the Collection. (PROSE: Reparation [+]Loading...["Reparation (short story)"]) He informed Benny of a complaint that he received about her hacking a satellite. (PROSE: Buried Alive [+]Loading...["Buried Alive (short story)"])

Marlow, an old friend of Braxiatel, left him a number of artefacts in the event of his death. He had Benny investigate after Jason was accused of killing Marlow's wife, Brenda, and it was eventually found that they had faked their deaths. During this time, Braxiatel was facing criticism due to the statue debacle. (PROSE: Nothing Up My Sleeve [+]Loading...["Nothing Up My Sleeve (short story)"]) He set up a conference on war and conflict which Benny argued against due to the Axis occupation having ended less than two years prior, unaware that Braxiatel intended to allow speaker Ovmakh to dig for Axis tech for him to acquire. (PROSE: Mentioning the War [+]Loading...["Mentioning the War (short story)"])

Braxiatel sent Benny to Jegg-Sau to search for Richard Eliot Whitman's "treasures". (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Relics of Jegg-Sau [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Relics of Jegg-Sau (audio story)"]) He visited Earth when invited by old friend Matthew Barrister, who told him about the murders related to the Purpura Pawn and asked for a loan for his gambling debts. (PROSE: The Purpura Pawn [+]Loading...["The Purpura Pawn (short story)"]) To cover up his involvement in the Purpura affair and the deaths of Kristoffa Tailor's parents, he had a waiter poison Krostoffa and Clare Marsh before putting the waiter into a coma with a migraine. (PROSE: On Trial [+]Loading...["On Trial (short story)"])

Braxiatel removed the copy of The Masquerade of Death that Benny recovered as he suspected that it was dangerous and believed that someone had tried to kill her. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield in the Masquerade of Death [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield in the Masquerade of Death (audio story)"]) He told Benny that it was impossible to contact Ronan when she asked him asked him to do so for Ms Jones's sake (PROSE: Parallel Lives (I)) and objected to her going after Ms Jones when she left. (PROSE: The Serpent's Tooth [+]Loading...["The Serpent's Tooth (short story)"]) He later sent Jason after Benny, telling him that he did not want Peter to see his mother kill someone, (PROSE: Parallel Lives (II)) and told Bev that she had done the right thing when she shot and killed Ms Jones to save Adrian. (PROSE: Parallel Lives (IV))

History machine and departure[[edit] | [edit source]]

At some point, Braxiatel became aware of the possibility of the Deindum attempting to take control of the energy field in the Collection's area of space. He learnt that Benny would die after falling through a space-time fissure to Deindus and that her genetic material and memories would play a significant role in the Deindum's development into an aggressive, time-travelling empire. Whilst his original plan was to wipe the Deindum from existence, he ensured that Benny was kept alive should his plans fail. (AUDIO: Resurrecting the Past [+]Loading...["Resurrecting the Past (audio story)"])

Braxiatel invited Doggles to the Collection with his history machine, which activated (PROSE: Inappropriate Laughter [+]Loading...["Inappropriate Laughter (short story)"]) and created multiple timelines. (PROSE: Siege Mentality [+]Loading...["Siege Mentality (short story)"], etc.) Braxiatel shifted through the realities trying to find a way to stop the fracture, trying to convince his alternative selves to detonate reality bombs to slow the phenomenon. (PROSE: Family Man [+]Loading...["Family Man (short story)"])

One Braxiatel created a reality bomb which Benny kept him from detonating. (PROSE: Siege Mentality [+]Loading...["Siege Mentality (short story)"]) Another learnt from Wolsey that either Braxiatel or Doggles had to die, leading him to attempt to kill Doggles and hypnotise Adrian into killing Bev, later killing Jason and Wolsey. Unbeknownst to this Braxiatel, Wolsey's plan was to get Benny to realise what he was really like. (PROSE: Dead Mice [+]Loading...["Dead Mice (short story)"])

