Fifth Doctor

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
Revision as of 22:37, 23 January 2023 by OncomingStorm12th (talk | contribs)
This article needs a big cleanup.

As detailed at Thread:264489, to avoid overly long articles, highly-recurring character pages' biography should only have AT MOST 2-3 sentences per story, not whole paragraphs of plot detail. This page needs a major cleanup in that area.

These problems might be so great that the article's factual accuracy has been compromised. Talk about it here or check the revision history or Manual of Style for more information.

Youthful in mind, manner and appearance, the Fifth Doctor expressed an interest in all things Victorian and Edwardian: cricket, tea, fair play, good manners, and a keen interest in science and exploration.

He was also a sensitive and profusely humane incarnation of the Doctor, who did not make himself an imposition, preferring to be honest reserved, and honourable. However, the Doctor was also less willing to do what he thought was immoral, and became highly conflicted about what choices he could make in a crisis that were truly right. His hesitancy made him seemingly more fallible than many other incarnations, making those around him wonder if he was capable of resolving difficult situations. Nevertheless, he was one of the most overtly fearless incarnations, and frequently found himself right in the thick of battle.

Like his first two incarnations, the Doctor often travelled with multiple companions. However, his TARDIS was rarely as harmonious as those of his predecessors. Instead, he frequently found himself stuck between Tegan Jovanka's pessimism and Adric's arrogance or Turlough's antagonism. Stuck in the middle with him was usually Nyssa, who regularly had to stand as a voice of reason. Even after he seemingly was settled on just having one companion, he and Peri Brown found another companion, a pharaoh from Egypt called Erimem, and the Doctor once again slid into the role of the oft-maligned chaperone.

During his final adventure, the Doctor accidentally exposed himself and Peri to unrefined spectrox, contracting fatal spectrox toxaemia. Though he acquired an antidote, the Doctor had only enough for one person; he gave it to Peri. Not knowing if the disease could kill Time Lords for good, the Doctor gambled on regeneration saving his life, successfully regenerating into a new body after experiencing a vision of the Master and his former companions.

Biography

A day to come

This section's awfully stubby.

Info from Freedom needs to be added

The First Doctor would occasionally have premonitions of his future incarnations, (PROSE: A Big Hand for the Doctor) and there was a rumour that he was able to glimpse his first seven regenerations during a game of Eighth Man Bound. (PROSE: Christmas on a Rational Planet, Lungbarrow) He once indicated he knew a future incarnation would enjoy cricket. (COMIC: A Religious Experience)

When the First Doctor learned that he was diverted from the South Pole by "forces from the future" to stop him from becoming an incarnation that would play a key role in a future conflict, he was informed by the Player that he would have "lots of new faces" before he regenerated into the incarnation involved in the conflict. (AUDIO: The Plague of Dreams)

Shortly before his regeneration, the First Doctor was told of "a few false starts" before he became the Twelfth Doctor. (TV: Twice Upon a Time)

The First Doctor was shown footage of the Fifth Doctor, as well as his ten other successors, by the Testimony when he expressed doubt over the Twelfth Doctor's identity. (TV: Twice Upon a Time)

When the history of Atkya changed, the Second Doctor discovered that one of his future incarnations had accidentally doomed the Atkyans when a stabilising agent to a cure he made for renepscia syndrome caused the metabolism of the Atkyans to speed up. (PROSE: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back)

While trying on new outfits after his third regeneration, the Fourth Doctor was worried he had regenerated again when he misunderstood Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart's comment about him having "changed". (TV: Robot)

After receiving a summons from Gallifrey, and telling Sarah Jane Smith that he had to leave her behind to answer it, Sarah Jane asked to Doctor if the summons meant he would regenerate again, to which he voiced his own uncertainty. (TV: The Hand of Fear)

During a reunion with Mike Yates in the early 21st century, the Fourth Doctor learned he had "changed, and changed again," when Yates commented on him being "back as [he] [was] in the seventies", despite hearing about the Doctor regenerating. (AUDIO: The Stuff of Nightmares)

After crashing the TARDIS on the way to Shada, the Fourth Doctor briefly believed he had regenerated. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen)

After seeing the Watcher in a dream, the Fourth Doctor thought of his next incarnation. (PROSE: Into the Silent Land)

Post-regeneration

The Doctor, immediately after his fourth regeneration. (TV: Logopolis)

After being severely injured from falling off the Pharos Project Radio Telescope, the Fourth Doctor merged with the Watcher and regenerated into his fifth incarnation. (TV: Logopolis) The regeneration proved to be a difficult one, nearly failing. His companions took him to the Zero Room to stabilise. While he was recovering (TV: Castrovalva) and entering into a hallucination, (PROSE: The Comet's Tail) a message came from Adric, whom the Tremas Master had abducted, saying the TARDIS was heading for Event One. The Doctor left Tegan and Nyssa instructions on how to escape by jettisoning rooms from the TARDIS.

Much of the Zero Room was jettisoned as a result and the Doctor, needing a peaceful place to continue his stabilisation, went to Castrovalva. After he had recovered, he learned the city was artificial, created by block transfer computations. The Master, in the guise of the Portreeve, had created the city with Adric's mind. The Doctor rescued Adric and the TARDIS crew fled Castrovalva as it collapsed in on itself, leaving the Master to be erased from existence with it. (TV: Castrovalva)

Early adventures

This section's awfully stubby.

Info from Resonance, & The Ingenious Gentleman Adric of Alzarius needs to be added

The Doctor and his companions visited what appeared to be a planet inhabited by highly unusual people, but eventually realised that they were on the Psychodrome, where their memories, desires and fears were being brought to life. One of their creations, Nyssa's twisted perception of the Doctor, mixed with her own thoughts on her lost father and the Master, named King Magus, who planned to use the memories of the TARDIS crew to conquer his world, but they managed to escape. (AUDIO: Psychodrome)

Visiting a colony in the 28th century to replace what had been jettisoned from the TARDIS, the Doctor was thrown in front of a train by Roz Forrester in order to stall the train. After joining a scientific mission, the Doctor encountered his seventh incarnation, and the two fought the misguided Ferutu together. (PROSE: Cold Fusion) Afterwards, the Doctor and his companions spent Christmas with Iris Wildthyme. (AUDIO: Excelis Dawns)

When Nyssa discovered the TARDIS was running low on food, the Doctor took the TARDIS to a supermarket to restock. However, the Tremas Master had set up a trap at the supermarket by turning it into a maze, but the Doctor was able to lead Adric, Nyssa and Tegan out of the maze by marking their trail with frozen peas. (PROSE: Dr. Fifth)

The Doctor visited the planet Isopterus, which he found to be overrun by giant termites. He freed the surviving humanoid inhabitants held captive in the termites' nests and took them to freedom on a safe planet. (COMIC: On the Planet Isopterus)

The Doctor was next reunited with his old friend, Edward Grainger, who had a new-born baby boy. Adric was taken over by a complex computer entity, attacking the Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa and kidnapping Edward's son to create a new body for itself. The Doctor uploaded the computer entity into the TARDIS systems and transported it to Otho, the second moon of Liberius, blocking its control over Adric and Edward's son. (PROSE: First Born)

Attempts to return to Heathrow

This section's awfully stubby.

Info from Sock Pig and God of War needs to be added

The Doctor attempts to reach his TARDIS. (TV: Four to Doomsday)

Setting off for more adventures, the Doctor was asked by Tegan to return her to 1981 London, as she had only entered his company by accident. The Doctor got the TARDIS to 1981, but in the wrong place: a Urbankan spaceship. The TARDIS crew stopped Monarch's scheme for time travel with cyborgs, even though the Doctor had to deal with Adric, who had allied himself with Monarch. Afterwards, Nyssa, who was greatly weakened after almost being converted into a cyborg, collapsed. (TV: Four to Doomsday)

While Nyssa rested in the TARDIS, the Doctor, Adric and Tegan visited the planet Deva Loka. While Tegan slept in a peaceful location, the Doctor and Adric were arrested by Commander Sanders, who was undergoing a nervous breakdown. With an artefact known as the Box of Jhana provided by the Kinda, Deva Loka's natural inhabitants, they managed to restore his mind. The Doctor then discovered that a malevolent entity known as the Mara had used Tegan to possess a male from the Kinda tribe. Using mirrors, the Doctor was able to force the Mara out, leaving it to perish. He then helped with asking the exploration team to leave Deva Loka. (TV: Kinda)

Another attempt to return Tegan home saw the Doctor land his TARDIS at Heathrow in 1666. The locals accused the Doctor of carrying the plague and hunted him and his friends down, until they were saved by Richard Mace. Allied with Mace, the Doctor and his companions found the Terileptils were enhancing the plague in carrier rats to rid the planet of humans so they could take over. In stopping them, the Doctor had his sonic screwdriver destroyed and accidentally caused the Great Fire of London. (TV: The Visitation) The Doctor decided not to replace his sonic screwdriver, despite its usefulness. (TV: Snakedance)

After experiencing a strange dream, the Doctor found that the TARDIS had materialised on a space station orbiting the planet Dymok, which he soon learned had been created by the Celestial Toymaker to help him find a replacement host for him, now that Rallon was dying. Although the Toymaker attempted to sow discord between the Doctor and his companions, they rallied themselves in time to help the Dymova disrupt the Toymaker's link with Rallon, allowing Rallon to expel the Toymaker from his body by triggering all twelve of his regenerations at once. The Toymaker was subsequently delayed when Rallon's Watcher merged with the Toymaker to keep him in check in the future. (PROSE: Divided Loyalties)

The Doctor visited eastern Europe in the early 11th century, where he tried to help the people of Udilf's town defend themselves against Czar U'thai's forces. The Doctor disapproved of Adric introducing the longbow to Udilf's people, knowing how many deaths the weapon would cause in the future. (PROSE: The Immortals)

Hearing alarms warning about spatial anomalies, the Doctor rushed to a room in a distant corner of the TARDIS without explaining to Adric and Tegan what was going on. There, they found Nyssa lying on the floor with a jewel. Once Nyssa awakened, the Doctor explained that the jewel was a communication node that the Master had given to Susan Foreman, and the Master, during the old days on Gallifrey, had tried using the node to telepathically contact Nyssa to find where the Doctor was. The Doctor explained that the node was hidden among other volatile bits and pieces in that TARDIS room so that the Master and the Time Lords couldn't follow the First Doctor and Susan. (AUDIO: The Toy)

Still trying to get Tegan home, the Doctor answered a psionic distress call from Harry Houdini, who needed his help to stop a fortune teller in 1920s England. However, he found Houdini had been manipulated by the Master, who tried to have the Doctor and his friends killed. But the Doctor managed to stop his revenge plan. Whilst there, he was contacted by his eleventh incarnation, who needed him to return an Ovid sphere to its race. (AUDIO: Smoke and Mirrors)

The Doctor decided to teach Adric how to pilot the TARDIS. When Adric failed a test flight, the Doctor took the TARDIS crew to Gallius Ultima to teach them more about astronomy, but he miscalculated the landing. He went with Fell on a mission to find out what happened to the humans' spaceship in the Larger Magellanic Cloud and discovered the Star Men. The Doctor realised that Rovus was changing the timelines and warned him that if he tried to control the universe, people would attempt to stop him. (AUDIO: The Star Men)

The Doctor started to think that something was stopping him from getting back to Heathrow. When the TARDIS lost power, it landed in the Contingency Club. The Doctor was evicted from the club house and thought something was strange when the dimensions outside didn't match the dimension inside, it was much much larger on the outside, making him think that there was a hidden chamber inside. He learnt that the Red Queen was playing a game to take over the Earth with her brother, the Knave. (AUDIO: The Contingency Club)

The Doctor decided to start doing repairs on the TARDIS, but he had to stop as Adric tried to pilot the TARDIS. When Adric and Tegan disappeared, Nyssa and the Doctor followed their trace to Zaltys. They discovered a cryogenic storage ship. He encountered Gevaudan who had psychic powers. After being told by Adric that something was wrong with the trajectory of the meteor, he realised that it was being piloted. He learnt that the meteor was actually a Vampire ship piloted by Clarimonde. (AUDIO: Zaltys)

As part of Adric's pilot training, the Doctor showed him how to plot a course through the vortex, but there was a problem with the console. The Doctor and company landed on Cicero Prime shortly after this. He was arrested with Nyssa and taken to Sebastian thinking he would find Adric and Tegan there. He was mistaken to be the Scorpion. He didn't want to do the assassination but was later accused of it. He later tired to council the royal couple. The Doctor realised that Amelia and Tomek were the same people. He then tried to negotiate with the real Scorpion. (AUDIO: Kingdom of Lies)

The Doctor and his friends landed in Yorkshire in the 17th century following a distress call. He and Tegan found a sacrificial site and then found Adric and Nyssa cold and scared. He had to create a temporal field to relocate his friends to escape the creature, however Tegan stayed behind. By the 21st century he had apparently died and was able to communicate with Leanne. Sabaoth communicated with him after he sent Tegan into the future. He realised that his death wasn't confirmed and thought of him as Schroedinger's ghost, this was because he was actually in a healing coma. He was able to get his companions back from their deaths to help him stop Sabaoth. (AUDIO: Ghost Walk)[statement unclear]

Final adventures with Adric

This section's awfully stubby.

Info from The Last Action Figure, & In the TARDIS: Christmas Day needs to be added

The Doctor travelled to Argentia to collect the relevant crystals he needed to create a new sonic screwdriver. After being caught by Galgo, he had to pretend that he and his colleagues where there to attend the funeral of Carlo Mazzini. After a set of murders, he helped to investigate who did them. He interrogated Maria Mazzini, who was enamoured with him, but she died shortly afterwards. The Doctor was arrested for all the murders. After being locked in the cell, he worked out that Angelo Mazzini was the killer. (AUDIO: Serpent in the Silver Mask)

On a trip to Oxfordshire on 11 June 1925, the Doctor was mistaken for a cricket player summoned by Lord Charles Cranleigh. Helping Charles win a match, the Doctor and his friends were invited to a fancy-dress ball to celebrate, (TV: Black Orchid) where the Doctor partook in another game, only for the ball to be stolen by Ace. (COMIC: Time & Time Again) The Doctor's costume was stolen and used as a disguise during a murder, which led to the Doctor being framed by Lady Cranleigh for the crime. The Doctor cleared his name by revealing the TARDIS, and uncovering a Cranleigh family secret: Charles's supposedly deceased brother, George, who had been mentally and physically scarred by natives during a trip to find a rare flower, was the culprit. George kidnapped Nyssa, who was identical to his ex-fiancée, Ann, but the Doctor and Charles saved her. Unfortunately, George fell off the roof to his death when Charles moved in to hug his brother. (TV: Black Orchid)

The Doctor tried to replenish the TARDIS with artron energy, but instead arrived in the middle of a battle between the Rutans and the Sontarans. He, Adric, Nyssa and Tegan were captured by the Rutans and escaped, only to be captured by the Sontarans in turn. After the Doctor looked over their tactical position and discovered that they were doomed, the Sontarans returned him and his companions to the TARDIS, where the Doctor witnessed Adric, Nyssa and Tegan being abducted by Adam Mitchell, and realised that Adam had been in his past before. (COMIC: In Their Nature)

Following a chronal trail left by the Eleventh Doctor as the Tenth Doctor merged their TARDISes together, the Fifth Doctor joined his other incarnations as they stormed Adam's fortress in Limbo to save their friends from Adam and the Tremas Master. Though the Master attacked them with Autons, Frobisher was able to free the captured companions, and they helped the Doctors fight off the Autons, as Adam had a change of heart when the Master revealed he intended to use the chronal energies he had stolen across the Doctor's timelines to destroy the universe. After the Master killed Adam as he foiled his plans, the eleven Doctors honoured Adam as a "true companion". (COMIC: Endgame)

While Tegan and Nyssa went on a trip together, the Doctor took Adric to Vaga, a planet which he had visited before. Whilst there, they saved a populated Vagan spacecraft from a Pyron space-shark. (PROSE: The Key of Vaga) The Doctor and Adric visited Ixos-4, a planet of which he had heard some interesting stories. Whilst there, they helped rescue a pair of earwig-like aliens who had crash-landed there some years earlier. (PROSE: Planet of Fear)

When the Fourth Doctor used his TARDIS tuner to begin a temporal meta-collision with his other incarnations, the Fifth Doctor learnt that Earth was under threat from a pandimensional entity that had trapped his fourth incarnation in his TARDIS. While the Fifth Doctor argued with his other incarnations, the War Doctor used encoded messages from the Sixth Doctor to stop the invasion before it began, and the Sixth Doctor installed a way to expel the entity from the Fourth Doctor's TARDIS. With the crisis over, the Fifth Doctor went off to have his dinner. (WC: Doctors Assemble!)

When the TARDIS landed on Lemaria, the Doctor, Adric, Tegan and Nyssa found they had arrived on Freedom Day; a celebration of when the First Doctor and Susan Foreman freed the Lemarian people from the Megrati. Attending a play that was a re-enactment of the liberation, the Doctor noticed that the actor playing his first incarnation was a future incarnation, and then bore witness to his future self bluffing the Megrati into a retreat when they attempted a second invasion. (PROSE: The Constant Doctor)

When the TARDIS refused to land in a place with a dimensional anomaly, the Doctor went outside and found a damaged spaceship and encountered the Dar Traders, who claimed that the travellers were dead. The Doctor was stabbed by an assassin, but Nyssa helped him by transferring the energies from her Trakenite body and calcified the assassin. (AUDIO: The Darkening Eye)

When Adric's attempt to pilot the TARDIS caused the ship to land on Fleming's Island, the Doctor and his companions were forced to investigate the mystery of a vanished cult, which led to the discovery that the Cult had found a species of life-form that were essentially sentient numbers, represented as the I, the most impossible number in mathematics. Realising that the cult's actions had drawn in the I Predator and made it aware of N-Space, the Doctor and his companions destroyed the computers that had been used to trap the I and retreated to the TARDIS, cutting the I and its ilk off from existence. (AUDIO: Iterations of I)

After having a laugh with Tegan and Nyssa in the control room, (PROSE: The Boy Wonder) the Doctor took the TARDIS to an idyllic world, where he, Tegan and Nyssa spent the day relaxing, whilst Adric visited a glade filled with statues of countless races throughout the universe. He was tempted to transform into a statue, but the Doctor dragged him back to the TARDIS and the crew left the planet, leaving Adric resentful of the Doctor denying him the right to choose his own destiny. (PROSE: Hearts of Stone)

The Doctor and Adric work to disarm the bomb. (TV: Earthshock)

Adric became distant towards the Doctor, Nyssa and Tegan, causing him to request a return to E-Space, which the Doctor angrily denied out of fear that he would become trapped in the mini-universe again. Visiting Earth to cool off after their argument, the Doctor uncovered a plot by the Neomorph Cybermen to destroy Earth with a Cyber-bomb. After defusing it, he traced the Cybermen to Captain Briggs' space freighter, which they now plotted to use as a giant bomb.

