The B.O Bank Holiday Special! (short story)
The B.O Bank Holiday Special!, also known as Vince Cosmos TV Interview from 1972! was a short story published online as a tie-in to Vince Cosmos: Glam Rock Detective. It took the form of the transcript of a fictional interview between Bryan Only and Vince Cosmos on BBC2's The Bryan Only Show on the August bank holiday in 1972.
Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]
Vince Cosmos performs his new song "Nefarious" on The Bryan Only Show. Bryan surprises Vincent by showing a black and white recording of Vince's first appearance on the show in 1968, when he was a protest singer named "Aloysius Elven Wishbone" who was promoting his first record, "Pixies All Around Me".
The embarrassed Vince explains that the song is expunged from his back catalogue and denies rumours that his old record company would re-release his old material. "I'm in a different place these days, Bryan. I don't do that pixie stuff no more."
The live audience periodically interrupts the conversation with screams.
Characters[[edit] | [edit source]]
Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Bryan describes Vince's clothing as "like an eighteenth century dandy, crossed with something from outer space."
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- On the release of the story on Paul Magrs' blog, an image of Russell Harty is used to represent Bryan Only.
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Vince developed a concept album based around J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, but he couldn't obtain the rights, so it turned into a novelty song about pixies. (PROSE: Biography)