A third Braxiatel was more interested in his mirror than with Peter's illness (PROSE: Acts of Senseless Devotion [+]Loading...["Acts of Senseless Devotion (short story)"]) and another, in a world in which Benny died, fixated on a feud with the Martians. (PROSE: Night of the Living Martian [+]Loading...["Night of the Living Martian (short story)"]) Other Braxiatels tried to use a world-destroying statue, (PROSE: Showing Initiative [+]Loading...["Showing Initiative (short story)"]) identified Benny as Doggles' murderer (PROSE: A Murderous Desire [+]Loading...["A Murderous Desire (short story)"]) and met an older version of himself who tried to convince him to build a bomb. However, Benny shot and killed the elder, after which the younger hypnotised her into forgetting. (PROSE: One of My Turns [+]Loading...["One of My Turns (short story)"]) In another world, a Braxiatel built and installed a reality bomb into the Collection's power generators (PROSE: The Ice Garden [+]Loading...["The Ice Garden (short story)"])

In another world, Braxiatel met a human version of himself who had two children and told him to destroy his world. Irving eventually did so, after which Braxiatel realised at Benny and Doggles' wedding that the latter's death would resolve the situation as he had Axis technology inside him which drove him to create the machine. He cut off Doggles's head, severing the link between the history machine and Braxiatel's TARDIS which was close to ending the universe. (PROSE: Family Man [+]Loading...["Family Man (short story)"]) In the restored world, only Braxiatel could remember that, before the debacle, Hass was an Ice Warrior and not a Yesodi. (PROSE: After Life [+]Loading...["After Life (short story)"])

Braxiatel and Benny on Cantus. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Crystal of Cantus [+]Loading...["Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Crystal of Cantus (audio story)"])

Aware that Ronan was dying, Braxiatel manipulated Jason into going to Cantus with him, not telling him that he planned for Jason to replace Ronan as Cyber-Leader. However, Benny stowed away on board their ship, something that Braxiatel dealt with by ensuring that she felt the need to return to Peter. Braxiatel made Jason the Cyber-Leader when Ronan died, his last words warning him that Pandora was still in his mind, but Benny saved him and they returned to the Collection together where Jason, his memories returned, threatened Braxiatel into leaving. He departed in his TARDIS. (AUDIO: The Crystal of Cantus [+]Loading...["The Crystal of Cantus (audio story)"])

Requiring some time on standby and being, according to legend, on his death bed, Braxiatel travelled back in time and paid an ascetic to transmute him into crystal, ensuring that he would be preserved. He remained within the crystal, which became known as the Stone of Barter, for more than three thousand years. (AUDIO: The Empire State [+]Loading...["The Empire State (audio story)"])

Return[[edit] | [edit source]]

Braxiatel was freed by Saf in 2607, having been convinced by Benny, who was travelling with Braxiatel's daughter Maggie Matsumoto, to do so. (AUDIO: The Empire State [+]Loading...["The Empire State (audio story)"]) He placed himself inside a null-field casket during their journey to the Collection in order to protect himself and showed no empathy after Maggie became anchorite for the Gravity Rainbow. However, Maggie heard him in a dream asking her if there was any way for her to get out and telling her to be careful. (AUDIO: The Tub Full of Cats [+]Loading...["The Tub Full of Cats (audio story)"])

Back on the Collection, Braxiatel locked himself away in his study and directed the restoration of the security systems, claiming that he would be leaving once it was done. He was distracted, however, by the matter of the Judas Gift attached to Bev, giving the Draconians the opportunity to invade, and later deleted Bev's message warning Benny that somebody was using them. (AUDIO: The Judas Gift [+]Loading...["The Judas Gift (audio story)"]) He told Benny that he was negotiating Adrian's release, after which she accused him of having an angle on the war and disappeared.

Braxiatel encouraged the Draconians to believe that Benny was behind the acts of resistance against them and ensured that they were infected with the Harvey Virus, causing them to hallucinate and become obsessed with her. He secretly put an end to the war between them and the Mim by convincing Hass to wipe out the entire Mimsphere and framing the Draconians. After this, Kothar informed Braxiatel that the Collection would be allowed sovereignty but would be considered part of Draconian space and would receive the Empire's protection. (AUDIO: Freedom of Information [+]Loading...["Freedom of Information (audio story)"])