As the freighter shifted through time to the distant past, Adric tried to stop the freighter by cracking logic codes on the ship's controls, but a surviving Cyberman destroyed the controls, causing the freighter to hit the Earth and kill the dinosaurs. Trapped on the freighter, Adric also died. Nyssa and Tegan were devastated, (TV: Earthshock) and the Doctor was haunted by his inability to save him for centuries, (COMIC: The Forgotten) leading him to swear that he would not allow another of his companions to die. (PROSE: Goth Opera)

Still recovering from losing Adric, the Doctor finally managed to return Tegan to Heathrow Airport in 1981, where they were recruited by C19 to investigate a missing Concorde. Taking a trip on another Concorde plane, they, along with the crew, were transported to 140,000,000 BC. They visited a Citadel populated by the previous Concorde passengers, where the Doctor encountered the Master, plotting to use the ancient Xeraphin gestalt as a power source for his TARDIS, which had been badly escaping Castrovalva. Stopping the Master from stealing parts of his own TARDIS, the Doctor abandoned him on Xeriphas to let the Xeraphins take their revenge.

After using his TARDIS to bring the Concorde back to 1981, the Doctor and Nyssa left without giving a farewell to Tegan and set off in the TARDIS once again. (TV: Time-Flight)

Lone travels with Nyssa

After a dimensional anomaly apparently resulted in the ghost of Adric appearing in the TARDIS, the Doctor tracked the accompanying dimensional anomaly to 1851, where Queen Victoria had just attended a séance performed by James Lees that put her in touch with her dead husband and told her of a door to the afterlife. The Doctor was able to convince Victoria to appoint him her scientific advisor and investigate the apparent door, learning that it was actually a dimensional anomaly to a world whose natives could assume the appearance of others. With the natives' impression of Earth coloured by the treatment "Lees" had received when he started having visions, the Doctor sealed the rift after rescuing the real Lees, the soldiers who had accompanied the Doctor sacrificing themselves to keep the natives back until the rift was closed. (PROSE: Empire of Death)

Travelling to Maine in 1945, the Doctor and Nyssa freed the Veritans that three Dipthodat had been selling while posing as the Acklin family. (PROSE: Tip of the Tongue)

Visiting an asteroid that he had saved years previously, the Doctor and Nyssa met Earth colony agent, Sebastian Musgrove, the lone survivor of the asteroid following a Dalek attack. They also discovered a dying creature called Telxzana. As her life force was the asteroid's sole continent, her death would result in the asteroid's destruction. Because of this, the Doctor contacted Earth to have Musgrove taken to safety, but not before watching the asteroid's last days. (PROSE: Lonely Days)

When Nyssa attempted to repair the TARDIS chameleon circuit, the TARDIS transformed into a whale and trapped the Doctor and Nyssa on an isolated island on Earth. The Doctor lured his ship onto the island. Having grown fond of the police box form, the Doctor made the TARDIS change back and ensured that the chameleon circuit would remain broke for the time being. (AUDIO: The Deep)

The Doctor and Nyssa arrived in Alaska, where they found prehistoric Permian creatures waking from a long period of hibernation, as well as deformed hybrids wandering the ice fields. The Doctor was forced to destroy the Permians before they could spread over Earth, and claimed that the hybrids would soon die without the energies of the Permians to sustain them. (AUDIO: The Land of the Dead)

After Nyssa disappeared whilst the Doctor was making a Spillager detector, he tracked her to a boarding school in Switzerland in 1963. Investigating the poltergeist activity in the school, he discovered psychic ability in the two pupils Alison Speer and Peril Bellamy and deduced they had been brought together by Spillager scouts to open a gateway to allow them to invade. He had the girls turn their abilities on the scouts, but they were too worn out to stop the invasion forcing the Doctor to turn to Nyssa, whose rudimentary abilities proved sufficient to close the gateway. Afterwards the Doctor gave Alison and Peril a lift home in the TARDIS. (AUDIO: Winter for the Adept)

After Nyssa repaired the proximity sensor on the TARDIS, the Doctor accidentally piloted the TARDIS into a time tunnel in the vortex. Landing in America during the 22nd century Dalek invasion, they were almost caught by the Daleks. Managing to escape, they got trapped in the time tunnel dragging them to the 42nd century where the Earth had been ravaged by the Mutant Phase. Learning that this was caused by mutagenic in a Dalek from the invasion, the Doctor went back with a set of Thal scientists to stop it, but discovered that the whole affair was caused by a time paradox created by accident by the Dalek Emperor. (AUDIO: The Mutant Phase)

The Doctor arrived at Traken before its destruction to find the cause of Nyssa's psychic sensitivity. They learned Kwundaar had caused her illness deliberately. (AUDIO: Primeval)

The Doctor was charged by the High Council with the task of reaching another renegade, Cardinal Zero, on the planet he retired to live among an avian species, and make sure he didn't accelerate their technological development. The Doctor ended up aiding Zero's regeneration into a hybrid between Time Lord and avian, thus making him definitely an exiled from Gallifrey, which allowed him to keep leading the species. (AUDIO: Spring)

Having landed on Mondas before it returned to the solar system, the Doctor at first tried to resist interfering but ultimately tried to warn the locals about what was happening relating to the creation of the Cybermen. His actions saw him arrested and his alien biology drew the attention of Doctorman Christine Allan, who used him as a template to improve the Cybermen who at this time were consistently failing. After Mondas fell victim to a cosmic storm, he helped the Mondasians destroy the Central Committee which had accelerated the conversion program in response. He and Nyssa hoped this may alter history somewhat, however Cyber Commander Zheng survived and restarted the program shortly after they left. (AUDIO: Spare Parts).

The Doctor had a chance to defend a chicken in court in 1357. (AUDIO: The Second Oldest Question)

Causing a collision with a Koteem ship, the Doctor and Nyssa landed on Veln and discovered dyestrial poisoning in the atmosphere. The Doctor went to warn the locals, but Nyssa was arrested for murder. He broke her out of custody and discovered that the Koteem and Forleon were creating hybrids to prolong both their races. He left the planet not knowig that all their problems were because of the things the Doctor caused. (AUDIO: Creatures of Beauty)

The Doctor and Nyssa also met P. G. Wodehouse, (AUDIO: Autumn) and fell afoul of Sir Isaac Newton and were arrested for having coins from Earth's future, mistaken for counterfeit. Sir Isaac was able to work out their true nature by himself, but this caused him to have a nervous breakdown. The Doctor stayed behind to help him and assured him his name would be remembered, at least until the 21st century. Grateful, Sir Isaac let him go. (AUDIO: Summer)

The Doctor was shot by Morian on the planet Cray. (AUDIO: The Game)

The Doctor set down in the English village, Stockbridge, to play cricket while Nyssa tried her hand at writing a novel. She caught the attention of a local boy, fell in love and contemplated life on Earth. However, she decided to continue travelling with the Doctor. (AUDIO: Autumn)

While Nyssa was undertaking a solo expedition in 13th century Rhodes, the Doctor travelled alone for a time. (AUDIO: Renaissance of the Daleks)

The Stockbridge ordeal

This section's awfully stubby.

Info from Catalogue of Events & Stars Fell on Stockbridge needs to be added

The Doctor and Justin in the TARDIS. (COMIC: The Tides of Time)

The Doctor travelled to Stockbridge to continue playing cricket. Meanwhile, Melanicus, having seized control of the Event Synthesizer from the Prime Mover, used it to wreak havoc on time.

While investigating the cause of the distortion, the Doctor met Sir Justin of Wells, who was plucked from a joust in his own time. Justin accompanied the Doctor to Gallifrey and the Althrace system to attend a meeting with the High Evolutionaries of Althrace who explained the situation.

Eventually, with the help of Rassilon, Merlin the Wise and Celestial Intervention Agent Shayde, the Doctor confronted Melanicus, who had hidden the Event Synthesizer in a time-altered version of the local church. Justin, the Doctor and Shayde fought Melanicus, with Justin dealing the killing blow at the cost of his own life, restoring the universe to normal. (COMIC: The Tides of Time)

Continuing his Stockbridge visit, the Doctor met a UFO spotter called Maxwell Edison. When Maxwell stumbled into his TARDIS, the Doctor was taken to a ghost ship in Earth's orbit. But before he could investigate, the ship began breaking up. (COMIC: Stars Fell on Stockbridge)

After spending a few months living in Stockbridge, the Doctor discovered his TARDIS had been embedded in the limestone of the Stockbridge quarry. Investigating, the Doctor found himself in a forest on fire, which had been started by an Elemental Being. As he tried to escape, the Doctor learned the Elemental had possessed the TARDIS's computer, leaving him unable to control his ship. He was saved by Shayde and taken back to Gallifrey, where he stood trial as the Elemental had secretly been manipulating his TARDIS whilst he was living in Stockbridge. Shayde managed to clear him of any charges, but the Doctor remained curious over Shayde's true motives. (COMIC: The Stockbridge Horror)

While travelling in the TARDIS, the Doctor arrived on an island in the Pacific Ocean, where he met Fuji and Gus Goodman. The Doctor was forced to take Gus away from the island. (COMIC: Lunar Lagoon) The Doctor and Gus arrived in an alternative timeline where World War II hadn't finished, created by the interventions of the First Monk and the Ice Warriors. The Doctor, however, managed to prevent this timeline coming to pass, and defeated the Ice Warriors and the Monk. (COMIC: 4-Dimensional Vistas)

The Doctor and Gus travelled to the planet Celeste, where the Doctor offended Josiah W. Dogbolter by refusing to sell the TARDIS to him, so Dogbolter sent a hitman named the Moderator after the Doctor. Just as the Doctor had dropped Gus off, the Moderator ambushed them and shot Gus. In the ensuing hail of gunfire, Gus shot and incapacitated the Moderator, but died from his wounds. In an emotional state, the Doctor picked up Gus' fallen pistol and used it to break the Moderator's pistol before dropping the Moderator off near a hospital. (COMIC: The Moderator)

Troubles with Thomas Brewster

This section's awfully stubby.

Info from Return to the Web Planet, & The Three Companions needs to be added

The Doctor reunited with Nyssa and had an encounter with Daleks from an alternative timeline. (AUDIO: Renaissance of the Daleks)

The Doctor spent time in Victorian London, where Thomas Brewster stole the TARDIS. (AUDIO: The Haunting of Thomas Brewster) The Doctor and Nyssa then arrived on the land of the "Scorpion King", who they discovered was really their old friend Adric. Reconciled with the pair, Adric aided them in escaping the past and locating the TARDIS. (AUDIO: The Boy That Time Forgot) Putting right what Brewster had made wrong, (AUDIO: Time Reef) the Doctor and Nyssa bid him goodbye on Earth in 2008 with his lover, Connie Winter. (AUDIO: A Perfect World)

Further travels with Nyssa

This section's awfully stubby.

Info from Curiosity, God Send Me Well to Keep, Tweaker, The Demons of Red Lodge, & Seven to One needs to be added

In 1199, the Doctor and Nyssa found a Rutan inhabiting the Stockbridge Castle on Earth. They managed to defeat the Rutan, but were caught in an explosion. (AUDIO: Castle of Fear) They survived, and arrived in Stockbridge during the late 20th century, where the Doctor met Maxwell Edison again. (AUDIO: The Eternal Summer)

The Doctor and Nyssa were swept up by a time storm to Stockbridge, where a strange rain was mutating the villagers into Dalek slaves. The Daleks tried to turn the Doctor into a Dalek and use his TARDIS to help conquer the universe, but failed. (AUDIO: Plague of the Daleks)

Travelling to Concordum in the hope of getting to hear some of the last Traken music in the universe, the Doctor and Nyssa's visit was cut short when they uncovered a plot by a group of Entropy Sirens involving a musical piece entitled "White Waves, Soft Haze". (AUDIO: The Entropy Composition)

On a planet where the Doctor used his "John Smith" alias, he was mistaken for a local criminal of the same name, arrested and sent to prison. While Nyssa tried to free him, the Doctor tried to warn the prison authorities of an explosion that was destined to destroy them. Realising that it was the Governor herself who would trigger the explosion, the Doctor managed to prevent a catastrophe. (AUDIO: Doing Time)

Taking part in a DVD commentary of a horror film from the 1970s named The Devil's Whisper, the Doctor used the occasion to try and track down an alien parasite known as the Rasht and its "nursemaid" host. In the film was an alien device that enabled a Rasht to possess people who saw it. The Doctor had destroyed all the footage, and planned to use the occasion to contain and destroy the creature. Successful, he and Nyssa departed. (AUDIO: Special Features)

When the Doctor was captured by the Sultan, Nyssa was forced to tell him stories about her adventures with the Doctor for his freedom. (AUDIO: 1001 Nights) One such story was when they encountered the Miaxa in a strange prison. (AUDIO: My Brother's Keeper) A second was about when Nyssa was possessed by the Interplanetarian and how the Doctor exorcised it. (AUDIO: The Interplanetarian) A final story was about when they visited a planet where stories were currency. (AUDIO: Smuggling Tales) Nyssa discovered that the Sultan was a shapeshifter, and that the reason he wanted to hear her stories was because he wanted to steal the Doctor's identity and his TARDIS to escape the planet. (AUDIO: 1001 Nights)

The Doctor took Nyssa to 1963 to visit The Beatles, but instead encountered the Common Men. He thought that something weird was happening to time. He discovered that Lenny Kruger was planning to make the Common Men a big band to gain infinite power. (AUDIO: 1963: Fanfare for the Common Men)

The Doctor and Nyssa visited Bob Dovie at 59A Barnsfield Crescent in Totton, Hampshire on 23 November 1963. (AUDIO: The Light at the End)

The Doctor planned to take Nyssa to Valcanta but it wasn't there in space or time. Looking further, he found a lot of missing planets. They landed on Traxana's moon where they were kidnapped by cell spiders. The Doctor encountered Sonderal and Elthar, who were also investigating the missing planets, and discovered that the Daleks were behind everything. Nyssa and the Doctor were captured by the Daleks, (AUDIO: Alien Heart) and taken to Mojax but escaped quickly. He wasn't aware that the Daleks had created a duplicate of him and Nyssa. (AUDIO: Dalek Soul)

The Doctor and Nyssa encountered the huntress and adventuress Hannah Bartholemew in 1911 Suffolk, and she assisted them during an adventure. (AUDIO: Moonflesh) Hannah then stowed away in the Doctor's TARDIS and assisted the Doctor on an Arrit tomb ship in which the TARDIS had materialised. After that, Hannah joined the Doctor on new adventures in time and space. (AUDIO: Tomb Ship)

On the SORDIDE Delta space station and in the Shadow-Space connected to it, Hannah saved the lives of the Doctor and Nyssa, as well as the fate of billions of humans, but in the process, she was left purged of all emotions, in a robot-like state. She decided to stay on the station along with its similarly afflicted crew instead of going back home with the Doctor. (AUDIO: Masquerade)

The Doctor escapes the Labyrinth of Death. (GAME: The First Adventure)

The Doctor answered SOS signal but came to the spaceship 100 hundred years before. With the help of Nyssa he stopped the AI which was driving the single member of the crew crazy. (AUDIO: Downward Spiral))

The Doctor later escaped the Labyrinth of Death after collecting the three segments of the Key to Time. (GAME: The First Adventure)

The return of Omega

The Doctor confronts Omega in the Matrix. (TV: Arc of Infinity)

The Doctor was summoned to Gallifrey after dealing with an anti-matter being near the Arc of Infinity. The High Council, led by Lord President Borusa, ordered a Warrant of Termination issued on the Doctor as a form of execution. In the Matrix, the Doctor encountered Omega and Tegan Jovanka. With Nyssa's help, he escaped to Amsterdam in 1983 and found Tegan and Omega, who had created a new body for himself, copying the Doctor's biodata and appearance. The Doctor used the gun of one of Omega's creations to destroy him before Omega could will his self-destruction. With Omega destroyed, the High Council dropped all the charges against the Doctor, allowing him to continue his travels. He also allowed Tegan to rejoin him and Nyssa in the TARDIS. (TV: Arc of Infinity)

While in Amsterdam, the three of them went to a Rembrandt van Rijn exhibition and ended up travelling back in time to the Dutch Golden Age, meeting the famous painter and first trying to help and later defeating a stranded alien in that time period. (AUDIO: The Waters of Amsterdam)

While Tegan and Nyssa relaxed in Amsterdam, (AUDIO: The Elite) the Doctor was called upon by the Time Lords to answer a telepathic message sent by "the Doctor" in the Sector of Forgotten Souls. Upon arrival, the Doctor discovered that Omega had been reconstructed from his biodata, and developed a split personality, believing himself to be both "the Doctor" and Omega. However, the Doctor managed to defeat Omega, and exile him back to his universe of anti-matter. (AUDIO: Omega)

The Doctor tried to return to Amsterdam, but accidentally arrived on a spaceship in the Drashani Empire carrying a prince called Kylo Sorsha. His arrival indirectly caused the ship to crash into the planet Sharnax, and in the ensuing events Kylo was left stranded on Sharnax. (AUDIO: The Burning Prince)

The Fifth Doctor was taken out of his time zone by the Father of Time to partake in "the Final Test". He was brought to a TARDIS control console room from his future alongside his second, third, fourth and sixth incarnations, and told that Time had disassembled the control console and set the TARDIS on a course for the heart of the sun, with the Doctors' only hope being to reassemble the control console. Unable to achieve the task due to their bickering, the Doctors were saved when the First Doctor united them in reversing time itself with their pooled temporal powers. As the TARDIS escaped the sun, the Father of Time congratulated the Doctor and sent them back to their own times. (COMIC: The Test of Time)

The Doctor was trapped in the Determinant by the Tremas Master, along with his six other incarnations. He gave the Graak advice about how to defeat a Sontaran. He was saved after the Graak defeated the Master, and sacrificed its life force to free the trapped Doctors. (GAME: Destiny of the Doctors)

The Doctor briefly bumped into George Litefoot and Henry Gordon Jago, (PROSE: A Victorian Interlude) and attended a private Christmas party hosted by the First Doctor. (PROSE: The Feast of Seven... Eight (and Nine))

Temporary companions

Info from Cuddlesome needs to be added

The Doctor discovered that a race of aliens had gone back in time and sent a business woman on her way to a job interview to another planet to die, as her changes to the company would eventually lead to a war in the future between that race and another, and they planned to revert it by killing her before she could join the company. The Doctor found her on the planet after three days without food or water and took her into the TARDIS.

The two travelled together for a year-and-a-half. During one trip, the woman's portfolio was scratched as she blocked the treads of an approaching Warboy with it as "the Big One" came down over her. The woman thought that the travels would last forever, but she eventually decided to leave after she learned of the Doctor's past companions and saw the age and sorrow in his eyes. The Doctor thus returned her to her interview. (PROSE: Time on a Vine)

The Doctor's TARDIS crashed into the TARDIS of his tenth incarnation. After the Tenth Doctor saved the universe from being sucked into the resulting black hole by creating a supernova at the same time as the black hole imploded, which he had remembered to do from the Fifth Doctor watching him do it, the two Doctors bonded over their shared traits, before the TARDISes separated and the Fifth Doctor was returned to his own timestream. (TV: Time Crash)

The Doctor met up with Winston Churchill in 1931 and the two ended up at the field of Blenheim, where they "[threw] themselves under the scant foliage to protect themselves from Marshal Tallard's onslaught". (PROSE: The Lost Diaries of Winston Spencer Churchill)

Finding himself in the TARDIS of his first incarnation, the Doctor was able to convince Vicki Pallister and Steven Taylor of his identity, but soon found himself trying to deal with the social turmoil of Constantinople as a plague struck the city over a year ahead of schedule. The Doctor soon found out that the person behind the switch was the Monk, but was unable to stop the Monk's plan to trick him into altering history, allowing the Monk to take the Doctor's place in history.

Fortunately, the Doctor was restored to existence by the Monk's ally, Sophia, who realised that the Monk's attempt to take the Doctor's place was making history worse rather than better, allowing the Doctor to set a trap where the Monk would be forced to restore him to existence. Although learning that the Monk would attempt further attacks on his person, the Doctor mused that he would stop those plans as well, allowing himself to return to his place in history while his first incarnation returned to his TARDIS and let events unfold as they should have done before the Monk's interference. (AUDIO: The Secret History)

The Doctor travelled to Rome in 1511, where he found Gabby and Joel Finch in the wrong time period, and realised that half of the Sistine Chapel's roof wasn't painted. Upon hearing what made Gabby and Joel appear in 1511, the Doctor theorised that a Weeping Angel was on the loose in Rome and thought that Michelangelo must have been attacked by one. Having found the three Angels in the city, he was able to stop them by working with the Finches and Michelangelo to trap them in a crypt below the chapel, using mirrors to ensure that the Angels would always be looking at each other while burying the walls of the chapel itself. (AUDIO: Fallen Angels)

The TARDIS brought the Doctor back to the Racnoss Wars where he saved the Empress' consort from death at the hands of the Time Lords and took him back to the Racnoss homeworld. There he and two Time Lord prisoners were embroiled in the Empress' power struggle with the Emperor, whom she had left for dead and had subsequently laid claim to her hatchery to turn her children against her. The Doctor ultimately decided to take the hatchery away from both of them, using the TARDIS to take it to an unpopulated planet where the children could start afresh. He then offered to take the surviving Time Lord prisoner, Alayna, home. (AUDIO: Empire of the Racnoss)

Returning to Amsterdam

On his way back to Amsterdam, (AUDIO: The Furies) the Doctor became acquainted with Brooke, who was actually a proto-Time Lord sent on a mission by Madame Kovarian to kill him. The pair had several adventures together. (AUDIO: A Requiem for the Doctor, The Furies) River Song summoned them to Terminus Prime after burying her sibling Lily and joined them in the TARDIS. (AUDIO: The Lady in the Lake)

The Doctor visited several places with Brooke and River, including Gadalax Prime. However, when they visited Vienna in the 18th century, Brooke spiked the Doctor with Aqua Galatia and used her hatred of him in an attempt to murder him. River neutralised the effect with her love. (AUDIO: A Requiem for the Doctor)

River forced Brooke to take them to where she was set to meet Kovarian, the Bumptious Gastropod, a restaurant outside spacetime. She then wiped the Doctor's memory to send him away. However he immediately returned to the restaurant and became embroiled in River's complicated scheme to ensnare Kovarian using a doppelgänger of his, Andrew Edwardson. Despite River's efforts to keep him out of the way, Brooke seemingly murdered the Doctor using regeneration inhibitors. (AUDIO: My Dinner With Andrew) Afterwards Brooke sided with River against Kovarian and used her vortex manipulator to change history by convincing Andrew to take the Doctor's place. She brought the Doctor in his TARDIS to Concorde Well where he said a brief farewell to River, unaware of her identity, and then set off for Amsterdam. (AUDIO: The Furies)

On his way back to Amsterdam, the Doctor's TARDIS collided with the Apocalypse Deathwatch, a luxury time cruiser. He worked with a stowaway, Jenny, who claimed to be his future daughter via genetic sampling, to resolve the collision and deal with Vortisaurs, the Nine and Thana who were attempting to capitalise on the disaster. He convinced the Nine to use their TARDISes to shield the cruiser however the Nine noticed they were passing through the broken timestream of Earth and used his TARDIS to try to capture it. Whilst Jenny piloted the cruiser to normal space, the Doctor time rammed the Nine's TARDIS, telling Jenny he accepted her as his daughter as he did so. The Nine was forced to retreat. Due to the event happening in cauterised time, the Doctor lost all memories of it. (AUDIO: Relative Time)

The Doctor was contacted by Bernice Summerfield, and told that the Sirens of Time had hijacked the test flight of the prototype TARDIS, turning it into a time paradox that was splitting the universe apart. While the experiment had already been stopped, the Time Lords were in danger of not discovering time travel. Along with his third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth incarnations, the Fifth Doctor was brought to the planet Henlen to serve as one of the six pilots needed to handle the TARDIS prototype, while his first, second and tenth incarnations dealt with the possible backlash. The flight was successful, restoring the correct timeline and the Fifth Doctor was taken back to his own time by Benny. (AUDIO: Collision Course)

Renewed voyages with Tegan

After picking up Nyssa and Tegan from Amsterdam, thirty seconds after he had left, (AUDIO: The Waters of Amsterdam) the Doctor took them to Florana, where he discovered a lone Dalek had manipulated the population into believing that it was a god. The Doctor tricked the Dalek into revealing its real identity to its greatest "follower", Thane, the High Priest. With his faith broken, Thane killed the Dalek. However, Thane continued with the Dalek's plot to use a weapon called "The Cleansing Fire" to wipe out the population, but he ended up killing himself in the process, along with a percentage of the population. (AUDIO: The Elite)

Arriving on the moon of Akoshemon, the Doctor learned that an entity known as "the Dark" had been imprisoned on the moon millennia in the past, but was manipulating events to ensure its release. Although the mining vessel the Adamantium was destroyed along with most of its crew through the Dark's efforts, the Doctor was able to defeat the Dark by tricking it into fighting a genetically-engineered life form known as the Bloodhunter, with the Bloodhunter wounding the Dark before it was destroyed so that it could be sent back into the abyss where it had been trapped before. (PROSE: Fear of the Dark)

The Doctor tried to help Tegan and Nyssa with their grief for Adric by taking them to the Necropolitan, a huge neutral interplanetary place of mourning. There, he reunited with Verin, a funeral officer whom he had met several times before, and helped him solve a murder. (PROSE: Wake)

Arriving in 1896 London, the Doctor and Tegan discovered that Nyssa had been abducted by a group dedicated to Nephthys, intending to use Nyssa as a new "prison" for Nephthys that could be easier for her to escape. Working with Atkins, the butler of the man who had discovered Nyssa in the tomb of Nephthys, the Doctor and Tegan were able to determine that Nephthys's essence had been divided between instinct and consciousness, with her instinct restored in a clone of her previous host while her conscious mind was trapped in Nyssa. With the aid of Lady Ann Talbot, the Doctor tricked Nephthys into making a series of round trips between 1922 and 1992 via an Osiran time corridor, eventually causing her to age to death while Nyssa was safely restored and Nephthys' consciousness was trapped in a new prison. (PROSE: The Sands of Time)

Discovering dinosaurs

Marc joins the crew

The Doctor arrived in 63BC and met Cicero and Marc. He was given several tasks alongside Tegan, Nyssa, Cicero, Marc and Septus by a computer created by the Zorth, which was tasked with identifying and supplying a life form who could serve as the leader of the Zorth during their war. The computer decided that Marc would be a good leader and prepared to take him away before learning from the Doctor that the Zorth were extinct. Nyssa invited Marc aboard the TARDIS, an offer that he accepted. (AUDIO: Tartarus)

The Doctor travelled to the 30th century on a space station called Proxima with Nyssa, Marc and Tegan, where they encountered Kalu, a scientist who worked to develop a chronon bomb for Earth Central. Kalu had discovered interstitial time, and was planning to use it to achieve evolutionary perfection. She was defeated by the Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa, Marc and Jennings. (AUDIO: Interstitial)

He was captured by the Spae Wife and kept in a cell by a controlled Nyssa. He tried to undo the conditioning by reminding her of her past. He concentrated his mind on giving lectures of the solar system to himself. He was force to tell fortunes. He was determined to stop the Spae Wife as it wanted the TARDIS. (AUDIO: Feast of Fear)

The Doctor landed the TARDIS on Samotis and got caught in a race. He learnt of the colony from Esma. He was suspicious of the juice they were given and wanted to know what was actually going on there. He rescued Marc after he was injured but was arrested for arguing with a steward. He realised that Esma was cyber-converted and they were being cyberconverted. He got a message to Nyssa to stop the race. (AUDIO: Warzone)

He left Marc with Nyssa on a research station to find a way of helping Marc after his Cyber-conversion. Tegan went with the Doctor on his way to find a way to fight the conversion. He came to a cybervault to access the cyber-mainframe and augmented Nyssa's cybervirus to return Marc and the other Cybermen's preconversion memories. However, he considered himself solely culpable for what Marc went through and after Tegan berated him for his previously desperate behaviour, the Doctor landed his companions on Callanna and departed in the TARDIS, promising to come back after deciding that they needed time apart from one another to recover. (AUDIO: Conversion)

Taking a break

Returning to Cumea not long after they had departed with Marc, the Doctor visited Cicero to ensure that he did not send a letter detailing their adventure together. When questioned about Marc's wellbeing, the Doctor insisted Marc was fine, a lie which Cicero immediately saw through and the Doctor left, leaving Cicero to ponder on Marc's true fate. (AUDIO: Tartarus)

The Doctor landed in East Berlin in 1975 in an empty station where he encountered Peter Meier and a dead body. He discovered that there was an inter-dimensional being who was trying to get through to this reality. After convincing the being to resurrect Peter he told him to run and escape the east to live a good life. (AUDIO: Ghost Station)

The Doctor came to the rescue of Agatha but was caught by Clement. His soul was sacrificed to protect the bridge but didn't die because it possessed his shadow. He learnt from Agatha about why they needed the bridge for trade but were worried about raiders and that she lured him over the bridge to save her son Lucas. He remembered something about English history around bridges. He learnt that Clement used alien technology to create the shades. (AUDIO: The Bridge Master)

The TARDIS landed on the Lady Juliana were he encountered Mary Wade who told him about strange things onboard. He talked to Richard Alley about the infection and learnt that both Mary and Richard didn't eat the fish their fellows were catching. He encountered the Teuthis and wanted to talk to her. He then showed the Teuthis a safe place in the ocean. (AUDIO: What Lurks Down Under)

Planning on seeing Erasmus, he landed in Alsace but was a year late at the time of the Dancing Plague. Margareta told him about the dancing plague and the symptoms. After encountering Gerhardt, he was ordered to cure it. Gerhardt thought that the Doctor was causing the plague. He left in the TARDIS in a dramatic way which stopped the plague, realising it was mass hysteria. (AUDIO: The Dancing Plague)

The TARDIS brought him to Australia in 1933 and encountered a cricketing legend Douglas Jardine, apparently looking for the Adelaide Oval. Seeing the situation that Calderwood and Flora where in, he offered them a trip in the TARDIS to safety. He thought that something was changing the topography. He realised that the Daleks were behind what was happening and vowed to trace what was happening. (AUDIO: Aimed at the Body)

Tracing the Dalek signal to a space cruiser, the Doctor had to pilot the ship after its pilots were killed by Orson as part of a revenge plot. He had to pilot it at speeds faster the light to avoid stellar objects and then protect the ship when robot piranhas hatched on the ship. He tricked Orson to save the crew and passengers by kissing them all to give a genetic transfer. (AUDIO: Lightspeed)

He arrived amnesiac at a bookshop owned by Diana Wright. He tried to work out why he was there whilst being interrogated by Frank Reichenback and encouraged Madeleine Williams to read her poetry. The poetry reminded him about the a war he's too early for. The Doctor theorised that Madeliene was part of a war. He worked out that everyone was doing things to make them feel safe. (AUDIO: The Bookshop at the End of the World)

The TARDIS landed and created a time bubble and started to recall what others had said to him. He worked out something strange was their and realised he was on a strange movie set. He realised that the time bubble was closing and a Dalek was on the set. He managed to get to the TARDIS before it collapsed. (AUDIO: Interlude)

The Doctor found himself in a recording studio presenting a radio show covering for another presenter. He didn't know what he was doing there. He interviewed the Brian and later the Pellent Glomeration Representative about the upcoming peace treaty. K'Marree-943 later put him at gunpoint and wanted him to take only calls. He wrestled the weapon from her by overloading the system with calls. This was when he started to realise he was meeting the same people over and over again. He switched off the recording studio to save the people trapped their. (AUDIO: Echo Chamber)

The Doctor found himself investigating his own death when he landed at the Fernbridge estate. He thought something strange was happening as the birds were on a loop. He questioned the people on the estate. He asked Jennifer Huxely about her past, as he noticed they were aspects of the people he kept on seeing. The more he understood about the murder the more he heard the Daleks and the area shrinked. He also found out there were multiple versions of the murder as it was created from his own memory. (AUDIO: Towards Zero)

The Doctor landed in a jail that had a temporal leak in it. He asked Callis to inspect the castle. He worked out from Alice that something weird was happening and to break out her prisoners. He sent the duplicates back to their rightful time and place. (AUDIO: Castle Hydra)

The TARDIS collided with another time machine. He encountered four time travellers, Kelleher, Milal, Sandar and Maran shortly afterwards. He realised that they were the source of the set of people he kept on seeing, but he didn't understand why the temporal collision caused such damage. He encountered a set of Daleks whose's development had caused a temporal deviation that resulted in an alternative Gallifrey. He learnt that the Daleks came from a Time War who were on a plan to stop the evolution of the Time Lords and the people he kept meeting were remnants of the Dalek force un-evolved into Kaleds. He saw the Kaleds sacrifice themselves which restored Gallifrey. (AUDIO: Effect and Cause)

Landing in 1892, the Doctor encountered Charles Crookshap and was concerned about symbols that he had in his house which were anachronistic. He realised that the world had been changed, as the fashion was 40 years too early, and that Crookshap was the famous writer not John Hobshaw as it was supposed to be. He composed counter equations to help undo what had been done and discovered that Crookshap never existed and was a being from another dimension. After stopping the paradox of Crookshap, the Doctor encountered one of his future incarnations, who told him what would have happened in the real timeline. Understanding that his companions are no more protected apart from him, the Doctor then decided to go back to his friends. (AUDIO: Thin Time) He landed back on Callanna and said that he needed to talk. (AUDIO: Madquake)

Initially intending to take Nyssa, Tegan and Marc to Gallifrey to talk in a Council Chamber with a Time Lord Arbitrator, the Doctor and his companions instead arrived in the Welkin Sanatorium, located on a planetoid called the Soresia. While there, the Doctor was apparently haunted by the ghost of Adric. (AUDIO: The Lost Resort)

Old foes return again

Stranded on a massacred Earth colony, the Doctor lost Tegan when she was kidnapped by Anna, the last survivor of the population. However, when he found Tegan alive and well, he was disturbed to find Anna had been reduced to dust. (PROSE: Soul Mate)

Using a replica of the Great Crystal on Manussa. (TV: Snakedance)

When Tegan began having precognitive dreams of the Mara, the Doctor decided to deal with the problem on the Mara's home planet, Manussa, where the Doctor sought help from a snake-dancer named Dojjen. According to him, the Doctor had to find his "still point"; the Mara fed on negative emotions, but if one found this internal spot, they would be safe from being fed on. Taking advantage of this knowledge, the Doctor starved the Mara to death, freeing Tegan of its influence. (TV: Snakedance)

In Manchester, the Doctor was attacked by a baby vampire sent by his old Time Lord friend, Ruath, who wanted his blood to resurrect the powerful vampire Yarven, but Nyssa was bitten and became a vampire in his place. The Doctor found Ruath, who was also a vampire, building a machine to freeze time in eternal night to allow vampires to feed forever. The Doctor allowed Nyssa to convert him, and then destroyed the machine and Yarven, changing himself, Nyssa and Ruath back to normal, and then trapped Ruath in the time vortex. (PROSE: Goth Opera)

Leaving Manchester, the Doctor was summoned back to Gallifrey, where he and Nyssa investigated a spate of vampire killings whilst Tegan remained in the TARDIS. They came across a Time Lord cult who believed Rassilon was a vampire. They found the real culprit had infiltrated the TARDIS and infected Tegan. Held hostage, the Doctor was forced to pilot the TARDIS to Earth. However, he materialised in daylight, which destroyed the vampire and returned Tegan to normal. (COMIC: Blood Invocation)

The Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa landed on the deserted spaceship Aquitaine, met the robot Hargreaves and the crew who were scattered through time, and helped to solve the temporal mystery that surrounded the vessel. (AUDIO: Aquitaine) The TARDIS malfunctioned and the three travellers made a forced landing in 1819 Manchester, where they were unwitting testimonies to the horrific events that took place on the city during the Massacre on St Peter's Field. (AUDIO: The Peterloo Massacre)

When the TARDIS got stuck in a warp ellipse and materialised on a starliner in 1983, the Doctor became trapped at Brendon Public School, where he met a teenage alien in exile named Vislor Turlough, who the Black Guardian persuaded to kill the Doctor in return for being taken back to his homeworld. He also reunited with the Brigadier, who had forgotten their adventures at UNIT and was now a teacher at Brendon's School.