When Jason confronted Braxiatel about messing around with the past and future, Braxiatel admitted that he removed Keith and Rebecca Kane-Summerfield from the timeline as they would have taken up too much of Benny's time and he needed her at his side and also confessed to a number of other alterations including the Draconian-Mim War. (AUDIO: The End of the World [+]Loading...["The End of the World (audio story)"]) As Jason threatened to involve Braxiatel's people and Braxiatel knew that he would soon be recruited by the Deindum, (AUDIO: Escaping the Future [+]Loading...["Escaping the Future (audio story)"]) He told Peter that Jason was planning on killing his mother and everyone on the Collection and manipulated him into kill Jason. As Jason died, Braxiatel told him that he was never good enough for Benny. (AUDIO: The End of the World [+]Loading...["The End of the World (audio story)"])

Braxiatel had hoped that by having Peter kill Jason, he could bind Benny and Peter to him. (AUDIO: Escaping the Future [+]Loading...["Escaping the Future (audio story)"]) Braxiatel comforted Benny upon her return to the Collection and attempted to manipulate Bernice to bring her closer to him, having Doggles attempt to rape her so that he could save her. He regained dominance of the Collection through a puppet government and, after Benny rejected Braxiatel and fled with Peter, he decided not to send robots after her as he knew that she would always return. (AUDIO: The Wake [+]Loading...["The Wake (audio story)"])

Wanting to keep an eye on Benny, Braxiatel went to great lengths to have her Time Ring restored through events which seemed entirely disconnected from him so that he could use it to observe her. (AUDIO: Escaping the Future [+]Loading...["Escaping the Future (audio story)"])

Deindum and downfall[[edit] | [edit source]]

Braxiatel once asked Benny to paint him which he used to keep as part of his vault in the Vingus Bank. The bank staff were clones of him for security reasons. (AUDIO: Glory Days [+]Loading...["Glory Days (audio story)"])

Braxiatel's reasons for setting up the Collection where he did were later revealed to be due to the location of a great temporal leak depositing enough power to fuel a hundred colonies, or perhaps even bring back his own people. He began to syphon the leak, moving it to the planet Maximediras which he had just purchased following the failure of its economy, thinking it could potentially become a new homeworld for his people. (AUDIO: Resurrecting the Past [+]Loading...["Resurrecting the Past (audio story)"]) Whilst plotting to restore his people he became aware of the Deindum, a species in the future who would learn the secret of time travel and could rival his own people. He attempted to prevent their creation using Frost but was ironically stopped by the involvement of Bernice Summerfield and Robyn, an android created by this race and sent back in time to ensure their creation. (AUDIO: Secret Origins [+]Loading...["Secret Origins (audio story)"])

His reasons for keeping such a close eye on Bernice Summerfield, and tampering with her personal history, were revealed when it appeared she was destined to fall through a portal in time and become instrumental in the creation of the Deindum. Unable to prevent their creation Braxiatel, with the help of Doggles, planned to turn them into less aggressive creatures by altering the genetic material they would be based on. However, due to the actions of Robyn and Hass, Bernice was prevented from falling through the portal at all, leaving the Deindum a far more aggressive and paranoid species than before. (AUDIO: Resurrecting the Past [+]Loading...["Resurrecting the Past (audio story)"]) The Deindum travelled back and began a full-scale invasion of the galaxy in order to protect their own history and ensure their creation. Keen at first to fight off these enemies of his own people, Braxiatel led a galaxy-wide resistance against the Deindum, although he eventually lost faith in his abilities and surrendered to his defeat. (PROSE: Present Danger [+]Loading...["Present Danger (short story)"])

Braxiatel was captured and tortured by the Deindum, before being rescued from the Deindum mothership by Bernice Summerfield. She finally confronted him with the death of Jason, and he explained that Jason was about to be used against him by the Deindum. He expressed no guilt for his actions, except that he had failed in his mission and brought about the Deindum's creation. When Bernice offered him an alternative solution he expressed interest, and finally (begrudgingly) apologised for Jason's death. He and Bernice began to engage in a personal time war against the Deindum, engineering a plan to prevent them from ever having existed. The plan worked, although just before its conclusion Braxiatel was shot by a Deindum soldier. (AUDIO: Escaping the Future [+]Loading...["Escaping the Future (audio story)"])

Survival[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Irving who lived on Legion told Benny that he was unsure if her Braxiatel had survived, but he could not sense him as Time Lords could one another. (AUDIO: Everybody Loves Irving [+]Loading...["Everybody Loves Irving (audio story)"]) However, he met with Braxiatel in secret on a world beneath a burning sky, knowing that Benny would kill him if she knew, and handed him a WonderBox 3000 containing the Great Shifting Wurm. By the 40th century, the Braxiatel Collection was located near the Heletians' territory (PROSE: Theatre of War [+]Loading...["Theatre of War (novel)"]) and was being run by another version of Braxiatel. (AUDIO: Many Happy Returns [+]Loading...["Many Happy Returns (audio story)"]) He knew that Bernice Summerfield had asked a separate version of him to give her a warning about Jason Kane's apparent death at her wedding, unaware at the time that it was Kebara in Jason's form who had died. (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle [+]Loading...["Tears of the Oracle (novel)"])

Threatened by the advance of the Heletians in 3980, Braxiatel built ruins of a false civilisation on Menaxus and planted the dream machine for the Heletians to find and return to Heletia where it would help the Rippeareans invade. However, the chaos that the machine caused scared the Heletians away before they could find it. However, the course of the war changed and the plan became unnecessary. (PROSE: Theatre of War [+]Loading...["Theatre of War (novel)"])

When his old friend Professor Rhukk requested funding for an expedition also funded by the University of Pakhar to locate the Ancient Diadem, Braxiatel agreed provided the Collection was given full access to its findings. He later informed Rhukk of High Lord Savaar's apparent murder and offered his condolences, although Savaar was actually alive. (PROSE: Legacy [+]Loading...["Legacy (novel)"])

In 3985, Braxiatel met Benny when she visited the Collection and surmised from her research ticket that she knew his brother. He told Benny to pass on a message telling the Doctor, in his seventh incarnation, explaining his plan and offering an alternative and arranged for her to travel there in a delta dart. The plan was successful, with the Heletian threat being neutralised and the Exec being killed by Camarina Lannic, who the Doctor speculated was Braxiatel's agent; Braxiatel then met with the acting-Exec to discuss surrender. (PROSE: Theatre of War [+]Loading...["Theatre of War (novel)"])

Braxiatel went to Cheldon Bonniface for Benny and Jason's wedding on 24 April 2010 and was reunited with the Doctor, with whom he played a game of cricket. When the Tremas Master attacked, he did not take his eyes off of Braxiatel or William Blake, one of the many guests that Braxiatel recognised. He spoke with Benny after the wedding, asking about how well she actually knew her husband and joking that, as an archaeologist, she would be more interested in him the older he got. (PROSE: Happy Endings [+]Loading...["Happy Endings (novel)"]) This was his way of warning her of Jason's apparent death. (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle [+]Loading...["Tears of the Oracle (novel)"])

Following the reboot of the universe and the apparent death of the Braxiatel of Dellah in the 27th century, the Collection disappeared (PROSE: Adorable Illusion [+]Loading...["Adorable Illusion (novel)"]) and came to be run by other people, leaving the fate of this Braxiatel uncertain in the new world. (AUDIO: The Curse of Fenman [+]Loading...["The Curse of Fenman (audio story)"])

Other Braxiatels[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Braxiatel who would later go to Legion got one of his future selves, who was more adept at hypnosis than he was, to put a mind lock on Romana I to bury Pandora's influence on her. (AUDIO: Lies [+]Loading...["Lies (audio story)"])

Saving Gallifrey[[edit] | [edit source]]

After Omega's return, Braxiatel used his TARDIS to save Romana from her dead Type 160, inadvertently leaving Narvin and Ace behind. (AUDIO: Intervention Earth [+]Loading...["Intervention Earth (audio story)"]) War broke out on Gallifrey and, to avert it, Romana sent Braxiatel back in time to prevent her regeneration on the Moros and stop the Adherents of Ohm before they could enact their plans. He saved Romana and Leela and took them back to Gallifrey.