The Doctor found a transmat capsule was responsible for his entrap on Earth; it exploded, sending the TARDIS, containing Nyssa and Tegan, to 1977. After jogging the Brigadier's memory, he and the Doctor went to the spaceship, where the Brigadier from 1977 also was. Mawdryn, one of nine aliens who abused Time Lord technology to become immortal, now wished to die and, at first, it seemed the Doctor would have to sacrifice his remaining regenerations to power a machine to save his companions and kill Mawdryn. Due to the Black Guardian's manipulation of Turlough, the two Brigadiers met and the resulting effect gave the younger Brigadier amnesia and provided power for the machine. The Doctor returned the Brigadiers to their proper times and welcomed Turlough on board, unaware that his latest companion was his assassin. (TV: Mawdryn Undead)

The Doctor was summoned to Gallifrey to track down Ophiuchus, with the High Council wanting to eliminate him for apparently experimenting on Time Lords. Heading to the Cloisters with Tegan, Nyssa and Turlough, the Doctor found Ophiuchus in a secret lab, where he explained that he was trying to break the regeneration limit. As Ophiuchus was dying, the Doctor helped him to regenerate into their fourteenth incarnation and then advised her to flee Gallifrey, promising to tell the High Council that Ophiuchus was destroyed by his experiments. (COMIC: Ophiuchus)

On the Black Guardian's command, Turlough sabotaged the TARDIS, and the ship locked onto a spaceship carrying victims of Lazar's disease to Terminus. Terminus had originally caused the Big Bang and was about to reverse it, destroying the universe. The Doctor charmed the Garm, who prevented the engines from blowing up. Nyssa decided to stay on Terminus to help perfect a cure for Lazar's disease, which upset the Doctor, who was left to travel on with Tegan and Turlough. (TV: Terminus)

While fixing Turlough's sabotage, the Doctor encountered the White Guardian and was ordered to visit an Edwardian yacht-like spaceship piloted by Eternals in a race for Enlightenment. One Eternal, Wrack, sought the prize to end her boredom, and used the Black Guardian's power to destroy other ships.

After the Doctor and Turlough won the race, both Guardians offered them the prize. Realising Turlough was in league with the Black Guardian, the Doctor offered him the prize to test his virtue. Though the Black Guardian tempted him with anything he wanted in exchange for the Doctor's life, Turlough rejected the offer, making the Black Guardian vanish. Although Turlough had been acting against him, the Doctor allowed him to remain aboard the TARDIS, (TV: Enlightenment) which resulted in conflict between him and Tegan. (AUDIO: Cobwebs) Shortly afterwards, the TARDIS landed in Arizona in 1905, where the Doctor came into conflict with travelling showman Thaddeus P. Winklemeyer. (AUDIO: Freakshow)

The Doctor travelled to the tomb of Qin Shi Huangdi in Xi'an and rescued Edward Grainger from a plane crash. Taking Edward aboard the TARDIS, the Doctor investigated the tomb and discovered it was guarded by a thousand terracotta warriors. Trekking through the tomb, the Doctor and his three friends fought thousands of enraged ghosts, which included Edward's dead crew. The Doctor used a sonic wave to defeat the ghosts, but was forced to wipe the mind of Edward's love interest, Mai Ling. (PROSE: Falling from Xi'an)

Nyssa returns

This section's awfully stubby.

Info from The Monkey House needs to be added

Two days after leaving Terminus, the TARDIS was forced down to the planet Helheim, where the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough reunited with Nyssa, who had lived fifty years since staying behind on Terminus. Nyssa arrived on Helheim to find a cure for Richter's Syndrome, which led her to an abandoned base, where they found robotic Cractids, and four bodies covered in cobwebs, which resembled the Doctor, Tegan, Turlough and Nyssa. To discover what happened to the base, they all travelled to the past, where they discovered that the Cractids were attempting to construct clones of the TARDIS crew, explaining why their bodies were left in the base. The Doctor then used his TARDIS, to divert his TARDIS in the past, to arrive on Helheim in the first place. After the Doctor failed to return her home, Nyssa rejoined the TARDIS crew. (AUDIO: Cobwebs)

The Doctor, Tegan, Turlough and Nyssa arrived on Chodor in the 28th century, where they found a society which was obsessed with cleanliness, and lived under the menace of the Takers. After discovering the truth behind the origins to the corrupt society, the TARDIS crew returned to the TARDIS, but discovered that Tegan was still possessed by the Mara. (AUDIO: The Whispering Forest)

When the Doctor attempted to drive the Mara out of Tegan, it changed its tactics and secretly entered into the Doctor's mind, leaving Tegan completely.

Taking the TARDIS to Manussa after reading about its history, the Mara landed the ship before the rise of the Sumaran Empire, and embarked on a scheme to bring about the subjugation of Manussa in that time period instead, keeping the Doctor as its primary host while possessing several Manussans. However, Tegan and Turlough were able to free the Doctor using a circle of television cameras and screens, and the Doctor linked the crystal the Mara was using as a link to the material world to the TARDIS so he could reverse the creature's physical manifestation. However, the process required that the crystal be in physical contact with the Mara, and the giant snake, fuelled by the despair of the many Manussans it had managed to possess, had swallowed the TARDIS whole. In the end, a young man who had been brought into existence by the crystal technology sacrificed himself by going out into the snake's belly with the crystal, destroying it by "restoring the balance". (AUDIO: The Cradle of the Snake)

The Doctor and his friends landed on Samur shortly before a Sontaran squadron arrived. He learnt that after his previous visit there, the planet was turned into a battleground. He discovered that the inhabitants of the planet had used the Witch Guards to defend themselves. (AUDIO: Heroes of Sontar)

Deciding to repair the TARDIS, following the damage Turlough caused on Terminus, the Doctor landed on Vektris where Tegan and Nyssa decided to have a holiday. Turlough was kidnapped, and the Doctor stole a spaceship to follow his kidnappers. He crashed the ship on Turlough's grandfather's planet. He and Nyssa encountered the Morass who were the castle's security system. He worked out that the Morass were programmed to protect the treasure of the planet, which was Turlough and Deela, not jewels. (AUDIO: Kiss of Death)

Whilst the TARDIS was calibrating the time circuits, the Doctor decided to take his companions to the middle ages, but ended up landing in 1983. He encountered a set of journalists and people from the Home Office searching the caves. Discovering a set of genetically engineered rats created by Christopher Wallace, he planned to take the rats to a planet away from the humans, but he realised that this wouldn't work, and the only solution was to use the punishment solution to de-evolve the rats, and let Wallace do this. (AUDIO: Rat Trap)

After landing in Calcutta on 31 December 1926, the Doctor and his companions joined an expedition to locate the fabled Emerald Tiger. During this adventure, Nyssa regained her youth again. (AUDIO: The Emerald Tiger) Then they landed on the Eight slash Q Panenka comet in 2329, where they met a crew of a space freighter. They also encountered the Jovians, a race the Doctor thought extinct by the 24th century, who were being manipulated by the actions of the Jupiter Axis. (AUDIO: The Jupiter Conjunction)

Attempting to get to Tegan's father's farm in the 1980s on her request, the TARDIS encountered a Zygma beam which took Nyssa and Turlough from the console room. The Doctor traced them to Brisbane in the 51st century. He was captured and taken to Findecker and was then tortured. The Doctor told Findecker that his experiments would never work as intended. He later had to rescue Nysa from Magnus Greel. (AUDIO: The Butcher of Brisbane)

The Doctor and friends landed in Ambermouth in 2013, where he encountered a strange set of crystals which were growing on the local wildlife. He discovered that another piece of Eldrad was on the Earth and that Mulkris was sent to find all of his parts. After taking Charlie Gibbs to Kastria, he discovered that the previous version of Eldrad had survived but then Mulkris proceeded to kill him. (AUDIO: Eldrad Must Die!)

Landing at the University of Frodsham in 1983, he encountered Philippa Stone who had created a primitive time machine which sent Tegan and John Bleak back to the year 918. He went after her using the TARDIS to get them back. (AUDIO: The Lady of Mercia)

The Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan and Turlough were forced to land on Valderon in 3556, where they encountered a penal colony. They learnt that their arrival was foretold by Sibor's chronoscope, which the Doctor later learnt was his first TARDIS, who wanted to punish him. He also met Nyssa's son Adric Traken. (AUDIO: Prisoners of Fate)

Trying to get Nyssa back to her children, the TARDIS located a CVE landing in E-Space back on Alzarius. He learnt that Adric had programmed the TARDIS to do this. On Alzarius, they encountered a set of Alzarians who were investigating the Marshman to learn more about themselves. He discovered Pik Solus had stolen a critical part of the TARDIS. (AUDIO: Mistfall) He traced Pik to Isenfel and managed to pilot the damaged TARDIS without too much problem. He learnt from Balancer Skaarsgard that the planet was an experiment to keep balance and maintain equilibrium through culling the population to keep energy and entropy constant. He realised that this was to simulate what was happening to E-Space. He lost Tegan to a set of pirates who kidnapped her. (AUDIO: Equilibrium) Managing to track Tegan to Apollyon, where the TARDIS lost all its power, the TARDIS crew discovered that entropy was setting in on the planet and that the people were trying to escape the collapse of the universe using Pallister's machine, which was powered by living beings. Nyssa decided to use herself as the power source to get the Doctor, Tegan, and Turlough home. Nyssa became trapped in the mini-universe when the CVE linking it and N-Space was sealed permanently. The Doctor then immediately went to see Nyssa's son Adric to tell him what happened. (AUDIO: The Entropy Plague)

The Doctor received a message from River Song, inviting him on a date at the Cafe du Paris, 2061. He went and met with the woman, who unbeknownst to him, added a substance to his tea to make him more suggestable. The Doctor started a correspondence with her, and grew more and more amorous of her as time passed. (AUDIO: Expiry Dating)

The TARDIS arrived on 13th century Earth, where the Doctor met King John, despite history recording the King was in London on that date. Geoffrey de Lacey arrived at the castle to confirm the Doctor‘s suspicions and the Doctor saved him from being silenced by Sir Gilles Estram, who revealed himself as the Master after they crossed swords. The Doctor discovered John was actually Kamelion, an android the Master acquired after being stranded by the Doctor in their previous encounter. The Master revealed his plan to use Kamelion to avert Magna Carta's signing however the Doctor engaged him in a battle of wills and freed Kamelion, bringing him aboard his TARDIS. (TV: The King's Demons) Kamelion preferred to remain in the TARDIS for fear of being taken over by a stronger personality and used against the Doctor. (PROSE: The Crystal Bucephalus)

While travelling through space, the TARDIS was penetrated by a Phoenix, attempting to gain control of the main console room. However, the Doctor, Tegan, Turlough and Kamelion managed to access the secondary control room, and expel the Phoenix into the Time Vortex. (PROSE: The Bird of Fire)

While attending the grand opening gala of Professor Vittorio Levi's museum dedicated to the preservation of Earth's art and antiquities at a space station in orbit around Earth, Tegan was again overtaken by the Mara due to Levi's speech triggering her memories of it. Using Tegan's subconscious to gain a psychic hold on Kamelion, transforming him a Medusa-like serpent with Tegan's face, the Mara began turning the party-goers into stone. However, the Doctor defeated the Mara by having Tegan face it, forcing the Mara to relinquish its control of Kamelion when confronted with its own image. (PROSE: Mark of the Medusa)

When he asked for Kamelion's help in restoring the console, the TARDIS crashed into Orna's ship. The Doctor later had to pilot half the ship into landing when the power started failing. In the crash, he became paralysed but Turlough thought he had broken his back. He used a hover sled to get around, and used it to save Turlough when he fell of a cliff. He then got Turlough to pilot the TARDIS. He thought that Tegan was in control of Kamelion because of her strong will. He worked out that Tegan's wounds were healed by nanites in the stream, and hoped they could cure him. The guardian of the spring tried to stop him so that the secret of the spring would remain, but the Doctor was able to convince the guardian to heal him by arguing that if he died here his enemies would all come to the spring to celebrate. (AUDIO: Devil in the Mist)

When the TARDIS materialised in a Welsh mine in 1902, the Doctor and his companions tried to help, but Kamelion became caught up in a woman's grief over the death of her husband and son when he was present at their deaths. (AUDIO: Black Thursday)

The Doctor tried to take his friends to New York for a holiday, but when they materialised in York, Kamelion again fell victim to an alien threat when an other-dimensional entity who termed herself "the Hostess" managed to take remote control of him, forcing him to gather humans to collect power sources for her weapons. Tegan and Turlough were eventually forced to take part in the game, but the Doctor was able to disrupt the entity's control of Kamelion, forcing the Hostess to return to her dimension and be punished by her people for her actions. (AUDIO: Power Game)

As they left York, the TARDIS received a signal from Kamelion's own home planet, drawing him back along with others of his kind. After they followed the signal to a deserted world, the Doctor learned that Kamelion's original designers had been the centre of a vast empire, after the native Kamile uploaded their minds to the Locus when their planet suffered an environmental catastrophe that made it impossible to sustain life, using the Kamelion as a means of remotely enforcing their will on other worlds (the Doctor noted that this didn't match The Master's original description of Kamelion's history, but Kamelion observed that The Master was a notorious liar). Eventually, the Kamile within the Locus came together as four distinct factions that were essentially amalgamations of the original individual personas uploaded into it, titling themselves Authority, Liberty, Harmony and Chaos, with these factions eventually coming into conflict in a day-long war that involved their entire empire and its artificial intelligences, leaving Chaos trapped on that world. Chaos tried to use Kamelion to take control of the TARDIS, but Kamelion retained just enough control of himself to stop his body being used to harm his friends, allowing the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough to thwart Chaos's attempt to change history and then trap him in a secondary console room in the TARDIS before transferring Chaos back into the Locus. Despite Chaos's final defeat, Kamelion initially requested that he be abandoned on that planet so that he couldn't hurt anyone else, only accepting a compromise where he would remain in an isolated room in the TARDIS, trying to protect himself from being used by others against his friends. The Doctor meets three of his other incarnations. (TV: The Five Doctors)

The Doctor took Tegan and Turlough to the Eye of Orion for a rest. On this occasion, the Doctor sent another message to River, asking her if she would join him. (AUDIO: Expiry Dating) However, all four of the Doctor's previous lives were being taken out of his timestream, and he began to fade away. Having his TARDIS forced to the Death Zone on Gallifrey, the Doctor stabilised thanks to the presence of his first incarnation, along with his granddaughter, Susan Foreman.

After encountering the Master and CyberNeomorphs in the Death Zone, the Doctor returned to the Capital, where he learnt President Borusa was trying to gain Rassilon's secret of immortality; he used the Doctors and his companions to clear the way past traps, even hiring the Master to assist him. With the help of his previous incarnations, the Doctor tricked Borusa into falling for Rassilon's final trap. After this, he instructed Rassilon to return his past selves and companions to their original times.