Braxiatel and Romana shared a concern that the timeline that they had averted might reassert itself, leading Braxiatel to suggest that she send Ace away and resign as President of the High Council, which Romana agreed to consider despite being uncertain that he had indeed come from the future. He decided to stay on Gallifrey as long as he was needed and was hired by Livia as liaison to the CIA. After the timeline was changed once again, Romana resigned and the Watchmaker took Braxiatel to find his true path and resolve the matter of his multiple lives on Dellah, Legion and the Braxiatel Collection. The Last Great Time War[[edit] | [edit source]]

Braxiatel and Ace during the Time War. (AUDIO: Soldier Obscura [+]Loading...["Soldier Obscura (audio story)"])

The long standing tensions between the Time Lords and Dalek Empire finally broke out into the Last Great Time War. (PROSE: Meet the Doctor [+]Loading...["Meet the Doctor (DWAN 2006 short story)"]) After the declaration of war, Braxiatel asked Coordinator Romana for her permission to go on a field mission with Ace to gain vital intelligence for the war. (AUDIO: Celestial Intervention [+]Loading...["Celestial Intervention (audio story)"])

He told Ace they were going to the Obscura, an old battlefield, where he claimed a weapon was stored in a station guarded by his old mentor Danna. They discovered Daleks had already started infiltrating the station, being immobilised by Danna and he was concerned when one of the wounded Dalek drones started to transmit. He showed the Dalek in the hold the picture of the Obscura and it screamed. In truth he was leaking information about the Obscura deliberately to bring the Daleks there as a trap, planning for Danna to fire a perfect shot to trigger the Dalek Fleet's destruction. He’d been planning this trick for some time, as he’d known that the Time War was going to happen from the scarred soldier who told him about the Obscura in his youth came from a battle in this war, not an ancient one. She revealed that she couldn’t make the shot due to her advanced age and with the Daleks approaching he killed her to stop her being a liability. Upon their arrival he tried to deceive the Daleks that Ace was the secret weapon, stalling long enough to open the station’s shutters on the Daleks and they saw the true power of the Obscura. With their eyes closed, he sent Ace back to their TARDIS while he returned to the control room to ensure the station’s destruction took the Dalek fleet with it. He was taunted by Danna's voice, though was unsure if that was his guilt or an effect of the Obscura. Ace overheard his confessions to Danna via the scanner and confronted him in the TARDIS, furiously denouncing him as a coward. In fury he showed Ace his mind and all the terrible things he’d done in his life. Following this, he wiped her mind of Gallifrey and the War and left her on 20th century Earth, saying that he would check on her from time to time. He then fled the War, sending a message to Gallifrey that invasion was imminent. (AUDIO: Soldier Obscura [+]Loading...["Soldier Obscura (audio story)"]) Afterwards he meddled in Ace's timeline as far back as her travels with the Doctor, which resulted in Narvin being unable to track either of them down. (AUDIO: Assassins [+]Loading...["Assassins (audio story)"])

Braxiatel monitored Romana using a backdoor channel he'd left behind in a failed attempt to negotiate with the Dalek Emperor. He returned to the war to rescue Narvin from the Project Revenant facility in the midst of Dalek invasion. He returned Narvin to Gallifrey with a message for Romana. In the message he reflected that the Time War was always going to happen and the Doctor was right to abandon the war like he had and that Romana should too. (AUDIO: Desperate Measures [+]Loading...["Desperate Measures (audio story)"])

Fate[[edit] | [edit source]]

This section's awfully stubby.

He's Behind You (short story)

Eventually Braxiatel journeyed into the Beyond and spent many years stabilising a possible timeline where the Daleks did not exist and making a gateway to it so he could escape the Time War there. The gateway became known as the Parallax.

A younger version of Braxiatel learned of the Parallax, believing it to be a weapon capable of totally erasing the Daleks. Despite the alleged cost of every world the Daleks had ever invaded, he believed he could use it to end the Time War. Hearing that a second Time Lord was required activate the Parallax, (AUDIO: Beyond [+]Loading...["Beyond (audio story)"]) he rescued Romana from the Daleks on Unity (AUDIO: Dissolution [+]Loading...["Dissolution (audio story)"]) and took her with him into the Beyond.

Braxiatel and Romana travelled through an alternate timeline within the Beyond, going deeper in search of the Parallax and being pursued by the Ravenous. Romana eventually forced him to reveal what he thought the Parallax did and was horrified by the civilisations it would erase along with the Daleks. They were rescued from the Ravenous by the older version of Braxiatel, who revealed the truth about the Parallax. The younger Braxiatel was infuriated by his older self’s cowardice and resolved to return to the Time War. As he tried to return to his TARDIS the Ravenous attacked, having been attracted by the paradox of the two Braxiatels meeting, and consumed him. The temporal energy within him overwhelmed and killed them. After Romana declined his offer to join him and used his TARDIS to return to the normal universe, the older Braxiatel passed through the Parallax to the timeline without Daleks. (AUDIO: Beyond [+]Loading...["Beyond (audio story)"])

After the Time War ended with the loss of Gallifrey, the Ninth Doctor believed that his entire family had died, (TV: Father's Day [+]Loading...["Father's Day (TV story)"], The Empty Child [+]Loading...["The Empty Child (TV story)"]) and the Tenth Doctor would outright tell Martha Jones that he no longer had a brother, (TV: Smith and Jones [+]Loading...["Smith and Jones (TV story)"]) with one account claiming that the Doctor's brother had died as a result of the Doctor bringing an end to the Time War by destroying both the Time Lords and the Daleks. (PROSE: Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia [+]Loading...["Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia (2007 reference book)"]) Even after learning that Gallifrey had not been destroyed, (TV: The Day of the Doctor [+]Loading...["The Day of the Doctor (TV story)"]) the Thirteenth Doctor told her soon to be companions that her entire family had died a long time prior, (TV: The Woman Who Fell to Earth [+]Loading...["The Woman Who Fell to Earth (TV story)"]) with the Fifteenth Doctor maintaining this belief following the Time Lord genocide. Alternate timelines[[edit] | [edit source]]

In a timeline in which Benny and Jason remarried and had children, Benny found Braxiatel in the wine cellars of a monastery on Old Earth, long after he had employed anyone at the Collection. He told her that he never had a brother so that everyone would believe that the Doctor was dead. (PROSE: The Shape of the Hole [+]Loading...["The Shape of the Hole (short story)"])

In an alternate timeline accessible via the Axis, Braxiatel was killed by his brother, the Doctor. (AUDIO: Disassembled [+]Loading...["Disassembled (audio story)"])

In another alternate timeline accessible via the Axis, Braxiatel was once a comrade of the True Lords in their fight against the Great Vampires. The True Lords learnt they could create beast-like warriors, which they called "hounds", by harvesting and drinking vampire blood. Braxiatel volunteered to subject himself to the process and lost his sense of self. He was the oldest and most docile of the hounds. (AUDIO: Annihilation [+]Loading...["Annihilation (audio story)"])

In another alternate timeline accessible via the Axis, Braxiatel was a minor councillor of the Inner Council under Supreme Leader Romana. Braxiatel was present at her assassination, after which he was interviewed by Commentator Theta Sigma. (AUDIO: Forever [+]Loading...["Forever (audio story)"]) The Romana of the proper timeline considered him "oily" compared to their Braxiatel. However, Narvin wondered how she could tell the difference. Lord Zakar referred to him as a "worm." (AUDIO: Arbitration [+]Loading...["Arbitration (audio story)"]) When the Daleks invaded Gallifrey, Braxiatel attempted to bargain with them to survive. They exterminated him after finding records that the "Irving Braxiatel" from their universe had betrayed them. This Braxiatel did not recognise the name "Irving". (AUDIO: Extermination [+]Loading...["Extermination (audio story)"])

Personality[[edit] | [edit source]]

In his youth, Braxiatel was overconfident. (PROSE: The Empire of Glass [+]Loading...["The Empire of Glass (novel)"], AUDIO: The 100 Days of the Doctor [+]Loading...["The 100 Days of the Doctor (audio story)"]) He had a great interest in the universe and strove to gather as much knowledge as he could from it. (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle [+]Loading...["Tears of the Oracle (novel)"]) The Doctor referred to Braxiatel as "an occasional collaborator in adventures of the mind, the soul and the body".