Though appointed Lord President after Borusa's downfall, the Doctor immediately decided to go "on the run" from the Time Lords in his TARDIS. (TV: The Five Doctors) The Doctor retuned to the Eye of Orion however soon afterwards a Raston Warrior Robot was sent by the Time Lords to eliminate him, due to his eighth incarnation visiting his past lives to regain his missing memories. As the robot attacked whatever moved, both Doctors approached it from different directions, confusing it to the point of self-destruction. (PROSE: The Eight Doctors)

Reminders of the past

The Doctor, Tegan and Turlough landed on moon of Verbatim Six, where a set of Novelisors latched onto them. On their next trip they encountered the Ringpull, and the Doctor had to negotiate for Turlough's release when Turlough committed blasphemy according to the people behind the Ringpull. (AUDIO: Ringpullworld)

While answering a distress signal from a cargo ship, the Doctor and Tegan were captured by the Sontarans to force Turlough to pilot a fighter craft against Lieutenant Braast as a rite of initiation for Braast. While Turlough fought Braast, the Doctor was able to remotely override the controls of Braast's ship, and sent him to his superiors in disgrace. (PROSE: Sontar's Little Helpers)

The Doctor received news that the Master had died and, alongside Tegan and Turlough, attended his funeral in an Earth nursing home where he had spent his final days. However, he discovered he had been lured into a trap by his enemy; the Master had faked his own death to steal the Doctor's remaining regenerations, as the Time Lords had taken away his current body. But the Doctor was saved by Turlough, and the Master's plan was foiled. (PROSE: The Velvet Dark)

After leaving the TARDIS without Tegan and Turlough, the Doctor received a warning from Vansell to leave immediately, but was locked out of the TARDIS. Along with a girl named Helen, the Doctor was caught by U-Boat captain Walther Schwieger, and the Time Lords almost assassinated him via a crewmember, but Helen saved him by shooting the crewmember. The Doctor then escaped the boat to return to his TARDIS, but found the doors still locked, and he was taken to Gallifrey by the Temperon to meet with his sixth and seventh incarnations. Learning that Helen was one of the Sirens of Time, the Doctors were almost tricked undoing their altercations to history, but they instead released the Temperon from the Knights of Velyshaa so that it could trap the Sirens of Time in an eternal struggle. With the Sirens of Time's manipulations to history averted, the Fifth Doctor was returned to his proper place in time by the Seventh Doctor. (AUDIO: The Sirens of Time)

River Song finally responded to the Doctor's messages and persuaded him to steal something for her. The Doctor obeyed, and unknowingly robbed his tenth incarnation of a forged Scroll of the Last Days. River then drugged him to make him forget what had happened. (AUDIO: Expiry Dating)

The Doctor laments a regrettable end to hostilities. (TV: Warriors of the Deep)

After receiving damage from Sentinel Six, the Doctor landed the TARDIS inside Sea Base 4 in the year 2084, at a time where two power blocs were on the brink of nuclear war. Three Silurians awoke a colony of Sea Devils from hibernation and intended to take over the base, and trick humanity into waging nuclear war against itself by launching proton missiles into space as a final defensive action of the Silurians. Despite his attempts to convince them otherwise, the Doctor was forced to use hexachromite gas against the reptilian life forms to stop them, and while successfully performing the abort procedure for the missile launch, failed to save any humans inside the base. (TV: Warriors of the Deep)

The Doctor landed the TARDIS in Little Hodcombe in 1984 to meet Tegan's grandfather, Andrew Verney. While in Little Hodcombe, the Doctor discovered a being called the Malus had been feeding off psychic energy generated by the negative emotions caused by the war games being held there, and was being assisted by Sir George Hutchinson. However, the Doctor managed to defeat the Malus and Hutchinson with the help of a schoolteacher called Jane Hampden and Will Chandler from Little Hodcombe in 1643, who was removed from his time by the Malus. (TV: The Awakening)

Info from Fungus needs to be added

While Tegan and Turlough remained in Little Hodcombe, the Doctor answered a distress call from the Reborn Master. He was concerned that the Master had a great scheme when he learned that he had been there for 30 years. (AUDIO: And You Will Obey Me)

The Fifth Doctor teamed up with all of his other incarnations to save Gallifrey from destruction at the end of the Last Great Time War, (TV: The Day of the Doctor) even joining them on the surface of the planet to save people from natural disasters that were occurring as a result of their attempt to shift it into another dimension. Shortly after meeting for tea with his other incarnations to celebrate in the Under Gallery, (PROSE: The Day of the Doctor) the Fifth Doctor lost all memory of the events due to the timelines not being synchronised. (TV: The Day of the Doctor)

The Doctor came to the aid of two snowmen animated by the combined DNA of two human boys and the remains of an alien mosquito, taking them to the North Pole so they would not melt. (PROSE: Do You Smell Carrots?)

After learning that the Master had been impersonating him, the Doctor undid the damage the Master had committed in his name, saving his "companions" as well. When the Master tried to seize the opportunity to unleash a nest of Caliginosity on the Doctor, he and the Master's "companions" managed to drive them away. (PROSE: Anything You Can Do)

The Doctor was involved in a plot involving time leakage and the Jariden Vault of Stellar Curios. He was attacked by a legion of Daleks helped by a Jariden named Colonel Ulrik. He met his eighth incarnation and used their two TARDISes to form a time loop. An older Ulrik appeared before him and sacrificed himself to help the Doctor defeat the Daleks. The Doctor then joined with his sixth, seventh and eighth incarnations briefly before being returned to his own timeline. (AUDIO: The Four Doctors)

While walking in a forest, the Doctor was attacked by time flies. (COMIC: A Stitch in Time)

The Doctor rescues his future daughter. (COMIC: The Lost Dimension)

Rescuing a bowship from the gravitational pull of a white hole devouring the universe, the Fifth Doctor became trapped in the Void along with seven other incarnations. He and the others were able to form a dimensional bridge to allow the Eighth Doctor to escape, and were then joined by the War Doctor, followed shortly by the ninth, tenth and twelfth incarnations, who ventured into the Type 1 TARDIS responsible for the disturbance. Forming a plan with the trapped Eleventh Doctor, the Doctors joined their TARDISes to pacify the Type 1 into a peaceful state and return the universe to normal. (COMIC: The Lost Dimension)

Following an alien signal to 1984 Earth, the Doctor encountered UNIT led by Colonel Price and met their medical officer Daniel Hopkins. He and Hopkins went rogue from UNIT's investigation and traced the alien activity to Annabel Morden's clinic. They found she was luring and vivisecting aliens, so Hopkins called in the troops to shut her clinic down. Interrogating her, the Doctor discovered she was doing this to try to cure her son, who had been fathered by a Helliax and struggled to survive on Earth. After learning that the father had just returned, the Doctor decided to help them leave Earth, against Price's orders. After a tense pursuit, Price reluctantly let him take them away in the TARDIS. (AUDIO: The Helliax Rift)

Aiming for London in 1850, the Doctor was dragged to Paris in 1809 by a temporal anomaly and met Tina Drake, who was investigating the anomaly. Finding a strange door, the Doctor discovered a set of Cybermen in the catacombs and was frozen by them in time. He was woken up by his future incarnation. He worked out that there was a connection between the dates relating to the Cyber incursions related to a transit of Venus. Travelling back to the 18th century with this future self they learnt that the Cyber technology that was part of the legends in the new timeline and found out when to stop their plans.[statement unclear] He used his future self's sonic screwdriver to send the cyber scout back into the early formation of the planet Earth. He then took his future self back to 1944 to retrieve his TARDIS. (AUDIO: The Gates of Hell)

Returning Will home

Fulfilling his promise, the Doctor and Jane tried to take Will back to 1643. Soon after leaving Little Hodcombe, the Doctor, Jane and Will encountered a race of giant lizards. The Doctor succeeded in returning Will home after about a month of trying. (PROSE: The King of Terror) Then, with Jane's help, he acquired a place on the board of governors at Hexen Bridge School so that he could keep an eye on the area. (PROSE: The Hollow Men)

Final adventures with Tegan

During Christmas, the Doctor took Tegan and Turlough shopping in Oxford Street. There, they ran into trouble with the local police. (PROSE: Last Minute Shopping) They later spent Christmas with Iris Wildthyme. (PROSE: The Scarlet Empress)

In 1st century England, the Doctor met Ffion, a druid soothsayer, after she saved Tegan from being attacked by Romans. He became embroiled in the battle between Druids and Romans and witnessed many Druid slaughters. However, he managed to save Ffion and his friends by instructing Kamelion to disguise himself as a Roman soldier. Saddened by the deaths, the Doctor reluctantly stopped Ffion from wiping out of the Romans as it would change history. (PROSE: The Fall of the Druids)

The Doctor attempts to negotiate with the Judoon. (COMIC: The Forgotten)

While holidaying at Smithwood Manor, the Doctor was playing a game of cricket when he encountered the Judoon, who had come to Earth to retrieve the Eye of Akasha, which the Doctor had. The Doctor was willing to hand the Eye over to them, but the Judoon immediately threatened Tegan's life and demanded the Eye from the Doctor. Upset that his friends were being threatened unnecessarily, the Doctor pretended to hand over the Eye, but switched it out with a cricket ball. Due to the two items looking similar, the Judoon assumed the item had simply changed molecular properties and left. (COMIC: The Forgotten)

The TARDIS was torn apart by the Tractators after being pulled to the planet Frontios. These aliens were stranded on the planet and needed wreckage to make a functional ship. The Doctor tricked them into rebuilding the TARDIS, with their leader, the Gravis, inside, separating him from the rest of the Tractators and leaving them without their hive mind. (TV: Frontios)

While attempting to transport the Gravis to Kolkokron with Tegan, the Doctor crashed on the planet Artaris, where he met Lord Grayvorn, who was on a quest to look for and artefact called "the Relic". After arriving in a nunnery to get the maps to find the Relic, the Doctor encountered Iris Wildthyme, who accompanied them on their quest. When they discovered the location of the Relic, they found that it was being guarded by zombies that were resurrected by the Relic. However, they managed to steal the Relic and arrived back at the convent. Upon their return to the convent, Grayvorn and the Mother Superior fought over the Relic and fell off the convent bell tower to their apparent deaths. The Relic was lost again. (AUDIO: Excelis Dawns) After an inadvertent stop on Queth, (PROSE: Life After Queth) the Doctor and Tegan left the Gravis on a barren, rocky planet called Kolkokron. (TV: Frontios)

The Doctor and Tegan visited Camelot, where they met King Arthur and discovered the Master was disguising himself as Merlin, in a plot to help Mordred successfully kill Arthur at the Battle of Camlaan. The Doctor assisted Arthur in forming the Knights of the Round Table to protect Camelot against dark forces and broke the Master's hold over him, having him banished from the kingdom afterwards. (PROSE: The Creation of Camelot) The Doctor and Tegan also had "a particularly lively visit" to the planet Nocturne. (AUDIO: Nocturne)

The Doctor took Tegan back in time to kill a baby destined to grow up into a dictator who would doom the Earth. However, he was unable to go through with the act, and left. (PROSE: Categorical Imperative)

Making plans to return to Frontios for Turlough, the Doctor and Tegan were drawn to Gallifrey by Chancellor Vorena and Castellan Lowri so that the Doctor would be forced into his role as Lord President, as Borusa's political manipulations in anticipation of his immortality had left the High Council unfit to carry out the necessary reforms after Borusa had created a system that depended on his presence, with the Doctor being chosen as the only candidate with the political strength to get things done. With Leela as his unofficial bodyguard and Tegan appointed as Earth's ambassador to justify her continued presence on Gallifrey, the Doctor used the opportunity to make some changes to Gallifrey's political process that he felt were necessary, such as opening new Academies capable of conferring the rank of Time Lord to their students.

After a short time in power, during which he conducted a diplomatic mission and averted a student creating a catastrophic paradox, the Doctor finally opened the new Capitol building accompanied by Vorena, Leela and Lowri. After they encountered dimensional anomalies, Vorena confessed the building was a giant TARDIS which she had arranged for him so that he could lead the Time Lords in righting the evils of the cosmos. He eventually chose to reject her offer, with Leela helping the Doctor recognise that taking such a stance would turn himself and his people into tyrants enforcing their will on other civilisations. They were rescued from the malfunctioning giant TARDIS by Tegan and the Doctor took the opportunity to relinquish the presidency, passing it on to Lowri, and depart Gallifrey once more. (AUDIO: Time in Office)

Aided by his other incarnations and their companions, the Fifth Doctor and Tegan helped Dan Dare to fight off the Mekon and his army of Treens, Daleks, Ice Warriors, Cybermen, Sontarans and Draconians in 1991. (COMIC: Comic Relief Comic) They were also present in London during the coronation of Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953, where they encountered a snake creature that was subdued by Eva De Ville. (COMIC: Where's the Doctor?)

The Doctor helped Konis to build a new world for his people but lost his memory once inside. After discovering the truth of Konis' world, Tegan arrived and told him how to get out. He worked out that Volos had created the Vodyani. He tricked the Vodyani back into the reality engine and created a copy of himself to help Volos out of the machine. (AUDIO: Nightmare Country)

After many detours, the Doctor and Tegan collected Turlough from Frontios and became caught in a time corridor. (TV: Frontios) Escaping from the time corridor, the TARDIS crew found themselves in Snowdonia, Wales during a UNIT training excerise where they seemingly reunite with the Brigadier. Uncovering a plot orchestrated by the Autons and the Master, who had disguised himself as the Brigadier, the Doctor was captured to be used as a "keystone" for an ancient Vortex Driller.

He was later rescued by Turlough and the real Brigadier, who had encountered an earlier version of the Doctor inhabiting an Auton duplicate body. They escaped back to Snowdonia through a bridge connecting it to the Driller, which proceeded to close and leaving the Doctor's TARDIS as an empty shell. The Doctor proceeded to use the Master's TARDIS, having discovered it disguised as a circus tent earlier on, to track down where the Driller is heading: Saturn.

Arriving back onboard the Vortex Driller, the Doctor witnessed the Nestene Consciousness attempt to take control of the Driller. Contacted by Kamelion and his earlier self, now a psychic projection, the Doctor headed off alongside Tegan in the Master's TARDIS to help forumlate a plan of stopping the Consciousness. He didn't recall leaping through his personal timeline, nor did Tegan remember him collapsing after departing the Urbankan spaceship, leading to the Doctor to realise that his earlier self was actually a disintegrating splinter.

After successfully defeating the Consciousness, the Doctor told his splinter that he cannot return to his point of origin, especially with the knowledge of Adric's death. Instead, he watched as the splinter made "one last adventure" into the future where he would then fade away. With the TARDIS interior reinstated by Kamelion, the TARDIS crew departed from Wales, only to be targeted by another time corridor. (AUDIO: The Auton Infinity)

Falling through the time corridor, the Doctor ran into the Daleks loyal to Davros at the London Docks in 1984. The Doctor failed to stop them from attacking the prison ship that he placed Davros in years previously. After resisting the urge to kill Davros in cold blood, the Doctor unleashed the Movellan virus, which destroyed the Daleks.

Having won against Davros, the Doctor was dismayed when Tegan, tiring of the violence and death she had encountered during their adventures, chose to remain in her home time. After she ran away from the TARDIS, the Doctor acknowledged that he needed to change his ways. (TV: Resurrection of the Daleks)

Lone travels with Turlough

Landing in the 18th century, the Doctor and Turlough discovered that an alien psychopathic murderer Carthok had crashed on Earth. Learning that he wanted to kill all life on Earth, the Doctor tricked Carthok's own system into thinking he was one of his targets and his was ripped apart by his former victims' consciousnesses. (AUDIO: Phantasmagoria)

In Brazil in 2080, the Doctor and Turlough encountered a band of Loups-garoux whose leader, Ileana de Santos, became attracted to the Doctor. After Pieter Stubbe forcibly took over the group to have Ileana as his mate and set them against humans, the Doctor challenged him. After halting the group's rampage in Rio de Janeiro by planting doubts about Stubbe's leadership, the Doctor tricked him into entering the TARDIS, taking him far away from Earth which caused him to die. Afterwards he said a private farwell to Ileana. (AUDIO: Loups-Garoux)

During a visit to the human colony world of Raghi, the Doctor and Turlough discovered a strange new disease that was sweeping the colony, as well as several missing scientists, but soon determined that the Sontarans were the parties responsible for these events. The Doctor realised that Raghi's entire population was being used as bait for a trap, as the disease caused all humans infected with it to register as Sontarans on the Rutan scanners, which would prompt the Rutans to avoid that area of space, and thus give the Sontarans unrestricted access to the Tzun technology hidden on the planet. Contacting the Rutans, the Doctor managed to make a deal with them, exchanging the truth about the colony, while avoiding mentioning the Tzun technology, for their promise not to harm the humans, provoking a conflict between the two enemies that essentially destroyed both parties. (PROSE: Lords of the Storm)

On Heracletus, a planet that had been trapped a time loop by the Time Lords, the Doctor lost the TARDIS and met an alternative version of himself called "the Savant". He and Turlough stopped the Savant, along with the magical being, Spline, from taking revenge on the Time Lords and destroying the fabric of time, before quickly locating the TARDIS before the time loop trapped Heracletus for eternity. (PROSE: Zeitgeist)

The discovery of a mysterious diary in the Time safe led to the Doctor and Turlough learning of the existence of the British Imperial Spacefleet and their trip to the Moon in 1878, as well as their own role in the expedition. Travelling to 1878, the Doctor and Turlough became involved in the expedition's efforts to rescue Captain Richard Haliwell and Emily Boyes-Dennison after they were captured by the Warden, the expedition joining forces with the Phiadorans in the process. The expedition was able to destroy the Warden's citadel, but, after the Doctor was trapped in the dying park and rescued by Kamelion, he realised that the Phiadorans were actually being used as hosts by the ruthless Vrall. Using advanced weapons salvaged from the park, the Doctor, Turlough and Kamelion were able to destroy the Vrall, followed by Kamelion posing as Prince Albert to convince Queen Victoria to abandon the space program, although Richard Haliwell gave the Doctor his diary so that some record of the expedition would remain. (PROSE: Imperial Moon)

Travelling into the past to witness the first encounter of the Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon Man, the Doctor set up a camp and allowed Turlough to leave in his TARDIS, waiting six months until his ship finally returned. However, the Doctor's presence prevented the Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon Man's meeting and caused the death of a Neanderthal, which upset the Doctor. (PROSE: Observation)

The Doctor and Turlough became caught up in the American Civil War in December 1861 and met a dying man, called Samuel, who existed in two different timelines. (PROSE: Comforts of Home)

Soon after, the Doctor and Turlough manufactured a cure for the Atkyan plague that nearly destroyed the Atkyan species. When the cure transformed them into an aggressive species as a side-effect, the Doctor created a stabilising agent that blocked out the side-effect and returned the Atkyan to normal. He was later devastated when he received a mind-link from his second incarnation, telling him that his cure had halved the Atkyans' life expectancy, which wiped out the entire race. (PROSE: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back)

The Doctor planed to show Turlough a beautiful place to paint but went to the wrong place. They decided to explore this location and learnt that the place stored memories. They learnt that the Hux was behind this. (AUDIO: The Memory Bank) On a second attempt, they travelled to Vadhoc, where they encountered Grayling Frimlish. Diamon welcomed them to her village. The Doctor was accused of being a story teller who branded people a witch. (AUDIO: The Last Fairy Tale) After defeating the Bratanian Shroud who possessed Kat Gunnarsdottir, her wife Lara Jensen thought the Doctor was robbing the place. Inspector Jill Sveinsdóttir arrested him and the Doctor thought he was being framed. He discovered that Turlough had been possessed by the Shroud and defeated it by turning off the city's data flow. (AUDIO: Repeat Offender) Wanting to explore an unmapped planet, the Doctor and Turlough discovered an agrarian society. He helped the Waywalker in her endeavours to get to a coming of age ceremony. (AUDIO: The Becoming)

The Doctor and Turlough landed on Testament when the human empire was centred there. He was delighted to eventually visit there but was concerned when noone knew how the power was generated. He learnt from Katherine Ellison that she predicted the energy increase would cause an explosion. He found it appalling that the humans were exploiting the Blinovitch Limitation Effect as an energy source. After the explosion, Horobin thought the Doctor was a saboteur and didn't think that he was right about the explosion. He was told that Turlough had died in the explosion by Violet Hardaker. He wanted the planet imploded to stop the explosion and tried to explain this to the prime minister. He wasn't sure that he wanted to go through with the explosion as it would kill a culture. (AUDIO: The Blazing Hour)

On a visit to Syria, the Doctor and Turlough were pursued by John Quarrington for information about a lost city. Ibrahim rescued him before being shot. He tracked a signal pulsating in time and space. Ibrahim told him of a legend concerning Gostak who the Doctor knew from his days in the academy. Gostak left a data crystal for him. He was then abducted by Vakrass. He took him and Turlough to his base of operations near the fabled location of the lost moon of Botoya. The Doctor encountered his Sixth and Eighth incarnations. On Vakrass' request, the Doctors travelled to the lost moon of Gallifrey, via a portal formed by the medallions each Doctor had found, to find Gostak. The Doctors learned that the moon was a complex temporal manipulation device that Gostak intended to use to undo the last few thousand millennia to re-establish the Time Lords as a vast empire. The Doctors refused to help his plans, with Gostak's efforts to force their aid being cut short as the Doctors turned the moon's power against itself, aided by the arrival of the Seventh Doctor with a control rod for the moon's system. The Doctor and Turlough went to Lanzarote on 9 May 1984 after Kamelion received a distress signal. Turlough brought on board an American girl, Peri Brown, whom he had saved from drowning. The Doctor piloted the TARDIS to Sarn, a colony world of banished Trions. Kamelion had fallen under the Master's control again and was fronting for him as the god Logar. Though he could not prevent the Master from using the flames to return to full power, the Doctor fiddled with the controls, leaving him to burn to death. Now free of the Master's control, Kamelion begged for death, and the Doctor used the TCE on him. Turlough wished to return home, as his exile from Trion had long been ended. The Doctor took Peri on as his new companion for the last three months of her summer vacation. (TV: Planet of Fire)

When a summons from medieval England seemed an unsuitable place to start her travels, the Doctor had Peri remain in the TARDIS library while he investigated. He found that his first incarnation had called upon him and his other incarnations to help him escape a castle surrounded by knights that mistook him for a kidnapper holding Lady Mary hostage in his TARDIS. After he lost the contest to determine who would face the knights, the Fifth Doctor approached the knights to explain the situation and was able to retrieve Mary from the First Doctor's TARDIS. As the Doctors were now permitted to leave, the Fifth Doctor saw that Peri was still travelling with the Sixth Doctor, and realised he would soon regenerate. (PROSE: Five Card Draw)

On their first adventure proper together, the Doctor and Peri led a rebellion on the planet N'Tia, and were hunted by service robots. During this adventure, Peri considered leaving the Doctor as the strain of his dangerous adventures became too much for her. However, the Doctor took her to see a beautiful nightscape with shooting stars, which convinced her to continue travelling aboard the TARDIS. (PROSE: Light at the End of the Tunnel)

After seeing Les Misérables with Peri, the Doctor played a simulation of two species evolving, and attempted to find a way for the two to evolve without conflict. Being unable to solve it, and with the simulation taking up too much space, the Doctor took it to the Proofrock-Mills Intelligence Museum. He then visited the museum a year later and discovered that the problem had had been solved by one of future incarnations. (PROSE: Black and White)

While taking a shopping trip, the Doctor and Peri became caught up in the various quests to find the legendary lost treasure of Rovan Cartovall, who had supposedly vanished centuries ago. Despite some of their more ruthless fellow seekers attempting to use Peri as a hostage to guarantee the Doctor's help in solving the traps, the Doctor and Peri were protected by a unicorn-like entity Peri came to call "Red", who was actually an aspect of Kamelion that had survived his death and been given a new temporary lease of life. Although "Red" sacrificed himself to save Peri, the Doctor was left satisfied as he learned the truth about Cartovall's disappearance, as the man had abandoned his wealth to explore the limitless possibilities of the universe. Other seekers for the treasure either departed satisfied with what they had or were destroyed by their own greed as various traps and twists left them suffocated or locked in artificial realities. (PROSE: The Ultimate Treasure)

On early 21st century Mars, the Doctor and Peri arrived inside the final resting place of the Ice Warrior, Izdaal. After discovering a team from the Argosy enter the tomb at the same time, the Doctor, Commander Lee Forbes and Pilot Susan Roberts travelled to the centre, where the Ice Warriors that guarded the tomb awoke from protecting Izdaal's body. While Peri went to the Argosy to pick up a survival suit, Sub Commander Sstast went to the Argosy to retrieve Peri and the others, but was knocked out by Paul Webster to create a clone army augmented by Ice Warrior biology and technology.

As the Argosy took off, it was fired at with missiles from the tomb, but the Doctor prevented the Ice Warriors from finishing them off. The Argosy crash-landed and Peri, Paul and Tanya Webster returned to the tomb of Izdaal. After Paul took over an Ice Warrior mobile cannon with Tanya and the Doctor as hostage, Lord Zzaal agreed to take the Doctor's place for the safety of the tomb and allowing Paul access to the Ice Warriors' rocket. As the sun rose, the ultraviolet radiation from the "red dawn" burnt Zzaal to death. With Zzaal no longer in mortal danger, Ssast fired a sonic charge at Paul without endangering Zzaal's life. The Doctor and Tanya ran from Paul and survived the attack, returning to the tomb. (AUDIO: Red Dawn)

Visiting Wembley in 1936 to see the FA Cup final, the Doctor helped Edward Grainger to entrap Scanlon, a time meddler who had been stealing famous paintings throughout Earth's history. The Doctor frightened Scanlon away from Earth by threatening him with Time Lord retribution if his meddling continued. (PROSE: The Church of Football)

During a visit to World War I, the Doctor became separated from Peri in the trenches, but she was found in time to enjoy the Christmas Armistice. While waiting for her, the Doctor talked with Edward Woodbourne. (PROSE: Never Seen Cairo)

When a serious injury forced the Doctor to take Peri to Sarn for treatment by Mehendri Solon, he was forced to become the leader of a military campaign against the renegade Time Lord Morbius, adopting the new alias of the "Supreme Coordinator", or "the Supremo" for short, of a large army including the Draconians, Sontarans, Ice Warriors, Cybermen and Ogrons. Eventually, the Doctor's army was able to defeat Morbius's forces, although the Doctor was then forced to make a discreet departure after ensuring that Morbius would survive his death. (PROSE: Warmonger)

Second quest for the Key to Time

Shortly after leaving Mars, the Doctor visited a rainy planet with Peri. He discovered a compass, which was actually a segment of the Key to Time, from one of the derelict ships, The Green Man's Burden. After time was frozen, a sentient tracer sent by the Grace to collect the Key to Time brought the TARDIS off course, asking the Doctor if he could help her collect two more segments of the Key, which had been decaying after the Doctor put it together the previous time. The tracer turned the first segment into its original form and put it into a satchel leading to another universe.

Arriving on Mars in the distant past, the Doctor decided to name the Tracer "Amy", thinking she had agreed upon the name. Amy realised the segment of the Key was disguised as a capstone on the pyramid in the town. The Doctor and Amy were arrested and taken to Magistrate Isskar, accused of being thieves by Isskar's beadles. They were let go with a warning not to approach the pyramid. Understanding but disobeying the warning, the Doctor and Amy met another tracer inside the pyramid, and she already had one of the segments of the Key in her possession, along her assistant in her quest, Harmonious 14 Zink. The Tracer agreed to the Doctor's suggestion of "Zara" as a name. At the top of the pyramid, Zara touched the segment and turned it back into a crystal. This caused a gravity well to appear, causing massive changes to Mars' environment. Zara left with the segment using Zink's Time Ring. The Doctor, Amy and Zink jumped on board an approaching ship, and the Doctor piloted it to safety. Unable to help the catastrophe inflicted on Mars, the Doctor and Amy left in the TARDIS for their next destination. They arrived inside a castle on the ring world of Safeplace, where there was a succession dispute between the Valdigians Lady Mesca Amuntic and Wembik. The Doctor concocted an anti-venom for Mesca, whom Wembik had poisoned because she refused to allow Mesca's son to become king.

Meanwhile, the Ice Warriors, led by Isskar, were guided to Safeplace by Zara to find the next segment, and began fighting the Valdigians. When the Ice Warriors were repelled, Amy worked out a compromise between Mesca and Wembik; they agreed to be married to one another, so that no matter whose son became king, he would also be the son of the other one. While the Doctor asked Isskar to speak to him, his men brought Amy outside the castle grounds. Zara realised the castle was the next segment and turned it into a crystal, trapping the Doctor, the TARDIS, the Valdigians and Isskar inside. The Doctor struggled to hold on, before Amy, having received the segment in her battle with Zara, turned the segment back into a castle, allowing the Doctor, the Ice Warriors and the Valdigians to escape. Amy then turned it back into a crystal and placed it into her satchel.

The Ice Warriors took the Doctor and Amy onto Isskar's ship to take them as tribunal; Isskar confiscated the segments and sent the TARDIS overboard while the ship was in hyperspace in the event of the Doctor and Amy's escape. Zara, being unable to detect Amy's segments, travelled back in time with the time ring, having "wrecked the controls" of the ship. The ship was on a collision course with the red giant, Leboon. Isskar showed Amy her segments, hidden outside time inside a strongbox, which Amy opened. When the last escape pod was taken, leaving the Doctor and Amy behind, the Doctor tried fixing the ship, before the Black Guardian intervened, telling the Doctor that he hoped the Doctor could explain the situation. (AUDIO: The Judgement of Isskar)

The Black Guardian showed the Doctor and Amy a set of potential locations for the Key. Noticing that the Black Guardian was being methodical in his approach, the Doctor told him to randomly send the Doctor and Amy to a location. Landing in Sudan in the 9th century, the Doctor encountered the White Guardian whose powers had waned and was posing as Legate of the Caliph going after tax evaders. He then discovered that the Black Guardian was a tax evader, who was hoarding gold to allow his compatriot the Djinn to repair his ship. When this happened, the Doctor realised that the Guardians had to be involved in its creation and it was beyond time. The Djinn had recovered his TARDIS and he left with Amy for the final piece. (AUDIO: The Destroyer of Delights)

Landing on a Teuthoidian ship, the Doctor encountered Astra who was now president on a rival ship which the Teuthodian's kept attacking. Having being transported to Astra's ship, she told him that she had been living for longer than her fellow Atrions due to the affect of her being released from the Key. Crashing on the planet Chaos, he realised that Zara had kidnapped Amy as Zara thought that he would lead her to the last segment. Having contacted Romana II in the confusion, thinking that Astra was her, the Doctor discovered that after the Key was scattered the last time, Romana had become the final segment of it. To save Romana's life, Astra offered to become the final segment instead, even if it involved her dying to do so. When the White and Black Guardians arrived to try to take the Key away from the Doctor, the Doctor threw it into the Chaos Pool, where it was destroyed, preventing the degradation that it was causing to the universe. While the Guardians left empty handed, Romana returned to Gallifrey, allowing Amy and Zara to accompany her. (AUDIO: The Chaos Pool)

On a trip to Egypt in 1400 BC with Peri, the Doctor helped save the young pharaoh Erimem from rebels and a conspiracy. He subsequently discovered an alien parasite that infected people by touch and controlled them as a hive mind and helped defeat it. Erimem decided to leave her throne to a distant relative and travel with the Doctor and Peri. (AUDIO: The Eye of the Scorpion)

On their way to the Braxiatel Collection, they landed in the 17th century, where Peri was kidnapped as she looked like Queen Anne. Leaving Erimem with Louis XIII, the Doctor went after her and discovered that one of the Queens former lovers, George Villiers, was planning to invade France. (AUDIO: The Church and the Crown)

After visiting a number of places, including Prelax where the trio went to a costume party against the Doctor's wishes, Erimem was given a tour of the TARDIS. During this tour, they found a mutated Rovie who tried to take control of the ship, taunting him with mouse-based insults which provoked him into leaving himself vulnerable. Erimem smashed his machine and set Antranak on him. (AUDIO: No Place Like Home)

They visited a market in the Garazone system. Erimem learned of a mystery in the Nelromanteia system, where a war between humanoid soldiers and witches was being fought. The witches killed the Doctor, and he entered a dreamlike plain and learned that the war was over a device that gave immortality. The god of the witches resurrected him and the Doctor, Peri and Erimem escaped before the planet exploded. (AUDIO: Nekromanteia)

Finding the TARDIS diverted to the Axis, the Doctor discovered Jarra To, an insane scientist from one of the Axis' dead-end timelines, had compromised the facility and killed the Overseer. With the aid of a fellow survivor of Jarra's timeline, Tog, he, Peri and Erimem denied Jarra To the chance to steal his TARDIS and escape the Axis. The Doctor subsequently resolved to arrange a new Overseer's appointment and fulfill Tog's wishes to put his insane timeline out of its misery. (AUDIO: The Axis of Insanity)

The Doctor took Peri and Erimem to 1917 Tibet so he could play in a cricket match. There a Great Old One sought to manifest via Erimem, which the Doctor furiously confronted whilst Peri used liquid nitrogen to freeze the manifestations. The Doctor subsequently arranged for the frozen forms to be entombed with explosives and comforted Erimem. (AUDIO: The Roof of the World)

The Doctor, Peri and Erimem visited Nicaea in 325 AD, where they found themselves in the middle of a religious conflict. (AUDIO: The Council of Nicaea)

The Doctor became separated from Peri and Erimem who were stranded in 15th century Earth. The Doctor became unravelled in the mystery of who killed the princes in the Tower but eventually reunited with his companions. The Doctor realised that the original Shakespeare left his time in 1597 and was killed in 1485, only for Richard III to return to 1597 and take the prematurely deceased writer's place (AUDIO: The Kingmaker)

Tracking an energy-generating glove to the East End, the Doctor found it in the possession of gangster Charlie Shutter. Fearful of the glove's growing power, the Doctor was forced to go on a crime spree with Charlie and his hitman, Jack. After a week of criminal activities, the Doctor and Charlie plotted to steal a second glove from Charlie's rival, Mickey Green. However, Charlie double-crossed the Doctor and ordered Jack to kill him, Peri and Erimem, but the Doctor had secretly been giving the police information of Charlie's criminal activities, ending his criminal empire. After convincing Jack to change his ways, the Doctor took the gloves to a place where they couldn't be used to cause chaos. (PROSE: The Gangster's Story)

The Doctor went to the Gogglebox inside the Moon, though his intended destination was the Ice Caves of Shabadabadon. The TARDIS detected unusual energy signatures which appeared throughout Earth history, including 1984 and 2006. As he detected a television transmission which indicated that a future incarnation was investigating 1984, the Doctor went to Brisbane, Australia on 22 September 2006.

While in Brisbane, he met up with Tegan, as well as Dr. Katherine Chambers, who seemed to know about him, and learned that Tegan had contracted an alien brain tumour that was killing her. He offered to take her some place her tumour could be cured, but she was kidnapped by Katherine and an accomplice. Katherine revealed she had been Peri's best friend when they were in school, and that the Doctor, in his next incarnation, would be involved in a plot involving the Cybermen that would result in the paralysis of Katherine's brother and the death of her father. Katherine kidnapped Tegan for the first patient of her new medical computer. The Doctor stopped Katherine and offered Tegan a chance to travel with him again, but she refused, having grown accustomed to her life on Earth. (AUDIO: The Gathering)

Landing on YT45, the Doctor, Peri and Erimem became affected by the Kyropites. Not being as affected by the plants as his companions, the Doctor discovered that the Hayton wanted to sell their properties on the open market. Learning that eventually the plants would kill his friends, he used his psychic abilities to enter their dreams. Though he convinced Erimem that she wasn't the ruler of a new Egyptian colony, he had a harder time convincing Peri that she wasn't married with kids. (AUDIO: The Mind's Eye)

The Doctor, Peri and Erimem answered a distress call from the Ice Warrior prince and ambassador, Zixlyr in the 41st century. Zixlyr had blown up an explosive within his ship to smuggle a Xanthoid volataliser onto Peladon after his sister, the previous ambassador to Peladon, Alixlyr, had disappeared; he claimed he had been attacked by Arcturans and knew that if he entered Peladon through more conventional means, the volataliser would have been detected. As the ship began to fall towards Peladon, part of the ship's hull broke off, leaving the TARDIS around Peladon's orbit and making escape impossible. The Doctor, Peri and Erimem helped Zixlyr safely crash land the ship as it entered Peladon's atmosphere, crashing it into a forest. Zixlyr and Peri went to the citadel of Peladon, while Erimem took care of the Doctor as he recovered.

An Aggedor, the daughter of the late Aggedor the Third Doctor had befriended, began approaching the Doctor and Erimem. The Doctor used Erimem's signet ring to hypnotise and tame her. Queen Belldonia of the royal house of Peladon discovered them while on a hunt and escorted the Doctor and Erimem back to the citadel.

An explosion set off by the criminal Arktos and his accomplice, Elkin, had ripped apart the floor of the nearby mines, killing the miners inside. Within the wreckage, Erimem discovered a message in Egyptian hieroglyphs warning of the Osiran Sekhmet, whom the Egyptians worshipped as a god. The Doctor found a secret passageway leading to Sekhmet's trisilicate tomb, where three of her four blood locks had been broken after she fed on the blood of three royal women, including Alixlyr and the newly crowned King Pelleas' predecessor, Queen Elspera, and used the Aggedor to break down the door. Erimem offered her blood to Sekhmet, but had poisoned it with mandrake root that was inside her ring. Zixlyr grabbed onto Sekhmet and set the countdown on his volataliser. Zixlyr sealed the chamber, blowing himself up along with Sekhmet. The Doctor and Erimem escaped, but Erimem was still dying from her poison. Peri used the Time Lord biochemistry in the Doctor's blood to revive Erimem by performing a "very crude" blood transfusion on her.

King Pelleas proposed to Erimem, and she accepted. She parted company from Peri and the Doctor, staying behind to rule Peladon. The Doctor and Peri departed for the TARDIS, still in orbit around Peladon with the help of Alpha Centauri's ship. (AUDIO: The Bride of Peladon)

Final travels

Shortly after Erimem's departure, the Doctor and Peri went on a holiday to Grallista Social. During a party, Peri contracted a mutagenic virus which began turning everyone nearby into duplicates of her, including the Doctor. The Viyrans intervened and cured the infected. (AUDIO: Mission of the Viyrans)

The Doctor and Peri went to the medieval village of Sair and discovered the elders of the town were using witchcraft to ensure the population's survival. One of the elders, Tabilibik, cast a spell on Peri that made her fall in love with him and become his devoted slave. Assisted by the other elders, the Doctor broke the spell and ensured that Tabilibik was punished for abusing his powers. (PROSE: Fascination)

Tracking members of the Celestial Intervention Agency, the Doctor and Peri set up a restaurant, and served the CIA agents food spiked with a vaccine to a virus that they had picked up while investigating the Doctor's recent actions on the planet Pointy. (AUDIO: Urban Myths)

Seeing that Zarl was bragging on a social media site about his plans on Earth, the Doctor and Peri travelled to Earth in Los Angeles 2009 to stop him. They encountered an older version of Peri, who told the Doctor that Zarl had come to Earth to die and that the Doctor needed to kill Zarl. The Doctor decided that he wouldn't do this. (AUDIO: Peri and the Piscon Paradox)

Death

The Doctor experiences hallucinations of his previous companions as he regenerates. (TV: The Caves of Androzani)

Arriving on Androzani Minor, the Doctor and Peri were caught in a struggle over the mineral spectrox. As they dealt with gun runners, government troops, crooked politicians and a masked madman called Sharaz Jek, the Doctor and Peri were exposed to raw spectrox and contracted the fatal Spectrox toxaemia. Through a perilous descent into the lower caves of the planet, the Doctor managed to get his hands on the milk of a queen bat, the only known cure for the poisoning, but he was only able to recover one dose. He then chose to give Peri the dose, saving her life at the cost of his own.

Succumbing to the poisoning, the Doctor collapsed on the floor of the TARDIS, not entirely sure if he would regenerate, commenting aloud that the regenerative process "[felt] different this time". (TV: The Caves of Androzani) During his regeneration, the Tremas Master tried to interfere via Kamelion's lingering connection to the TARDIS, but the Doctor was saved by Nyssa and her husband, Lasarti, who connected with him in his mindscape and helped break the mental link allowing the Master to block his regeneration. (AUDIO: Winter) Seeing visions of his former companions urging him to live and insisting that the universe still had need of him, the Doctor rejected the Master's assertion that he must die and regenerated into his sixth incarnation. In a bid to detach the Funhouse from the TARDIS in the time vortex, the Sixth Doctor binded the switch that protected the TARDIS' passengers from the changing time fields outside with a string, allowing him to pull it remotely from the limited protection of the Zero Room. As a result, the Doctor immediately began to regress back through his first five incarnations as he made his way back to the console room where, as the First Doctor, he flipped the switch back, restoring himself while trapping the Funhouse in the vortex. (COMIC: Funhouse)

During his seventh incarnation, the mental manifestation of the Fifth Doctor was locked away by the others so that the Doctor could do what he believed he had to do in order to stop the powerful Timewyrm, but when Ace found herself trapped in the Doctor's mind when the Doctor's plan to destroy the Timewyrm by crushing it in his head would have killed her as well, she found and released the trapped Fifth Doctor, restoring the Doctor's conscience and inspiring the Seventh Doctor to find another way. (PROSE: Timewyrm: Revelation)

In a negated timeline, the Doctor and Nyssa followed mysterious coordinates to 23 November 1963, but the Doctor landed the TARDIS earlier than the coordinates indicated to avoid a trap. Investigating their surroundings, the Doctor and Nyssa were approached by Bob Dovie, who mistook them for the police officers he had contacted about his missing family, and discovered that Dovie's wife and children had been murdered by the Decayed Master. As they made their way back to the TARDIS, Dovie followed them, and his refusal to believe in the TARDIS set off the conceptual bomb the Master had planted on him, causing the TARDIS to explode, but the Doctor was saved by his sixth incarnation. Joining with his other selves to formulate a plan to stop the Master, the Fifth Doctor realised the solution was to visit Dovie a year earlier and introduce him to the TARDIS, so that he would find it more believable when he had the conceptual bomb and it would not go off. Once his plan succeeded, the Fifth Doctor joined his other seven incarnations in preparing to time ram the Master's TARDIS. However, rather than kill the Master, the First Doctor instead turned off the automatic distress actions, which had brought all of the Doctors to the pocket dimension and triggered the TARDIS' destruction, making it so none of that had happened. In a splintered timeline, (AUDIO: The Auton Infinity) after departing from the Urbankan spaceship, the Doctor passed out almost immediately after Nyssa collapsed, and found himself pulled along his own timeline. He first ended up in the body of his future self, at a point where Adric had "left" the TARDIS and Tegan had recently resumed her travels with him and Nyssa. The Doctor soon discovered the TARDIS had jumped back along her temporal vector, looking for a stable time track, and he believed he has done the same thing. (AUDIO: Secrets of Telos)

Next, he found himself in the body of his "near-future" self, with the TARDIS having just arrived in 9th century Iceland. He is relieved to see Adric again and, during an encounter with Ice Warriors, confides in him about his recent "time shifting" as he had done so with the future Nyssa and Tegan. After defeating the Ice Warriors, the Doctor felt himself be pulled along his timeline once again (AUDIO: God of War) and woke up in a cell next to the Brigadier, who recognised his current incarnation. He then reunited with Tegan, explaining how he had time shifted again, which becomes clear when he fails to recognise Turlough.

The Doctor is soon briefed on the Autons and the "Tremas" Master's scheme and, during an encounter with a Nestene, discovered that he is not in the body of his future self, but rather an Auton duplicate. He is later confronted by the Master, who initially believed him to merely be a convincing double, but soon realised he can use the "Auton Doctor" as a replacement "keystone" for piloting the Vortex Driller after the "future Doctor" escapes. Due to the Doctor being in an Auton body, the process did not work correctly and caused the "Auton Doctor" to be displaced once again, only this time he ended up as a psychic projection within his TARDIS next to another future companion called Kamelion.

After making contact with his future self, the Doctor helped formulate a plan to stop the Nestene Consciousness taking control of the Driller. After successfully defeating the Consciousness, it is revealed that the displaced Doctor was actually a disintegrating splinter and could no longer return to his intial point of origin. The splinter was allowed to make one last trip into the future, where he met Peri and positively reflected on his future before fading away. (AUDIO: The Auton Infinity)

Parallel universes

In the Warrior's universe, the Fourth Doctor was forced to regenerate into his fifth incarnation from a Dalek blast after killing the Daleks, as compared to his N-Space counterpart not killing them. (AUDIO: Dust Devil)

Psychological profile

Personality

The Doctor reassures his friends on their predicament. (TV: Four to Doomsday)

Practicing good manners in the hopes that people would give him "the benefit of the doubt" he was non-hostile and share their resources, (TV: Kinda, Snakedance) the Fifth Doctor saw "small beautiful events" as being "what life [was] all about", (TV: Earthshock) and would go against the rules to offer a helping hand wherever he found someone in need, (TV: Earthshock, Terminus, Frontios) being willing to make enormous personal sacrifices simply to keep his friends safe and liberate others from suffering, (TV: Mawdryn Undead, The Caves of Androzani) and would try to stop and help others with their mundane troubles while in the middle of dealing with greater threats. (TV: Arc of Infinity)

He could see the qualities in others and sought to bring out their potential. (TV: Castrovalva) He was even willing to take chances with companions like Vislor Turlough and Kamelion, who were originally threats, (TV: Mawdryn Undead, The King's Demons) even as he pretended to be unaware of it in order to grant Turlough the opportunity to do the right thing. (TV: Enlightenment) However, he tried to avoid confrontation with his companions when they were upset with him, opting to ignore them until they had calmed down. (TV: The Visitation, Earthshock) According to Tegan Jovanka, he would often "take everything in [his] stride", (TV: The King's Demons) and downplayed how events went when explaining them to people. (TV: The Visitation)

However, the Doctor's boyish appearance, nervous energy, and charm all hid the fact that he was a Time Lord of great power and knowledge. (TV: Snakedance, Mawdryn Undead, Enlightenment) He was not without an ego, happily saying when he was good at a subject after someone admitted they were not, (TV: Four to Doomsday) and being overly confident when he knew how good he was at something. (TV: The Visitation) He would put on a false smile to lure his opponents into underestimating him until he could think his way out of a situation, (TV: Four to Doomsday) and was not afraid to antagonise his enemies as an act of defiance, (TV: Earthshock, The Caves of Androzani) and declare his intent to interfere in their plans. (TV: Arc of Infinity)

Originally, the Fifth Doctor acted like a child excited to see new discoveries and foreign places. (TV: Four to Doomsday, Kinda) However, after the death of Adric, (TV: Earthshock) he acted more openly stressed out and passive to harsh developments. (TV: Arc of Infinity, Snakedance, Terminus) As he was more exposed to the growing violence he encountered in his travels, the Doctor became more malaise to the carnage he saw throughout the universe, (TV: Warriors of the Deep, Frontios, Resurrection of the Daleks, The Caves of Androzani) to the point that he alienated Tegan from the TARDIS. (TV: Resurrection of the Daleks) The sudden betrayals he also endured (TV: Arc of Infinity, The Five Doctors) caused the Doctor to develop trust issues, to the point that he threatened to cut ties with Turlough if he dared to deceive him. (TV: Planet of Fire)

No longer trying to be "old and grumpy and important" like his previous incarnations, (TV: Time Crash) though worried his youthful body would not be taken seriously, (AUDIO: Smoke and Mirrors) the Fifth Doctor was very open and vulnerable in his naivety, trying to focus on seeing the friendlier side of the universe by giving aliens the benefit of the doubt towards their intentions, opting to "look on the bright side" when things looked grim. (TV: Four to Doomsday, The Visitation, Warriors of the Deep) He gained trust by proving himself with his honesty instead of using his vast experience as an excuse to take charge. (TV: Black Orchid, Snakedance, The King's Demons, Warriors of the Deep) Indeed, he could easily fall into the thrall of those who had the strong command presence that he lacked. (TV: Earthshock, The Five Doctors, The Caves of Androzani) However, he would take charge in moments of intensity, (TV: Kinda, Frontios, Resurrection of the Daleks) and, while he needed a piece of the Great Crystal to face down the Mara, (TV: Snakedance) the Doctor could still call upon great willpower when the need arose. (TV: The King's Demons, Planet of Fire)

Being highly curious and eager to learn and explore, the Fifth Doctor would often let his curiosity dictate his decision making, leaving him to being easily distracted and getting caught up in his own thoughts and musings, to the point where he got himself and others into trouble simply by not paying enough attention to his surroundings, even when he knew that such a mind-set was one of his flaws. (TV: Black Orchid, The Caves of Androzani)

Unlike his other incarnations, he would seek out the highest authority when he landed so as to make his case for cooperation, (TV: Warriors of the Deep) though his trouble with being assertive would often lead to him running afoul with local authorities and being arrested or imprisoned. (TV: Kinda, Black Orchid, Snakedance, The Caves of Androzani) He would particularly earn the ire of authoritative figures when his actions were mistaken for tomfoolery or treachery. (TV: Earthshock, The King's Demons)

His young appearance was reflected in the youthfulness of his companions, whom he treated akin to how a teacher would treat their schoolchildren, to the point of patronising them, (TV: Four to Doomsday, Snakedance, The Caves of Androzani) and would scold them severely when their failure to heed his instructions resulted in him being put at a disadvantage. (TV: Enlightenment)

He could also lose his temper when around someone who annoyed him, (TV: Time Crash) and was known to get impatient when pressed for time. (TV: Castrovalva, The Visitation, Arc of Infinity, Frontios) He was unafraid to point out how others were complicating matters with their pride (TV: Black Orchid, Earthshock) or apparent idiocy, (TV: Four to Doomsday, Mawdryn Undead, Time Crash) and would become particularly irked when he was being put to death as a scapegoat for others to avoid dealing with their problems when there were alternative solutions. (TV: Arc of Infinity, Frontios, The Caves of Androzani)

He was notably for his use of sarcasm, especially when simultaneously dealing with Tegan and Adric, (TV: The Visitation) and was proficient with puns. (TV: Four to Doomsday, Enlightenment, The Caves of Androzani) He also felt suited for settling down and starting a family. (AUDIO: Loups-Garoux, No Place Like Home, Winter)

After finding a cricket bat and discovering a room in his TARDIS dedicated to the sport shortly after his regeneration, the Fifth Doctor became a vivid fan of cricket, (TV: Castrovalva) often spending long periods of time playing the game, (TV: Black Orchid; PROSE: Happy Endings, Goth Opera; AUDIO: Autumn) attending several famous matches, (AUDIO: The Roof of the World, Nekromanteia, The Emerald Tiger; PROSE: Graham Dilley Saves the World) and teaching his companions the rules of the game. (AUDIO: Phantasmagoria)

He also liked "long walks", (TV: The Visitation) and tea, (TV: The Awakening) believing it to be one of the things about the universe he loved. (AUDIO: Omega) He took his tea with either two sugars (AUDIO: The Eternal Summer) or with milk and no sugar. (AUDIO: The Elite) He also liked having live audience participation in large shows. (AUDIO: Nekromanteia)

His drink of choice was lemonade with ice, (TV: Black Orchid) and he also liked jam, (AUDIO: Plague of the Daleks) kippers, and porridge. (PROSE: Empire of Death) He considered fresh chilled orange juice to be "one of the finest things about Earth". (PROSE: Fascination) He felt a genuine sense of awe while in Cairo, (PROSE: Never Seen Cairo) and though of Vortis as somewhere he could relax. (AUDIO: Return to the Web Planet)

He did not like earrings, (TV: Four to Doomsday) disliked being referred to as "sweet", (AUDIO: The Entropy Composition) had a disdain for cats, (AUDIO: No Place Like Home) felt uncomfortable around spiders, (PROSE: Light at the End of the Tunnel) and, with the exception of Susan, rarely thought about his family. (AUDIO: No Place Like Home) He also disliked slavery. (PROSE: Tip of the Tongue)

The Doctor thought that it was best to "learn by [his] mistakes", (TV: The Awakening) and looked for "possibilities" that he "[could] never imagine", as he wanted to know how they worked and help them to work better. (AUDIO: Loups-Garoux) While he preferred to take risks alone, he conceded that "a risk shared [was] a risk doubled". (TV: Frontios)

While his feelings were hurt when Adric called him "decidedly immature" when in comparison to his fourth incarnation, (TV: Earthshock) the Fifth Doctor showed off an immature and childish side when he went to great lengths to avoid doing something he personally did not want to do, coming up with every excuse he could to prevent himself from being forced into action. (TV: Earthshock, The Five Doctors) When Tegan voiced her unease with traveling with Kamelion, the Doctor pranked her by pretending to take her reluctance as a sign she didn't want to travel with him anymore, and even acted like he was going to return her home when he had instead set course for the Eye of Orion, just to tease her. (TV: The King's Demons)

Unwilling to accept that violence was "a universal way of life", (TV: Resurrection of the Daleks) the Fifth Doctor was disdainful towards needless deaths, (COMIC: In Their Nature) and tried his best to avoid using violence when "there [could] [be] another way", (TV: Warriors of the Deep, The Awakening) not even tolerating violence when it was being used to rescue him. (TV: Arc of Infinity) He was particularly furious when Peter Sandoz shot Miss Tremayne when she was threatening him with a knife, believing he could have talked her down. (AUDIO: Winter for the Adept)

However, he did possess a dark side, gunning down foes when he deemed it necessary, (TV: Earthshock, Arc of Infinity, Warriors of the Deep, Resurrection of the Daleks) and not moving to save the Tremas Master from a fiery death, though was deeply upset by his part in it. (TV: Planet of Fire) He was also willing to physically slap someone to calm them down, as with Maxwell Edison, (COMIC: Stars Fell on Stockbridge) and accepted a pistol from King Louis, but only so he would not contradict the king. (AUDIO: The Church and the Crown)

While he failed to execute Davros in cold blood, (TV: Resurrection of the Daleks) he did destroy Kamelion at the android's request. (TV: Planet of Fire) He also once shot the Master non-fatally in the chest to subdue him. (PROSE: A Town Called Eternity)

The Fifth Doctor identified himself as being open-minded, likening himself to Alice as he "[tried] to believe three impossible things before breakfast". As such, he was willing to give his enemies the benefit of the doubt, such as when he met the Tremas Master in the Death Zone on Gallifrey, and was willing to hear him out when the Master said he had come to aid the Doctor. When the High Council confirmed the Master's story, the Doctor admitted that he had done the Master an injustice by doubting him. (TV: The Five Doctors) He also tried to find a positive approach to life, even if it was a delusional one, (AUDIO: Iterations of I) such as fixating on the idea that Mondas was 1950s Trafalgar Square, wilfully ignoring the mine carts and giant underground cavern overhead. (AUDIO: Spare Parts) When he and Nyssa were arrested for using future currency during the Jacobin era, the Doctor tried to console Nyssa by pointing out that they still used Earth-based coins. (AUDIO: Summer)

The Fifth Doctor somewhat looked down on humanity for being "parochial", and "fly[ing] off the handle" when they did not get their wishes, (TV: The Visitation) and could become patronising when trying to correct someone who refused to listen to him. (TV: Snakedance) He openly questioned his fondness for the "pathetic humans" of the "miserable planet" Earth when they elected to kill "noble races" in the name of retribution. (TV: Warriors of the Deep)

He could fail to notice when his companions did not want to follow his instructions, (TV: Four to Doomsday) when they were trying to show off a new outfit to him, (TV: Snakedance, Enlightenment) or were not enjoying themselves in their adventures as much as he was. (TV: Resurrection of the Daleks)

The Fifth Doctor though his third incarnation was the "dandiest dandelion", while the Third Doctor criticised his fifth incarnation for "wearing [a] salad". (WC: Doctors Assemble!)

Immediately after his regeneration, the Sixth Doctor told Peri Brown that his predecessor had "a sort of feckless charm [that] simply wasn't [him]", (TV: The Twin Dilemma) but later admitted to Evelyn Smythe that "being him was like a holiday", adding that it was "a very wonderful holiday". (AUDIO: The 100 Days of the Doctor)

The Seventh Doctor described the Fifth Doctor as "bland" and "not even one of the good ones", while the Fifth Doctor was repulsed by his seventh incarnation's manipulative nature. (PROSE: Cold Fusion) However, despite the animosity between the two, in the Seventh Doctor's subconscious, the Fifth Doctor personified his conscience due to his strong sense of compassion. (PROSE: Timewyrm: Revelation) The Eighth Doctor was fonder of his fifth incarnation than his two immediate predecessors, describing him as "terribly polite." (AUDIO: The Four Doctors)

The Tenth Doctor expressed a fondness for his fifth incarnation, seeing him as a turning point and stating that it was after his fourth regeneration when he began to enjoy his time in younger bodies. He also confessed that certain aspects of his wardrobe and personality were influenced by the Fifth Doctor. (TV: Time Crash)

When the Eleventh Doctor contacted the Fifth Doctor through an Ovid sphere in England in the 1920s, he commented that his fifth incarnation was "grumpy" and "frowny" in part because he worried about being taken seriously due to his youthful appearance. (AUDIO: Smoke and Mirrors)

The Doctor was highly protective of his TARDIS, becoming particularly irritated when he thought Nyssa had been tampering with it, (TV: Time-Flight) and frustrated when he thought the Tenth Doctor had changed his console control room design. (TV: Time Crash)

Although they often argued with each other, the Doctor told Lady Adela Forster that Tegan Jovanka was "very dear" to him, (AUDIO: The Emerald Tiger) and also told Tegan that he "[couldn't] bear the thought of not having [her] around", (PROSE: Qualia) though he would often hide from her in the TARDIS' Cloister Room. (AUDIO: No Place Like Home) Tegan claimed that the Doctor often gave her "half pained [and] half patronising" looks. (AUDIO: Aquitaine)

The Fifth Doctor believed the Master to be "the most evil force in the universe". (TV: Castrovalva)

He viewed his fourth incarnation's hesitation at averting the creation of the Daleks to have been "a mistake". However, while he did not hesitate to destroy Daleks, he was unable to bring himself to kill Davros with a gun to his face, ultimately giving Davros time to escape. (TV: Resurrection of the Daleks)

Two days after he recovered from his post-regeneration trauma, Tegan described the Fifth Doctor as "an incompetent lunatic who talks gibberish", and Adric saw him as a "feckless, frivolous dilettante" who was an inferior replacement to the Fourth Doctor. (AUDIO: Psychodrome) At a later date, Tegan described him as "the most annoying man that [she had] ever met". (AUDIO: Aquitaine) On one occasion, she derisively referred to the Doctor as a "posho". (AUDIO: The Peterloo Massacre)

Roz Forrester did not trust the Fifth Doctor, as she believed the fact that he seemed so trustworthy was suspicious. (PROSE: Cold Fusion) River Song noted the Fifth Doctor's "sweet, but strangely short-tempered," personality, as well as his obsession with the Eye of Orion. (GAME: The Eternity Clock) When the Eighth Doctor had a tarot card reading, the Fifth Doctor was identified as "the Star". (PROSE: The City of the Dead)

The "Tremas" Master believed that the Fifth Doctor was "the nice one [with] such charm, innocence, [and] naiveté", (GAME: Destiny of the Doctors) while the "Reborn" Master described him as "the drippy blonde one" who "wander[ed] around like nobody's ever played cricket ever". (AUDIO: The Two Masters) Helen referred to him as "the compassionate". (AUDIO: The Sirens of Time)

After he and Peri became infected with spectrox toxaemia, the Doctor became determined to save Peri from dying of the poison; stealing a spaceship, outrunning armed mercenaries, climbing deep into a cave with little oxygen and back, and finally carrying Peri to the TARDIS while in the paralysis stage of the poisoning, (TV: The Caves of Androzani) all while holding back the regenerative process. (AUDIO: Winter) When in the safety of the TARDIS, the Doctor gave Peri all that remained of the antidote, saving her life at the cost of his own. (TV: The Caves of Androzani)

Habits and quirks

The Doctor wearing his "brainy specs". (TV: Frontios)

When needing to examine something, the Fifth Doctor would sometimes sport a pair of glasses. (TV: Castrovalva, Kinda, Frontios, Planet of Fire, Time Crash) While he claimed to need them due to a weakness in his right eye, (TV: Four to Doomsday) the Tenth Doctor confessed that these "brainy specs" only served to make his fifth incarnation look "a bit clever". (TV: Time Crash)

When not instructing people to follow him with an utterance of "come on", (TV: Four to Doomsday, The King's Demons, The Five Doctors, Resurrection of the Daleks) the Fifth Doctor would instead instruct someone to follow his lead by saying, "this way". (TV: Arc of Infinity, Snakedance, Terminus, Warriors of the Deep)

To encourage others, the Doctor would tell them to have a "brave heart", especially with Tegan. (TV: Earthshock, Enlightenment, Warriors of the Deep, The Awakening) He was also known to say, "Sorry, must dash", especially when leaving in a hurry. (TV: Castrovalva, The Five Doctors)

When met with disappointment or adversity, he would utter a defeated, "oh, no". (TV: The Visitation, Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, Planet of Fire, Time Crash)

During his early days, the Fifth Doctor's voice was prone to becoming high pitched in moments of intensity, (TV: Castrovalva, Four to Doomsday, The Visitation, Earthshock) something that the Tenth Doctor found comradery in. (TV: Time Crash)

As rather stagnant incarnation, the Fifth Doctor would usually alternate between having his hands crossed behind his back or in his trouser pockets while flicking the long tails on his coat back, with it being extremely rare for him to go an entire adventure without doing either. (TV: Terminus) He was also known to occasionally place his hands in his coat pockets instead. (TV: Kinda, The Visitation, Earthshock, The Caves of Androzani)

In a deviation from his stagnant posture, the Doctor would wring his hands together in a fidgety manner. (TV: Earthshock, Time-Flight, Arc of Infinity, Snakedance, Enlightenment, The Five Doctors, Warriors of the Deep, The Awakening, Frontios, Resurrection of the Daleks, The Caves of Androzani) However, he would interlock his fingers when sitting or crouching down, (TV: Four to Doomsday, Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, The Awakening, The Caves of Androzani) or when he was in thought. (TV: Arc of Infinity)

He crossed his arms when sulking (TV: Kinda, The Visitation, Earthshock ) or on the defensive, (TV: Terminus, The Awakening) and was prone to dramatic turns, which usually caused his hair to sway wildly. (TV: Castrovalva, Kinda, The Visitation, Time-Flight, Snakedance, Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, Enlightenment, The Five Doctors, Warriors of the Deep, The Awakening, Frontios, Resurrection of the Daleks)

When in a stressful situation, he would scratch the back of his head as he worked on how to deal with the crisis, (TV: Arc of Infinity, Enlightenment, Warriors of the Deep) and would chew on the digits of his hand when thinking. (TV: Castrovalva, Four to Doomsday, Kinda, Mawdryn Undead, The Awakening)

When gobsmacked, he had a tendency to stare with a slack-jawed look on his face, (TV: Kinda, Earthshock, Snakedance, Enlightenment, Warriors of the Deep) and would spread out his arms and look upwards to emphasis a point. (TV: Castrovalva, Earthshock, Snakedance)

The Fifth Doctor often delegated some decisions to the simple chance of a coin. (TV: Kinda, Time-Flight, Enlightenment, The Awakening)

He typically introduced himself with the greeting, "How do you do?".[source needed]

Skills

The Doctor plays cricket. (COMIC: Time & Time Again)

While he preferred to use trickery to solve a problem, (TV: Frontios) the Fifth Doctor was still very capable of defending himself unarmed when pushed to physical confrontations. (TV: Kinda, The Visitation, Terminus, Warriors of the Deep) He retained the swordsmanship acumen of his predecessors, being able to best the Tremas Master in a duel, (TV: The King's Demons) and was also highly skilled at the sport of cricket, (TV: Black Orchid) being a "strong right arm bowler ". (AUDIO: The Council of Nicaea)

He was a proficient shot with a gun, even stating that he "never miss[ed]" his targets, (TV: The Visitation, Terminus, Resurrection of the Daleks) and also had the accuracy to throw a chair to jam a door, (TV: Terminus) as well as being an expert marksman with a bow. (PROSE: The Immortals; AUDIO: Son of the Dragon)

After learning how to, (COMIC: 4-Dimensional Vistas) the Doctor was able to swim out of danger, even while dazed, and was capable of holding his breath for a long period of time. (TV: Warriors of the Deep)

The Doctor could perform hypnotism, (PROSE: Empire of Death) and was able to make limited telepathic contact with the Xaranti. (PROSE: Deep Blue) He claimed to have "superior psychic defences", (AUDIO: Rat Trap) and believed himself to be immune to hypnotism. (AUDIO: The Butcher of Brisbane)

He could perform basic surgery, even with limited equipment. (TV: Frontios)

The Doctor could determine the properties of something by taste alone. (TV: Castrovalva, The Visitation, Planet of Fire)

He could play the harp. (TV: The Five Doctors)

The Doctor was capable of driving a chariot, (AUDIO: The Eye of the Scorpion) and could ride a horse. (AUDIO: The Church and the Crown)

The Doctor had a "gift for languages", (PROSE: Fear of the Dark) and could speak to a Croatian in his native language. (AUDIO: Autumn) He could also speak Greek. (AUDIO: Exotron)

The Doctor often showed keen observational and deductive skills, quickly solving the mystery of the murder of Sinead Iona Fleming on Fleming's Island fifty years after the crime, (AUDIO: Iterations of I) and managing to piece together the true nature of the Vrall from a few scattered clues relating to the anomalous behaviour of the translation circuit. (PROSE: Imperial Moon)

He learned how to perform coin magic from Adric, (TV: Kinda) He could repair an android, (TV: The Caves of Androzani) could recall and quote from scripture, (AUDIO: The Council of Nicaea) and carried a Molenski Univarius that he claimed could fix anything. (AUDIO: The Axis of Insanity)

Appearance

The Doctor wearing his hat. (TV: Black Orchid)

The Fifth Doctor was a young man. (TV: Logopolis) Peri Brown described him as having "fair blonde hair, blue eyes, and a sweet smile". (AUDIO: Peri and the Piscon Paradox)

In an encounter with the Tenth Doctor, the Fifth Doctor appeared noticeably older as a result of the time differential being shorted out, with the future Doctor observing that his face was "saggier", his hair was "greyer", and suggesting that he had put on weight. The Tenth Doctor acknowledged that his younger self would return to normal once returned to his own time, quipping that he would be able to close his coat again. (TV: Time Crash) After the end of his life, the Fifth Doctor also had an older appearance as one of the Guardians of the Edge, and when his image was adopted by the Thirteenth Doctor's AI hologram, which was remarked upon by Tegan Jovanka. (TV: The Power of the Doctor)

While he initially thought his new face represented "the trouble with [the unpredictability of] regeneration", the Fifth Doctor soon thought himself to be "absolutely splendid". (TV: Castrovalva)

Rose Tyler considered the Fifth Doctor to be a "rather hot blond man" when Clive Finch showed her his picture. (PROSE: Rose)

The Second Doctor playfully called his fifth incarnation "a youngster". (COMIC: Endgame)

When Affinity took on the Fifth Doctor's appearance to approach the Twelfth Doctor, he noted that the fifth incarnation was a "young fair-haired man in a pale coat and light striped trousers." (PROSE: Silhouette)

Hair and grooming

As a side-effect of his regeneration, the Fifth Doctor's hair regularly changed length and colour. (PROSE: Cold Fusion) It was brown shortly after his regeneration, (TV: Logopolis) then quickly became platinum blonde. (TV: Castrovalva) On occasion, his hair had brown highlights (TV: Four to Doomsday)

His hair typically reached to the back of his neck. (TV: Castrovalva) While it was originally poofy with a long fringe, (TV: Logopolis) it quickly changed into a wavier style, (TV: Castrovalva) though his fringe was later shown as shorter and his hairstyle kept straight. (TV: Four to Doomsday)

Once, to make himself appear older, the Doctor grew a beard while he was stranded in 1867 London that helped him fit in with the scientific community. (AUDIO: The Haunting of Thomas Brewster) He grew a beard again when he was forced to escape a prison through a time field that caused him to age a relative year while spending only a few minutes in it from an outside perspective. (AUDIO: Doing Time)

Clothing

Main attires

The Doctor plays cricket. (COMIC: The Tides of Time)

The Fifth Doctor's first outfit featured a beige frock coat with scarlet piping along the collar, lapels, sleeves, pockets and tails. Underneath his coat, the Doctor wore a cream cricket jumper with a crimson and black V-Neck pattern, and a white dress shirt with a red interior and embroidered cherry question marks on the collars. His trousers were a unique pattern of brown and beige stripes. He also wore white plimsolls and an ivory Panama hat that had a scarlet band with a black and white pattern. (TV: Castrovalva)

After his clothes were ruined by a Xaranti, (PROSE: Deep Blue) the Doctor changed to a French grey coat with a longer collar, a dress shirt with a green interior, trousers with thick orange lines, and a jumper with a pattern of thick red and black lines on the bottom, the V-Neck and sleeves. (TV: The Awakening) He sometimes wore suspenders adorned with question marks and, on one occasion, replaced his jumper with a beige coloured waistcoat that had a gold, white and red flora & fauna pattern. (TV: Planet of Fire)

He wore a stick of artificial celery on his left lapel (TV: Castrovalva, Enlightenment) to alert him to his allergy to gases in the praxis range of the spectrum, as the celery would turn purple in their presence. (TV: The Caves of Androzani) Ironically, the Doctor himself hated celery. (AUDIO: The Gathering)

Other costumes

The Fifth Doctor slept in white pyjamas, with tiny question mark motifs sewn on to them. (PROSE: Divided Loyalties)

When his first incarnation was placed on trial in 1963 London as a result of killing a werewolf with a silver bullet, the Fifth Doctor dressed in an ill-fitting grey suit. (PROSE: The Juror's Story)

While in Cairo, the Doctor wore khaki trousers and an off-white shirt. (PROSE: Never Seen Cairo)

Whilst on Karn with Peri, the Doctor donned a fur coat and boots, and also wore a black dress suit. As "the Supremo", he wore a black military uniform. (PROSE: Warmonger)

Whilst on the Crystal Bucephalus, he wore a puffy shirt and a blue cloak. (PROSE: The Crystal Bucephalus)

Behind the scenes

Casting

After the popular fourth incarnation, it was decided that the next incarnation should be played by an actor who was already firmly established in the British public's mind. Peter Davison was chosen, due in no small part to his popular and critically acclaimed role as Tristan Farnon in All Creatures Great and Small, a BBC series based on the books of James Herriot.

Richard Griffiths was considered for the role before Peter Davison was cast, as was Iain Cuthbertson.[1]

The age gap

Only 29 when cast, he remained "the youngest Doctor" until the 2009 hiring of 26-year-old Matt Smith. He was some eleven years younger than Tom Baker, the previous record holder, seven years younger than Paul McGann, and five years younger than future son-in-law, David Tennant. He was later recast as the Fifth Doctor in Time Crash in 2007, at which time he was 56, a year older than William Hartnell was during the filming of An Unearthly Child.

Bad hair years

To a degree never seen with any other regular character before or since, the Fifth Doctor was at the heart of a running continuity error. No make-up artist seemed to particularly care about the length of Davison's hair throughout season 19, despite the fact that it was known that serials were being recorded out of broadcast order.

Davison, a busy actor with other commitments, had his hair cut short at the beginning of Doctor Who's production blocks, because other projects like All Creatures Great and Small required it. For reasons unclear, he was then allowed to grow his hair several inches while filming as the Fifth Doctor. However, since the episodes aired out of order, his hair length quite obviously varied.

Were it not for the fact that most serials of season 19 narratively dovetailed into each other, it might be possible to simply believe that the character simply liked to go to the barber shop between stories. Unfortunately for this theory, Four to Doomsday was narratively tied to the beginning of Kinda, so the jarring hair growth can only be regarded as a production error.

Davison cut his hair prior to each season, and the production team allowed him to grow it throughout each of his production blocks. However, Snakedance was the final story of his tenure broadcast out of production order, and Arc of Infinity didn't obviously lead into it. Thus, although Davison was again allowed to grow his hair throughout the production of seasons 20 and 21, it never amounted to the kind of production error it was throughout season 19.

It's frequently remarked by Davison on DVD commentaries that real fans can tell the production order of episodes by the length of the Fifth Doctor's hair.

Brainy specs

In several DVD commentaries, Peter Davison claims he abandoned his half-moon glasses because Janet Fielding teased him when he used them. Fielding seemed to agree with this assessment on the commentary for Earthshock.

Celery

Davison agreed to wear a stick of celery on his lapel on the understanding that JNT would eventually have a writer explain the bizarre fashion statement. Though Davison thought the explanation would come earlier, the mystery was at last revealed in his final story. (DCOM: The Caves of Androzani) Ironically, Davison hated celery. When he was required to eat celery during the recording of Castrovalva, he found it deeply unpleasant. (DCOM: Castrovalva)
